Andy Reid sold his 5-XL shorts, Crocs and a bird house at his Philly garage sale

According to ESPN’s Shelley Smith via The Big Lead, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was able to sell some of his 5-XL shorts, Crocs and a bird house at the garage sale he organized in Philadelphia. I’m sure the person who got the 5-XL shorts is happy. I know I’ve never seen that size in a regular store. They could also sell the shorts since they’re the one’s that Reid himself sweat in during the summer months.
Chiefs announce moves within scouting department

The Kansas City Chiefs shook up their scouting department Thursday by hiring Will Lewis as director of pro scouting and Marvin Allen as the director of college scouting.

Lewis spent 13 years with the Seahawks, most recently as vice president of football operations. Allen spent the past four years as a national scout with the Falcons.

The Chiefs also hired Randy Ball to be their pro scouting assistant and Trey Koziol to serve as an area scout, and promoted Mike Borgonzi to assistant director of pro scouting, Dom Green to assistant director of college scouting, Brett Veach to pro and college personnel analyst and Ryan Poles to college coordinator.

Alex Smith already becoming leader of Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) It hasn't taken long for Alex Smith to become the leader of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The weight of the franchise was foisted upon his shoulders from the very second word leaked out that former No. 1 draft pick would be sent from the San Francisco 49ers to the Chiefs during a topsy-turvy offseason.

If he wasn't considered the leader in the huddle then, he certainly is now, as the Chiefs toil away in summer-like heat during the first full week of voluntary practices.

A quick survey of his teammates will confirm it.

"Just watching Steve Young back in the day, he's that kind of guy," wide receiver Dwayne Bowe said Wednesday. "He's not too vocal about it, but when he's in the huddle, he makes his presence known. He's demanding guys speed up - I mean, I never had a quarterback like that."

It took Smith more than five years in the NFL to adjust to the expectations that come with starting at the game's most glamorous position. But given a fresh

There aren’t enough bullets in the chamber to run the Pistol in K.C.

A couple of days ago the Kansas City Chiefs hired former Nevada coach Chris Ault to work with Andy Reid, and presumably try to install the pistol offense in Kansas City next year. On a post on a another blog I stated that I wasn’t so sure the Pistol was going to work in Kansas City just because the coach was hired that installed it at the University of Nevada, and I was more or less mocked because I made a sarcastic statement about the Pistol and its success in the NFL last year. Yes, the 49’ers and Colin Kaepernick went to the Super Bowl last year running the Pistol, and teams like Washington, Seattle and Carolina also had varying degrees of success at times last year running the Pistol. There are several differences between those teams and the Chiefs, which is why I am skeptical at best at the success the Chiefs will have running the Pistol this year. Let’s start with the quarterbacks. There is probably a good reason Colin Kaepernick had success running the Pistol last year in...

Dwayne Bowe predicts he'll lead NFL in catches and TDs; is that realistic?

The last time the Kansas City Chiefs got competent and consistent play from the quarterback position, in 2010, Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe led the league with 15 touchdown catches. So with Alex Smith coming to KC to bring some much-needed competency to the quarterback position, it wouldn't be far-fetched to imagine Bowe returning to the top of touchdown mountain in 2013. Bowe is so confident, though, that he's willing to predict that he'll lead the league in that category, as well as in receptions in general. That's what the 28-year-old former first-round pick told the media at practice Wednesday, according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star. Yes, new head coach Andy Reid has been known to run offenses that throw the ball a lot, but Bowe's never had more than 86 catches in a season. Since 2008, nobody has led the league with fewer than 115 receptions, which means he'd have to increase his high watermark by at least 33 percent in order to have ...

Kansas City Chiefs Sign Draft Pick Braden Wilson

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed 2013 NFL Draft Pick, 204th overall Braden Wilson to a four-year contract. He has a tough road ahead of him making the 53-man roster as he really contributes lead blocking and nothing else; something that is getting waned out some in the National Football League. Expect him to either latch on as a special teams player or be added to someones practice squad for the 2013 season. His size and blocking ability nearly assures that he will land somewhere if he doesn’t stick with the Chiefs.

Dwayne Bowe says he’ll lead the NFL in receptions and touchdowns in 2013

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe is one pretty confident person. He told the Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star that he’ll lead the league this season in receptions and touchdowns. He also believes in running back Jamaal Charles and said he’ll be the league leader in rushing. I think Bowe is a heck of a receiver, but I can’t imagine the Chiefs throwing the ball enough for him to lead the NFL in receptions and touchdowns. Now I know head ccoach Andy Reid favors the pass over the run, but he better be careful because Alex Smith didn’t play when everything was on his shoulders in San Francisco. During his career year in 2011 he had the least amount of pass attempts than any other quarterback in the NFL. Now I could see Charles leading the league in rushing. That’s not a crazy thought. Need NFL Tickets?
Andy Reid on linebacker Akeem Jordan: ‘He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes’

Akeem Jordan was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2007 out of James Madison University.

He spent six years with the Eagles under Andy Reid and when Reid moved on to Kansas City, Jordan was one of his first transactions.

Jordan agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in April reuniting with Reid.

He has the first crack at the inside linebacker position next to Pro-Bowler Derrick Johnson, and has a strong endorsement from his coach.

“The thing you get with Akeem is he’s a smart football player,” Reid said, via Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star.

“He hasn’t played in the 34, but he gives you the trust that he can do that. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. And he’s a phenomenal special-teams player, so you get both those things. You’re going to get a guy who doesn’t make mistakes on the field as a linebacker, and you get something special on special teams.”

Albert rejoins Chiefs as offseason workouts begin

Any question about whether Branden Albert would fit right back in with the Kansas City Chiefs was put to rest when new quarterback Alex Smith greeted his left tackle with a smile.

Albert rejoined the Chiefs on Tuesday after missing several weeks of voluntary workouts and meetings for the start of organized team activities, which run for the next three weeks.

Albert has been seeking a long-term contract, but the two sides have been far apart. So the Chiefs placed the franchise tag on Albert and he signed the tender for about $9.3 million this season, yet chose to stay away from the team.

There were even discussions with the Miami Dolphins to trade him.

Chiefs' Albert: 'I wanted to be here the whole time'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. The first thing Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith did when he saw left tackle Branden Albert arrive at the team's training facility?

Smith rushed over to greet and welcome him.

"You bet I did," Smith said with a huge smile. "Your left tackle is your best friend. You bet I welcomed him. It's great to have him here."

That Albert arrived at the team's first organized team activity (OTA) on Tuesday was big news and a relief to many, Albert included, considering the saga that had become his life in March and April.

It all started when the Chiefs appeared poised to put the franchise tag on wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, and then work on an extended deal for Albert. But the opposite scenario unfolded Bowe got the big, long-term deal, and Albert was "stuck" with the franchise tag for 9.8 million.

Then whispers started circulating that the Chiefs would use their No. 1 overall pick on a left tackle, likely Eric Fisher out of Central Michigan. And more whispers s

Now that the Kansas City Chiefs are no longer looking to trade offensive lineman Branden Albert and are now trying to sign him to a multi-year extension, he decided to show up for today’s organized team activities.
Not news but just confirming what we know: Branden Albert is at #Chiefs facility and will be at practice today
— Adam Teicher (@adamteicher) May 14, 2013

I’ve never seen a team try to trade a player then try to sign him to an extension after failing to get rid of him. I find it weird that a team would go from not wanting a player to working on signing that player to a lucrative multi-year contact. Doesn’t make sense to me. Very interesting to say the least.

Kansas City Chiefs Waive Two Including DB De’Quan Menzie

The Kansas City Chiefs have waived DB De’Quan Menzie and OL Lucas Patterson.
Of the two, Menzie was a little surprising. He graded out as the best slot corner available in the 2012 Draft by NFL Films’ Greg Cosell. He dealt with injuries his first year and eventually found himself on injured reserve. The Chiefs tried him out at safety and later moved him back to corner but De’Quan never made it to the regular season. Only 23, this former Alabama DB will probably get another opportunity soon. I wouldn’t be shocked to find out, my team the Lions, claim him off waivers.

Kansas City Chiefs 2013 Rookie Mini-Camp Recap

The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up their three-day rookie minicamp on Sunday and it was an overall good camp for the new guys. First pick Eric Fisher reportedly was as good as advertised in his first weekend in Chiefs gear and guys like QB Tyler Bray were impressive. There was plenty to learn in three days as the coaching staff threw a lot at the rookies. C Eric Kush admitted there can be a ton learned in just three days. Head coach Andy Reid hinted at the idea of keeping some of the rookie free agents since not all players can be retained for the next phase of the offseason program.
“Yeah, I think we will, but I have to get with Dorse (John Dorsey) and see,” said Reid. “But he had his guys out here, the three days, evaluating them and watching tape. He is meeting with them now, so I will see where that goes.”
Rookie free agents always seem to stand out in every offseason. There are always a few who go unnoticed and undrafted and make their way onto an NFL squad. The Chiefs hope they...

Branden Albert set to make his awkward return to Chiefs

It's been a crazy few months for left tackle Branden Albert. After a back and forth between the Chiefs and Dolphins in trade talks, he's still where he started. His major beef with the Chiefs stemmed from his belief that he'd be asked to slide over to the right once they drafted a left tackle.

But all that is water over the bridge, as the Chiefs are reportedly seeking to sign Albert long-term, and hope to get a deal done sooner than later. "You saw where we put (first-round pick) Eric Fisher at the right tackle spot," Reid told the team's official site. "We worked him in there, which was good. We had some great talks with Branden Albert, and he'll be in here on Monday. Branden will play the left side, and Eric is going to play the right side."

Per NFL.com: ' [Ian] Rapoport reported Saturday that those contract talks will ramp up once Albert arrives Monday at the team facility. Albert is seeking a contract close to the six-year, $53.4 m...

Tyler Bray Has ‘Excellent Chance’ of Making Chiefs’ Final Roster

Kansas City Chiefs undrafted rookie quarterback Tyler Bray has an “excellent chance” of making the team’s final 53-man roster, according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star. The 6-6, 215-pound signal-caller appeared in 28 games (24 starts) at the University of Tennessee, completing 540 passes on 922 attempts (58.6 pct.) for 7,444 yards with 69 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. If it weren’t for maturity issues and concerns about his work habits, there’s no question Bray would have been one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2013 NFL Draft. Photo Credit: KCChiefs.com “I made a lot of mistakes at Tennessee,’’ said Bray, who wouldn’t elaborate, via the Kansas City Star. “I had a lot of off the field issues and that could have had something to do with it. Stupid mistakes. I’m here now and I’m a free agent. That’s OK with me. I’m just here to play football. “Every rookie in the draft has got to prove something. We all knew we weren’t going to come in and start. I’m going co

Chiefs rookie QB knows exactly why he was overlooked

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Former Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray has a rocket arm and a tall frame (6 feet 6, 215 pounds) and a skill set that NFL teams tend to dream about in a quarterback.

Yet when the NFL draft came and went last month, Brays name went unannounced by commissioner Roger Goodell.

Bray, who forfeited his senior year to come out early, waited and waited for a phone call that never came.

And Bray has a strong suspicion why.

I made a lot of mistakes at Tennessee, Bray said after the first day of the Chiefs three-day rookie camp Friday.

I had a lot of off-the-field issues and I think that had something to do with it.

Asked to elaborate, Bray understandably seemed anxious to simply move on.

Just making stupid mistakes, Bray said. Im here now, Im a free-agent and Im ready to play football.

But those stupid mistakes no doubt haunt Bray to some degree.

Brays trouble started early in 2012 when he and his roommate, after a night of drinking, were accused of throwing golf balls and beer bottles at a c

Former Chiefs tackle Will Shields says Eric Fisher can play both tackle positions, and should

Former Kansas City Chiefs great Will Shields weighed in on if he felt the number one overall pick could play either tackle position.

He said if the player is a good enough athlete it shouldn’t make a difference.

It’s about how much work a player puts in to learn each position, not much rocket science to it.

Shields played right guard, however during his 14-year career with the Chiefs he occasionally had to cover players at other positions, including left tackle.

“Some people make it more complicated than it can be,” said Shields, via Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star.

“It just depends on how good you are as an athlete. How are you going to work at it to make yourself work on both sides. In high school, I played left. Then, all through college, I played right. It depends on your mental makeup of ‘Hey, can I switch sides …’ What are you going to do win a job, that’s what it comes down to.”

“That’s where you have to figure out which one of these guys is the best to protect

Alex Smith will never lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl

Haven’t we seen this before? The Kansas City Chiefs were overly impressed with Matt Cassel over his performance for one season, and now they are reliving the past.
The deal for Alex Smith will be an epic failure because it will not lead to a Super Bowl winning team for the Chiefs.
While Alex Smith is not a Super Bowl quarterback, he is a very capable system quarterback. Smith had proven to work well in an environment when you surround him with talented receivers, good coaching, a good defense and a strong running game... Read more

Kyle Turley: I considered suicide

Former NFL offensive lineman Kyle Turley, 37, is suffering from severe mental problems has considered suicide. During his NFL career Turley was diagnosed with two concussions but he believes he suffered more that were undiagnosed. “No one in my family has ever gone crazy and killed themselves or thought about that. I have,” Turley said during a phone interview with U-T San Diego. “It’s not a thought that is fleeting. It’s a thought that goes away when I’m on my medication, and the thought of doing a lot of crazy things as well and making unbelievable decisions.” Turley told U-T San Diego. Turley told the paper that the medication, Depakote, “stops me from doing a lot of things my brain wants me to do in destructive ways.” During his NFL career, Turley appeared in 109 games for the Saints, Rams and Chiefs and may best be remembered for this helmet toss. Turley has agreed to have his brain donated to medical research upon his death and has donated money to the Gridiron Greats Assista...
