Bengals' Leon Hall recovering from torn thumb ligament

Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Leon Hall will miss the beginning of OTAs due to a torn ligament in his thumb, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.

While the ailment will keep Hall out for a "bit," Hobson says that the corner is expected back at some point during OTAs. For this reason, it doesn't sound like the injury is a concern when it comes to Halls availability for training camp.

Hall was sidelined through last season's OTAs as well, but it was due to a much more severe injury; an Achilles ailment. Still, the Bengals could opt to rest Hall until mandatory minicamp begins next month considering he's cemented his status as a starter with the club.

Starting 14 games for the Bengals last season, Hall recorded 38 tackles and two interceptions -- one of which was returned for a touchdown. He also defensed 11 passes.

Bengals CB Leon Hall Out With A "Torn Thumb Ligament"

Cornerback Leon Hall won't be available when the Cincinnati Bengals begin their OTA work with their first practice on Tuesday. And in fact he may miss several offseason practices, which concludes on June 13 with the completion of the team's three-day mandatory minicamp.

Hall suffered a "torn thumb ligament" earlier this month while lifting, but he's expected to return before the completion of this year's OTA practices.

Whitworth helps out family of fallen youth football player

Jaleel Gipson, a 17-year-old high school football player from Farmerville, La., died this past Monday from injuries suffered in a spring football practice on May 9.
Bengals left tackle Andrew Whitworth and his wife Melissa, from nearby West Monroe, La., couldnt help but think of their own children when they heard the tragic news.
The Whitworths reached out to the Gipson family and have taken care of the costs of Jaleel Gipsons funeral.
The gesture was meant to be anonymous but a Gipson family member was so moved he sent out a thank you to the Whitworths and well as the rest of the community that has been generous with its time, prayers and monetary donations through his Facebook page.
I have never met this person but this tragedy has been far reaching in people hearts and this person in particular has went above and beyond in my familys mind, wrote the family member on the Facebook page entitled Larry ND Keshia Lee.

Report: Warrant Issued For Chad Johnson’s Arrest

Even if one or more teams around the league start to show sudden interest sometime over the offseason in free agent wide receiver Chad Johnson (formerly Chad Ochocinco), the odds of the three-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler continuing his NFL career may have just gotten tougher, as TMZ.com reports that Broward County, FL has issued a warrant for his arrest. Photo Via SportsofBoston.com The warrant stems from his domestic violence conviction involving ex-wife Evelyn Lozada last summer. Johnson, 35, has reportedly failed to report to his probation officer, which violates the terms of his probation. If it’s determined that he violated the terms of his probation, he could face jail time. The 6-1, 188-pound wide out has registered 766 receptions for 11,059 yards and 67 TDs in 11 NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals (2001-10) and New England Patriots (2011).
James Harrison Says He Spends More Than 500k Yearly On Massages And Body Work

NFL players’ bodies go through a lot of torture during their careers, so understandably one of the secrets to having a long successful career in the league is taking care of your body, and Bengals linebacker James Harrison says he spends big money doing just that.
Via Cincinnati.com, in a press conference at Paul Brown stadium, Harrison said he spends between 500 and 600 thousand dollars a year on professionals that keep his body in top shape.
“You want to stay in this business for awhile, you’re going to have to take care of your body. If you want to do that, you’re going to have to spend money. It’s not cheap.’’

Jayson DiManche a Bengals-Standout at Minicamp

As anyone who follows me knows, I’m a huge fan of newly-minted Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Jayson DiManche. DiManche was signed away from the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent after a courtship by the Jags that went so far as the team’s position coach speaking to DiManche all throughout the draft, and discussing future plans with him. In the end, DiManche made Jacksonville wish they had spent a draft pick to secure him. He accepted an offer instead to join the Bengals- and a hefty signing bonus. DiManche understood the value of being a Bengals linebacker, and also the fact that the team lacks pass-rush capability at the LB position.
As Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer recently pointed out, DiManche has since become a minicamp standout. Reedy suggested he has a great shot at making the 53 man roster, and that DiManche has impressed coaches as he transitions from a 3-4 defense in college to a 4-3 in Cincinnati. DiManche is on the fast track to joining last year’s...

James Harrison's expensive habit

Most professional athletes like to spend their fortune on luxury houses, extravagant cars, and the finest -- often tailor-made -- clothes.
James Harrison is a different breed.
In his introductory press conference as a member of the Bengals Tuesday, the veteran linebacker revealed that he spends between $400,000-$600,000 per year “on body work."
Basically, that's a fancy way of saying "massages," and his over-indulgence has led to an interesting nickname.
“I’ve always been what everybody’d like to call — excuse my English — is massage whore,” Harrison said, via Bengals.com. “I can’t think of nothing else. They done called me it so long I’m starting to believe it.”
The 35-year-old Harrison knows he's no young pup, so self-preservation is of the utmost importance.
“I have a hyperbaric chamber,” Harrison said. “I rent a hyperbaric chamber when I’m in Arizona. I have massages and I bring people in from New York, Arizona to where I’m at. T

Bengals LB James Harrison Motivated By Way Things Ended With Steelers

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker James Harrison, who was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers back in early March after failing to agree to a reduction in salary, held his introductory press conference with the Cincinnati media on Tuesday and admitted during it that he is motivated to play his former team this season.

No token signing, Harrison out to prove he still can play

CINCINNATI A defensive backs best friend is a good pass rush. The Bengals already have one of the best in the NFL but Leon Hall is perfectly fine with adding a little more help. Ditto for Adam Jones.

The Bengals didnt sign James Harrison as a token gesture or PR move for his name value. Both they and Harrison expect the 35-year-old linebacker to be an integral part of the Bengals making a push to become more than just a one-and-done playoff team.

Harrison arrived in Cincinnati on Monday and met with the media on Tuesday after working out with his new teammates. Harrison signed a two-year deal with the Bengals on April 23 after nine seasons with the Steelers. He helped Pittsburgh win two Super Bowls in three tries while amassing 64 sacks and 28 forced fumbles and being named All-Pro twice with five Pro Bowl appearances.

The Steelers asked Harrison to restructure his contract and take a pay cut. The two sides couldnt reach an agreement and the team released Harrison.

Tyler Eifert Lining Up All Over The Field

If you can’t beat em, join em Juan…
The Bengals struggled to find a complimentary WR to play opposite AJ Green, so when the opportunity came to draft the top TE in the 2013 draft, they passed on need and went with stud TE Tyler Eifert. By the looks of it in Mini Camp, they plan to line him up all over the formation and utilize the mismatches he will create.
“A lot of the things I’m learning are a lot of the same plays we had in with two tight ends — move me around in different positions,” Eifert said. “Today I was out in the slot quite a bit. I think I’m picking it up pretty fast.”
“I think I picked it up better than I thought I would at first,” Eifert said. “It’s not a whole lot, but it’s definitely something new for me. I’m catching on pretty quickly and moving around quite a bit.”
Dalton thinks that having two tight ends will give the Bengals a bigger advantage against defenses. Most teams are trying to follow the Patriots model and the Bengals have two very solid guys

Cincinnati Bengals Select Margus Hunt in Second Round

2.21 Cincinnati Bengals Margus Hunt, DE, SMU, (6-8,277)
The Cincinnati Bengals looked to bolster their already elite pass rush by adding Margus Hunt, a very big, very strong defensive end. He has a knack for getting in the backfield and wreaking havoc. He is 25, but the former track and field star only has four years of football under his belt to go along with his vast amount of untapped potential. Despite being very talented, he is very tall and is going to have a problem with quicker quarterbacks and running backs. He moves pretty well for his size, but he has his limitations.

Andy Dalton & A.J. Green: The Foundation Of Bengals' Success

After a solid 2011 NFL draft, netting A.J. Green and Andy Dalton the Cincinnati Bengals have been quietly achieving the results their fans have craved for years.Once regarded as the most unsuccessful team in NFL history (a title now held by Cleveland) the Bengals have been resurrected like a phoenix from the ashes. The Bengals' resurrection has been something that has been built off great drafts over a three-year span.In 2011, the Bengals acquired A.J. Green (arguably one of the NFL's best receivers) and Andy "the Amish Rifle" Dalton, who as a second round selection has shown his class as an NFL passer. The 2012 draft class brought potential shutdown corner Dre Kirkpatrick and starting offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler. Both of these players have made immediate impact upon the Bengals' recent success.During the 2013 NFL Draft, the Bengals were able to acquire some serious talent. Tyler Eifert from Notre Dame will come in and help the Bengals where they suffered fro...

Bengals sign 6th-round pick WR Cobi Hamilton

In what is called 'great value' by many, the Cincinnati Bengals have come to terms with their sixth-round selection, Arkansas receiver Cobi Hamilton. They now have three of their draft picks currently under contract.

Hamilton will look to compete with an already stocked receiving corps, including Ryan Whalen, Taveon Rogers and Brandon Tate.

Hamilton had a great 2012 season with the Razorbacks, setting season records for receptions (90) and receiving yards (1,335), as well as holding the record for the career receptions (175) and third in receiving yards (2,854).

Per Joe Reedy of Cincinnati.com: ' Hamilton has a cap number of $428,513 for this season ($405,000 base, $23,513 bonus). The cash spent for this year, which includes the full signing bonus is $499,052. Since the Bengals seem to be going in reverse in terms of signing guys, that means that RB Rex Burkhead would be the next one up. '

Bengals' Joiner putting past behind him

CINCINNATI Brandon Joiner first stepped into the Bengals locker room at Paul Brown Stadium a year ago. Every time he enters the stadium he still has a sense of awe. Its a feeling he doesnt want to go away.

The Bengals signed Joiner as an undrafted free agent last year. He was a defensive end from Arkansas State and had been named the Sun Belt Conferences Defensive Player of the Year. Joiner first walked into PBS during the teams annual three-day rookie mini-camp.

Those three days would be the only time he was in the building last year.

Joiner was released on parole from prison on Jan. 15 after serving nearly eight months of a three-year plea bargain sentence on an aggravated robbery and felony drug charge in 2007. Joiner was 18 and in his freshman year at Texas A&M at the time of the incident. He was being red-shirted from the Aggies football team during that season.

According to police records, Joiner and a former Texas A&M teammate broke into the apartment of a known drug dealer and robbed hi

2013 NFL Draft Team Grades: Cincinnati Bengals

First Round: Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame

Hmm. I never even considered Eifert to the Bengals, but I like this idea. Pairing him with Gresham could be an awesome combo for Andy Dalton. This could be a mini version of Gronk/Hernandez. I'm a bit surprised by this pick, so I'm a bit iffy on how to grade this. It doesn't fit a big need, but the value is great and he could be a difference maker for them.

GRADE: B+

Second Round: Giovani Bernard, RB, North Carolina / Margus Hunt, DE/DT, SMU

Cinci is getting criticized for taking Bernard over Lacy here, but I've always thought Bernard was a better back. I think this is a good spot for him and he will be an excellent compliment to Green-Ellis. I'm surprised that the Bengals picked up Hunt, but I still like this pick. He's raw, but has tons of talent. He will probably fit as a DE in the 4-3, but could probably be kicked inside on passing downs. Grouping him with Johnson, Dunlap, and Atkins could be a...

Cincinnati Bengals: The Hottest Draft Class Of 2013

While it seemed that the other NFL organizations were high on draft day, the Cincinnati Bengals kept their focus on the right selections. The following is the -A group of draft selections made by the Cincinnati Bengals:Tyler Eifert (Notre Dame-TE) caught 50 passes for 685 yards, can block well for the run and the pass. He is 6'5 250 lbs. and can run a 4.68 second 40 yard dash. Giovani Bernard (North Carolina-RB) Bernard rushed for over 1,200 yards, received for 490 yards, and returned 263 yards in punt returns. He will be an extra target for quarterback Andy Dalton to throw at.Shawn Williams (Georgia-SS) 6'1 217 lb. strong safety who is very good at defending the rush. While at Georgia, Williams had 98 total tackles and could assist well in coverage.Sean Porter (Texas A/M-OLB) Porter was great against the run and on pass coverage. He will be much needed against teams in the AFC Central who like to throw the ball to their tight ends.Tanner Hawkinson 6'5 300 lbs. (Kansas...
