Your browser does not support iframes.

A group of four San Francisco Giants fans came to AT&T Park for Monday night's game dressed in pea pod outfits to support the "Killer P's": Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, Hunter Pence and Angel Pagan.

The names and numbers of the players sewn into the back of the costumes, and one of them held a "Killer P's" sign with the faces of the four players.

The "Killer P" fans must have went home really happy as all of the players performed well. Posey, Sandoval and Pagan all went 2 for 5, while Pence went 1 for 3 with 2 walks, in an 8-0 Giants victory over the Washington Nationals.

Ryan Vogelsong injury: Vogey leaves game after five strong innings with hand injury

In what had been his best start of the 2013 season, Ryan Vogelsong was injured during an at-bat in Monday’s game against the Nationals. On a poorly timed swing, a pitch from Craig Stammen appeared to deflect off of Vogey’s right hand. Bochy and trainer Dave Groeschner came out to take a look at the hand before immediately escorting the right-hander into the dugout.
Vogelsong was pitching his best game of the season, cruising through five innings without allowing a run. He walked just one batter on top of three hits, stranding two runners each in the third and fifth innings. The Giants No. 5 starter entered the game with an ERA of 8.06, but lowered that almost a full run with his five shutout innings.
Vogelsong received a standing ovation from a sympathetic and intelligent crowd. No word yet on how the Peas reacted.
Danny and I will be around for Bochy’s press conference after the game, where the injury will be the number one question for the skipper. Follow us on Twitter @GiantsPod ...

Barry Zito Struggles Again in Loss to Rockies

Barry Zito turned in his second straight poor performance for the San Francisco Giants, this time a 5-0 loss to the Colorado Rockies. Zito allowed five runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walked two.
After a 1-5 road trip Giants manager Bruce Bochy may be ready to make some changes.
“We’re going to make some adjustments,” he said. “It’s a great starting rotation and has done some remarkable things for us, but at the same time, it’s a new year.
The Giants starting rotation pitched to 9.82 ERA on the trip.
“It’s up to us to get home and start playing better ball,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “Overall we just had a horrible trip.”
Zito made two starts on the road trip allowing 23 hits in 11 1/3 innings of work. The performance mirrored his outing against Toronto on Tuesday, when he allowed eight runs, five earned in 5 2/3 innings.
Offensively the Giants could only muster five hits against Colorado starter Juan Nicasio and the Rockies bullpen.

Errors, Pitching Continue to Doom the San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants committed three more errors Saturday, bringing their total to 13 errors over their past six games.
This time, the errors did not result in any unearned runs to blame the loss on, that designation goes straight to the poor pitching of Tim Lincecum. The former Cy-Young winner surrendered six runs on seven hits and a pair of walks in five innings of work.
The loss dropped Lincecum’s record to 3-3 on the season and raised his ERA to 4.70.
Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford and Lincecum himself combined for the three errors in the game. Not to mention a mental error by Lincecum that resulted in a balk and a Rockies’ run, that error doesn’t show in the E column. Well, technically Lincecum slipped while throwing the ball and that resulted in the balk, so perhaps the righty deserves a break on that misplay.
“Nine errors in four games, 13 in 10 games, that’s too much,” Bochy said before the game Saturday, in which the Giants increased those totals to 12 in five games, an...

Video: Tim Lincecum slips off mound while trying to deliver pitch

Your browser does not support iframes.San Francisco Giants hurler Tim Lincecum took quite the tumble on this play from Saturday.Watch as the right-hander slips off the mound while trying to deliver a pitch in the fourth inning at Coors Field against rival Colorado. As you can see, Lincecum seems to lose his footing on the rubber and subsequently proceeds to go down hard on his backside. The miscue results in one of the more amusing balks you are likely to lay eyes on.Lincecum has taken a fall from grace (pardon the pun) over the past few seasons. The 28-year-old is coming off a 2012 campaign in which he posted a 10-15 record and an astronomical 5.18 ERA. He is sporting a 4.70 ERA this season through nine starts. Suddenly, those back-to-back Cy Young Awards he won in 2008 and 2009 seem so long ago.

Giants minor league coach Victor Torres dies

The San Francisco Giants say former minor league coach Victor Torres has died. He was 61.

Torres, a hitting coach and instructor in the club's player development department the past six years, died Wednesday in Florida, the team said Friday. No other details were provided.

The Giants said Torres would be deeply missed. General manager Brian Sabean says ''Victor was a tremendous person who proved to be a great asset to the organization with his ability to communicate and mentor our young hitters.''

Most recently, Torres was hitting coach for the rookie Arizona Giants in 2012, a position he held for five seasons beginning in 2007. Torres had been in professional baseball since 1994 and previously ran his own baseball academy in Puerto Rico and Florida from 1973-1989.

SF Giants Rumors: Magical Comeback, Pence The Magician, And Team Leaders

Last night was a good night if you’re a San Francisco Giants fan, but a sad night for the rest of the Bay Area (Warriors/Sharks). The night started just like it did in Toronto, the Giants found themselves in a deep hole. However, this night ended much differently. They found a way to erase a 6-run deficit to beat the Rockies. This is the Giants 10th straight win over the Rockies.

If you thought it was a magical comeback, you could be right! Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com reports (via Twitter) Brandon Belt said Hunter Pence started yelling “synergy, synergy,” in the dugout before the 5-run inning. “He’s like a magician,” Belt said.

Jeremy Affeldt returned $500K to SF Giants after noticing an error in his contract

It's seems pretty tough to find a role model in sports these days but, if you look in the dictionary under honesty, Jeremy Affeldt may just fit the description.

In 2010, the relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants says he was overpaid by $500,000 thanks to a contract error that wrongly awarded him more than the $10 million previously agreed upon. The mistake was signed off by both him and his team before the typing error was discovered.

When Affeldt realized the unintended bonus, he says he returned the extra money and asked that his contract be rewritten.

The 33-year-old Affeldt, who describes himself as an avid Christian and father, details the six-digit mistake in his new book, To Stir a Movement.

He claims that the Players Association, his agent Michael Moye as well as Giants assistant general manager Bobby Evans all approved of him keeping the $500,000 after he brought it to their attention.

Affeldt, who has been in the major leagues since 2002, recalled his agen

SF Giants Rumors: Vogelsong, Gaudin, Sabean, Wilson and Lineup

If you’re looking for some good San Francisco Giants talk. You should follow Marty Lurie. Today he sent out a tweet to get fans baseball juices flowing. Lurie said (via Twitter) it’s time to pull Ryan Vogelsong from the rotation. “He is killing the ‘pen & the affect on the rest of the staff is not worth another start.”
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle snowballs on top of that topic, and says (via Twitter) he doesn’t see any savior from the minors. If Vogelsong is skipped, Chad Gaudin will likely get the ball.
Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com says GM Brian Sabean told him that he’s heard Brian Wilson will showcase himself over the All-Star break or thereabouts. Sabean doesn’t know how Wilson is throwing, but does know that he’s working out like a fiend.

He has that attitude in the way he goes about his business. He’s professional, came from a decent family, and a good school at St. John’s.”
That kind of summation of a player sounds like something Trent Baalke would say after another successful NFL Draft. Like the 49ers, the San Francisco Giants seem drawn to high character players who come from good families and take their opportunity to make a living as a professional athlete seriously.
Of course, this doesn’t always translate to success. In Posey’s case, it most certainly did. To make such a favorable comparison when discussing Joe Panik‘s approach to the game suggests that the Giants drafted a player who is ready to take the next step and understands the work necessary to excel at each level.
Twenty-two year-old Panik was drafted with the 29th pick of the 1s...

SF Giants Rumors: Melky Cabrera, It Wasn’t Muscle Melk

The San Francisco Giants finished a 7-3 homestand, and then were off to see Melky Cabrera and the Jays in Toronto. Manager Bruce Bochy presented Cabrera with his World Series ring in a private setting. Bochy said Melky wanted it that way, and Melky says Bochy wanted it that way. I think it’s safe to say that Melky didn’t want the presentation to be public with the way he left the team last year.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle say (via Twitter) Melky didn’t address his Giants teammates when he was suspended because “somebody” said it would be a bad idea. However, Melky refused to say who the “somebody” was.

Melky isn’t putting up the kind of numbers he was last year for the Giants thus far. However, he did light the Giants up for four hits in last night’s game. To make matters worse, the Giants also lost the game 10-6.

Affeldt gave back $500K to Giants

Photo Credit: sfexaminer.com/AP.twx2{position:absolute;clip:rect(455px,auto,auto,496px);}additional info We’ve all been in this situation before: you’re at the grocery store, and as you are leaving, you notice that the cashier handed you some extra change. You’re faced with a decision: to keep the change or not to keep the change. Usually, I decide how nice that cashier was, and let karma make the final decision. Well, the San Francisco Giants must be the equivalent of the employee of the month in baseball to Giants reliever Jeremy Affeldt, who returned $500,000 dollars to the team after noticing an error in his contract in 2010. In his book To Stir a Movement, Affledt explains how this situation came to be in 2010 between he and the Giants. The two sides had agreed on a $4 million dollar contract. However, when the contract was officially written up, the final price was written instead as $4.5 million, and both sides signed the agreement without noticing the error. Even after being told by three s

Jeremy Affeldt returned $500,000 to Giants after noticing contract error

Are you as honest as Jeremy Affeldt? In his new book, the San Francisco Giants relief pitcher says he returned $500,000 to the team after noticing a clerical error in his contract. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Henry Schulman shares what happened. According to Schulman, Affeldt writes that he was set to earn $4 million in 2010 from the team. They negotiated a two-year contract extension for 2011 and 2012, and the language was mistakenly changed to say he was going to earn $4.5 million in 2010. Both sides signed the contract without noticing the error. After Affeldt realized the error, he spoke with a few people who said he was legally entitled to the money. However, Affeldt didn’t feel right accepting the money, so he notified the team and they signed a new deal that included the correct amount. Affeldt thinks his honesty helped make negotiations smoother last winter when he and the team agreed to a 3-year, $18 million contract. I’m guessing his consecutive strong seasons in 2011...

The Belt and Pill conundrum

Brett Pill is a Giant once again.
That news may sound good to Pill fans everywhere, but it’s tough to hear for Giants first baseman Brandon Belt.
Pill has been one of the most productive prospects in the minors with his .341 batting average and team-leading nine home runs and 47 RBIs. He has only played in 32 games, but he has been oven an opportunity to spark up the debate: between Belt and Pill, who is better?
Ah, yes. That has been tossed around in my head after numerous comparisons of their Baseball Reference pages.
Pill and Belt are good examples of polar opposites. Belt spent one year in professional baseball (rookie ball through Fresno) at first base and has spent 244 games with the Giants over three seasons. Pill on the other hand has spent the last eight seasons in the minors and has only seen 63 games in the bigs.
We have seen Belt get hot (like right now after the back-to-back games with a homer), we have seen him get cold and we have also seen Pill step in and steal sign...

Vogelsong is scaring people

Welp. Ryan Vogelsong still isn't right.

It was another one of those starts on Thursday against Atlanta. You know, the one where he seems kinda okay through a few innings and then Bochy leaves him in 3 hitters too long and by that time he's given up 5 or 6 runs, and then he gets chainsaw angry, but it's too late, and we can't come back that one night?

*Big inhale after run-on sentence*

Yeah, it was another one of those starts for Vogey, who is beginning to scare people.

Forget Cain scaring people, and Lincecum doesn't surprise anyone anymore with whatever he does that day. Vogey is a huge part of this rotation, and it's hard to say whether he'll be able to recover.

I don't know whether to blame this on arm fatigue, pitching too many innings in the World Baseball Classic instead of easing into Spring Training, or whether he's just 35 years old and is having trouble locating his pitches. What I know, is that he's floating meatballs up there,...

Giants fan loses his pants grabbing baseball

.ghc3{position:absolute;clip:rect(429px,auto,auto,454px);}payday loans LENDERS ONLINE This San Francisco Giants fan lost his pants while trying to field a fair ball The San Francisco Giants were trying to stage a late 9th inning rally with two outs when Brandon Crawford hit a ball down the left field line. Now usually fans are cognizant of fair and foul balls hit down the line, but not this fan. In the process of grabbing the ball his guy lost his pants. Then realizing what he had done, he tossed the ball back onto the field of play like it never happened. To compound the Giants losing the game 6-3, this fan needless to say, got the boot for interfering with a live ball. Talk about a double whammy. Is it just me or do fans at games overreact at trying to catch a $2 baseball? We see it all the time with fans making themselves look like idiots doing whatever it takes to snag a baseball that is worth the same as the one on the rack at Dicks Sporting Goods. Check it out: H/T TheBigLead
