Ray Rice’s home burglarized, guns and cash taken

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice had his home broken into while he was out of town, reports the Associated Press.
Over the weekend, someone entering his Towson, MD home through a back window, ransacked portions of the house and made off with two guns and $2,000 cash, according to police.
Rice had a friend staying at the home, who reported the burglary to the police. It also looks like the police have a great lead on the perp – he was caught in the act on surveillance video.

Ray Rice has guns, cash stolen in home burglary

Ray Rice's job may be safe, but his house apparently is not.
The Associated Press reports that two guns and $2,000 in cash were stolen from the home of the Ravens' Pro Bowl running back over the weekend.
Police say the burglary of Rice's Reisterstow, Md. house occurred sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. Rice was out of town at the time, but a friend who was staying at the home notified police of the crime.
The burglar, who apparently was captured on surveillance video, broke in through a rear window to begin his theft.
Rice signed a $35 million contract extension -- which included $24 million in guarantees and a $15 million signing bonus -- last offseason. It's probably time he sprung for a better security system.

No, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice did not win the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, because the Preakness is a horse race, of course. However, Rice did have some fun with Photoshop and posted a picture on his Facebook account to give fans a glimpse of what the race might have looked like if he was in it.

Joe Flacco Won’t Use ‘R-Word’ Anymore, Signs Pledge to Refrain From Using Derogatory Term (Photo)

Back in January, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco used the word “retarded” to describe the idea of playing the Super Bowl in cold weather, and quickly caught flak for his slip. However, ever the progressive thinker, Flacco is making amends and striking the derogatory term from his vocabulary.
Flacco had actually apologized the day after using the word, but, according to the Special Olympics Maryland, Flacco and teammates Ed Dickson and Gino Gradkowski are going a step further and signing a pledge to refrain from using the word. Though an overlooked insult for years, over the past few years the word has been increasingly targeted as uncouth and derogatory to those with cognitive issues.
Check out a photo of Flacco, Dickson and Gradkowski signing their pledges below.

Joe Flacco Signs Pledge To Eliminate Use Of The Word ‘Retarded’

During one of the many media sessions for Super Bowl 47, Ravens star quarterback Joe Flacco caught some flak after saying that the idea of playing a Super Bowl in cold weather New York was “retarded.”
Flacco would later apologize for those remarks, and then he went on to win himself and the Ravens a Super Bowl.
Flacco and two of his Ravens teammates have now signed pledges to help eliminate use of the word completely according to the Special Olympics.

I understand why some people get upset about the term, and the use of the word. Having worked in the mental and behavioral health field for many years, I certainly know the difference.
In this day and time, retard or retarded is certainly no longer used in the clinical sense. The proper term now for someone with who is mentally challenged would be intellectua

Fantasy Football: Assessing Torrey Smith

After being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Torrey Smith wasted no time in becoming a major part of the offense. In just two seasons, he has already racked up nearly 1700 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. With those two years under his belt and a potentially increased role on the horizon, just how valuable will he be for the 2013 fantasy football season?

Although Smith did see a 15 target increase in 2012, his catch-rate dropped and he was unable to fully take advantage of the increase. Heading into 2013, Anquan Boldin, who averaged 6.8 targets a game in 2012, is no longer with the Ravens. Dennis Pitta may receive biggest boost in targets resulting from Boldin’s departure – a situation that Denny Carter went into great detail about for The Fake Football. However, at the very least, Smith should also see a small boost. Just one more target per game would raise Smith’s target total to around 125 – I detailed his potential statistics with more ...

2013 NFL Draft Team Grades: Baltimore Ravens

First Round: Matt Elam, S, Florida

ANALYSIS: Baltimore ended the first round of the draft draft on a good note, by taking one of the best players available. He also fills one of the biggest positions of need at safety, were Reed and Pollard are both gone. Elam will be a day one starter and could make a big impact early in his career. Baltimore still has a ton of work to do in this draft, but they are off to a great start.

GRADE: A

Second Round: Arthur Brown, ILB, Kansas State

This is an amazing pick. Some people had Brown listed as the top ILB in the class, and I was actually a bit surprised the Ravens passed on him in round one. I never imagined he'd fall to them in the second round. He will be starting day one in Baltimore.

GRADE: A+

Third Round: Brandon Williams, DT/NT, Missouri Southern

Williams could have gone at the end of round two, so getting him here is excellent value. He has the size to play nose tackle, but also...

The Ravens won it all last year, but this year they will field a very different team. Joe Flacco has a huge contract, which is great for him, but I think he's over paid. His completion percentage is not great and his 3rd down numbers aren't either. With Bolden gone and a new players needed to step-up on defense, what are their chances to repeat?

Nick Saban: Rolando McClain is being fair to the Baltimore Ravens

Rolando McClain’s time in the NFL and more recently the Baltimore Ravens, has not gone as planned.
McClain has retired from the NFL to get his life together after legal problems off the field have taken over the forefront of his mind.
McClain’s college coach Nick Saban told the Baltimore Sun that McClain is doing right by Baltimore by retiring at this time.

Kelechi Osemele might be more valuable than Michael Oher...

I'm starting to think that Osemele is more valuable to the Ravens' overall offensive line picture than Michael Oher...

Yes I know, that's sacriligeous talk to a lot of you... but look at the reality...

Head Coach John Harbaugh and Run Game Coordinator Juan Castillo approached second-year lineman Kelechi Osemele this past week at OTA's...

“They told me personally that my goal this season should be Pro Bowl or bust,” Osemele said. “It’s the expectation that they have for me.”

The Ravens had a Pro Bowl left guard in Ben Grubbs, but he departed via free agency to New Orleans before last season. Now Osemele has a chance to be the long-term solution.

Osemele started every game during his rookie year. He spent the entire regular season at tackle, and moved to left guard for the playoffs.

That’s when he found his niche.

A couple weeks after the Super Bowl, Osemele got a call from Castillo, who was marveling at the play...

Would Ravens Welcome Rolando McClain If He Comes Back From Retirement?

Linebacker Rolando McClain made the best decision of his life—retiring from the NFL. Why? Well, to get the circumstances in his life in order before being kicked out of the league. Photo Credit: Raiders.com At the age of 23, McClain informed the reigning Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens Wednesday that he was retiring from the game of football. No one knows the reason behind McClain’s sudden decision, but due to the issues in his life, the former standout linebacker from Alabama created a solid foundation of positioning himself to get things in order with a chance to return to the NFL as a better man. “Rolando let me know that he plans to retire from the NFL,” said Ravens’ general manager/executive vice president Ozzie Newsome, in a released statement. “We have placed him on the Reserve/Retired list.” McClain was originally a first-round selection (eighth-overall) of the Oakland Raiders in the 2010 NFL Draft. He registered 274 tackles (195 solo), 6.5 sacks (-42.5 yards), one inte...

Rolando McClain could make a comeback

According to ProFootballTalk.com, it sounds like Rolando McClain’s decision to retire is a way for him to clean up his life and possibly return to the NFL at some point if he’s successful at staying out of trouble for an extended period of time.
One source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the decision to retire was made solely by McClain, with no influence from the team. McClain, we’re told, wants to focus solely on getting himself together before continuing his football career. The Ravens have offered to be a resource for McClain during this process, a consideration that likely flows in part from McClain’s connection to Alabama, where G.M. Ozzie Newsome played college football.
I believe McClain has what it takes to be one of the best linebackers in the NFL, but he clearly has some demons he needs to wrestle with before he can continue his career.
The Ravens will continue to own McClain’s rights. So if he does come back it would likely be with them.

Baltimore Ravens Rolando McClain Retires… Or Does He?

The Baltimore Ravens have announced that 24-year-old inside line backer Rolando McClain has decided to retire. The former 8th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft has been marred by personal issues in his short career and most likely decided to save face rather than being cut. Hopefully this is the slap in the face that McClain needs to get his life together and possibly rejoin the Ravens at a later time. But if not, FFLockerRoom at least wishes him the best in life. After seeing what has happened to Titus Young the past few weeks, it definitely reminds you that these are real people playing this game.

Ravens’ Justin Tucker: I can have a perfect season on field goals

Could Justin Tucker follow in Gary Anderson and Mike Vanderjagt’s shoes by never missing a field goal during the regular season? (Credit: AP Photo/Patric Schneider) Last season, Baltimore Ravens rookie kicker Justin Tucker was a bright spot on the Super Bowl champions team. Tucker, ended the season with the sixth best field goal percentage at 90.9 percent. While making 91 percent of your field goals might be good for some kickers, for Tucker it isn’t good enough. For the 2013 season, Justin Tucker says he wants to never miss a field goal. “It’s not unrealistic to say that I can have a perfect regular season kicking field goals and extra points,” Tucker told the team’s website. “It’s just a matter of, no pun intended, putting in the leg work right now.” Tucker was also 42 for 42 on extra points during the regular season and went a perfect 4 for 4 in field goals and 16 for 16 in extra points in the Playoffs. Tucker knows if he is going to be perfect he has to keep working on his kicking. “

Report: Rolando McClain retires from the NFL

He was trying for a fresh start with the Baltimore Ravens, but former 1st round pick Rolando McClain is retiring from the NFL at the age of 23, according to BaltimoreRavens.com. The former Butkus Award-winner never lived up to the high expectations that came with him after leaving Alabama and being selected as the eighth-overall pick in 2010. While with the Raiders, McClain started in 38 of the 41 games he appeared in, racking up 175 tackles and 6.5 sacks. Along with his poor performance, McClain found trouble off-the-field. Last year, he was arrested for shooting a gun by a man’s ear. This past January, he was arrested for providing a false name and writing ‘f*ck y’all’ on a ticket he received for illegal window tint on his vehicle. The Raiders released him shortly thereafter The Ravens attempted to give him another shot, but found himself in trouble with the law once again when he was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
