Vince Young graduates from college

Former Tennessee Titan and Philadelphia Eagle, Vince Young hasn’t found his way back to the NFL however, Young has completed the remaining credits to receive his degree in Youth and Community studies this spring from the University of Texas.

“This will rank No. 1 because it is what I came to school for. I came here to get an education, and to win a national championship. And now, I get to put that smile on my mom’s face.”
“I’m about to be the first in my family to graduate. Just finishing what I started. That’s why I’m trying to get back in the NFL. To finish what I started. That is the type of guy I am. I do work hard — even when the times are good or bad. That’s just how I was raised.
“My mom used to be strung out on drugs. The one thing she used to always be able to do, was be in the house to go to work the next morning. I don’t know how she got up after she was doing the things she was doing, but she used to be right there making sure we were getting ready for school and she was g

Titans linebacker Moises Foku was arrested for DUI

According to The Washingtonian, Titans linebacker Moises Foku was arrested for driving under the influence alcohol back in Janurary. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. A United States Park Police officer arrested the 27-year-old Fokou around 3 AM on a Friday in January. The officer pulled Fokou over after witnessing Fokou drive his BMW at a high rate of speed and across the solid double yellow lines on 14th Street near McPherson Square, the arresting officer said in a sworn statement. “As I was speaking with [Fokou] I detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage,” the arresting officer said in the statement. “His eyes were bloodshot and watery while his speech was slurred.” Fokou told the officer that “he had a few drinks” at a DC nightclub, and claimed his BMW “just takes off sometimes,” said the officer. After administering a field sobriety test on Fokou, the officer placed Fokou under arrest. Fokou was taken to a Park Police station; he declined to take a breath ...

Tennessee Titans Kendall Wright slims down after dumping junk food

The Tennessee Titans drafted wide receiver Kendall Wright in the first round of the 2012 draft.
The wideout was fresh out of Baylor as RG3′s favorite target and ready to make a direct impact on the NFL. His 64 catches for 626 yards and four scores were hardly the numbers of a bust. But they were not set the world on fire stats either.
To combat the plague of the perception that he is a garden variety middle-of-the-pack player, Wright has worked hard this offseason.

The Jake Locker Dilemma

ED: I'm in the midst of Football Outsiders Almanac 2013 writing season, which means I've written a couple thousand words about the Titans this week but you don't get to read them yet. Blogging rate will be light for potentially the next month or so.

Quote dump today, since I'm short on time and these have been sitting on my computer for a while. First, Russ Lande in a podcast with Mike Tanier before this year's draft:

Jake is a guy that when you look at everything he has, it's rare except for one thing, and that's his accuracy. He can't hit the broad side of a barn. And I mean, I sat there at the Senior Bowl with two quarterback coaches, and we watched him. And they both turned to me and they said, "Russ, I don't mind taking on a quarterback who's inaccurate, but he better have a mechanical flaw. This kid has no flaws. He's perfect mechanically, and he still can't hit the broad side of a barn." He said, &quo...

Rookie pair bolsters Titans' offensive line

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Much has been made of the Titans drafting an offensive lineman in the first round, for the first time in two decades.

It was an interior pick, too. That hadnt occurred with the TitansOilers franchise in three decades.

But Alabama guard Chance Warmack was too good to pass with the No. 10 overall pick, especially with former Bills guard Andy Levitre already arriving via free agency. Coupled with veteran tackles Michael Roos (left) and right tackle David Stewart, a once-woeful offensive line has apparently been rebuilt in a hurry.

Even the re-signing of veteran Fernando Velasco (before the draft) made the center slot secure, too. But when the Titans selected California's Brian Schwenke (Round 4) the highest-rated center on the Titans' draft board the conversation soon turned to when he would move into the starting slot, flanked by Levitre to the left and Warmack to the right.

"It is a good place for an O-lineman right now," Schwenke said of being mentored by two Hall of

Bernard Pollard won't go to the White House with the Ravens

Notorious NFL headhunter Bernard Pollard is once again speaking to the media. Last time he did that, he said the NFL wouldn't be around in 30 years.

This time, he's saying he won't be visiting the White House with the rest of his Super Bowl winning teammates, because he 'doesn't want to be in the room with certain people.'

He specifies that it's not his teammates, and it's not GM Ozzie Newsome or owner Steve Bisciotti. It seems like it's most likely head coach John Harbaugh.

This is nothing new, since Pollard seems to have issues with every team he's on. His production on the field is solid, but off the field, he's known as a malcontent and a complainer. When he suits up for the Titans this year, it will be his 4th team in 6 seasons. Usually, it's unheard of for productive players to bounce around like that.

Good luck to the Titans, who have quite an interesting character on their hands. Hopefully, for their sake, they can ...

Titans add RB Alvester Alexander, LB Greg Jones

The Titans continued their roster shuffling on Wednesday, adding a veteran and a quasi-veteran in running back Alvester Alexander and linebacker Greg Jones. To room for Alvester and Jones, the Titans waived recent undrafted free agent signee running back Stefphon Jefferson, while the other roster spot came from the departure of Canadian OT Matt Sewell.

Alvester spent the final week of 2012 on the Titans' practice squad, an appearance so memorable I'd actually forgotten about it until news of the signing broke. He spent most of 2012 on the Colts' practice squad. A Houston native who attended the University of Wyoming, he has yet to appear in an NFL game. If I've seen him play (last preseason, probably), I've forgotten about it. Jefferson was a highly productive collegiate back I thought might have had a chance to beat out Jamie Harper, but that was more a reflection of what I thought Harper's role was than any particular like for Jefferson's game.

Bernard Pollard missing Ravens’ White House visit, holds grudge

Bernard Pollard was one of the key members of the Baltimore Ravens’ Super Bowl-winning defense last season. Despite his great season last year, the team released him in March. He signed with the Tennessee Titans, and it sounds like there are some hard feelings between him and some people associated with the team.
During an interview with Norris & Davis Show on 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore, Pollard said he was “stunned a little bit” over his release. He said he would not be joining the team in DC for its celebratory visit to the White House, explaining that he already had a family vacation scheduled. But he says he would not have made the trip anyway even if he didn’t have a conflict.
“I’m not gonna be there,” Pollard told the hosts, via Pro Football Talk. “I’m either going to have someone get my ring or have them ship it to me. I gotta sit this one out, man. I actually have a vacation with my family and then I’m coming back to get [my ring]. If I didn’t have a vacation, I wouldn’t c

Jake Locker has one season to impress

Everyone in Tennessee is on notice going into 2013. Since Mike Munchak took over as the Titans' head coach, their record dropped from 9-7 his first year in Tennessee to just 6-10 a season ago. With such a drop off, it seems anything short of a winning record would leave Munchak without a job, and the Titans would begin evaluating who on their roster would follow him out the door.

Also on trial heading into the season is Titans quarterback Jake Locker. The Titans spent the eighth overall pick in 2011 to bring Locker to Tennessee, but since that time, he's been something of a disappointment. Last season, Locker completed just 56.4% of his passes, and worse yet, he threw more interceptions than touchdowns.

Still, Locker has been given a very good chance to succeed in Tennessee. Chance Warmack will beef up protection around Locker, and Justin Hunter will give Locker an explosive target to throw to. In addition, Chris Johnson is the most exciting homerun threat at the run...

Walker ready for Titans' No. 1 tight end role

NASHVILLE, Tenn. After spending all seven years of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers, tight end Delanie Walker knew change was inevitable.

But he admits joining a new team to take the over lead role at the position has felt weird.

Its like youre getting a divorce, Walker said with a chuckle. And now you get a new wife. You gotta learn all over again. You are on your best behavior.

Walker joining the Titans via free agency was a match not made in heaven, but rather by circumstance. After playing in the shadow of Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis, Walker wanted to be the lead man at tight end. Having lost former tight end Jared Cook to the St. Louis Rams through free agency, theTitans needed a lead dance partner at the position.

Thus, the marriage between Walker and the Titans when he signed March 14.

When I was with the Niners, I played 70 percent of the time, said Walker, who had 21 catches for a career-high 244 yards and three touchdowns last season. Being here and having the ability to play 10

Titans add DT Antonio Johnson

The Titans on Monday brought back a familiar name, signing defensive tackle Antonio Johnson to a one-year deal. He spent 2012 with the Indianapolis Colts.

The man known as Mookie was a fifth-round pick by the Titans back in 2007 who failed to make the 53-man roster. The Colts plucked him off their practice squad in 2008 and gave him 46 starts over the next five seasons. In their transition to the 3-4 last year, he primarily played nose tackle for a defensive line that was probably worse than the Titans'. He's a better fit as a 4-3 defensive tackle than as a 3-4 nose, but 1.5 career sacks and the fact that he's on the street in May should give you an idea of precisely what kind of player the NFL sees Johnson as.

The big question is what does this mean for the defensive line mix? I've written before on my struggles to figure this group out. Johnson gives the Titans 11 defensive linemen who spent 2012 on an NFL 53-man roster. That does not include Zach Clayton, ...

Titans' run-first plan set to benefit Chris Johnson

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- First-year offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains vows the Tennessee Titans will feature a run-first offense in 2013 for the simplest of reasons.Thats what his bosses general manager Ruston Webster and head coach Mike Munchak are expecting to see happen.

The head coach and general manager around here think only three things happen when you throw the football, Loggains said with a laugh, and two of them are bad."
The renewed emphasis on the ground game should be music to the ears of sixth-year running back Chris Johnson, who is trying to return to the form that netted him 2,006 yards in 2009, his second season. Since then, his best season was 1,364 yards in 2010, but he dropped to a career-low 1,047 in 2011.

Last season, Johnson gained a respectable 1,243 yards.
But in half the games, he was held to 56 yards rushing or less. His breakaway speed had seemingly slowed by a tick or two, and the offensive line was decimated by injuries.

The first thing we talked about with the offense wh

Warmack, rookies kick off NFL careers in Titans camp

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Bright-eyed and raring to go, the Tennessee Titans incoming class of drafted players and undrafted free agents donned team jerseys and hit the practice field late Friday afternoon for the first time as professionals.

For first-round draft pick Chance Warmack, it was finally a chance for the former Alabama guard to get a feel for what it will be like to be coached by not one, but two Pro Football Hall of Fame linemen.

It was a great experience, Warmack said of the direct tutoring from Titans head coach Mike Munchak and offensive line coach Bruce Matthews. They each paid particular attention Friday to their incoming crop of offense linemen that also includes center Brian Schwenke, a fourth-round draft pick out of California.

(Its) just learning from those guys, learning different techniques and the tempo you need to run in the NFL, just picking their brains, asking them questions to help me improve as a better player, Warmack added. You are going to go through some growing pains, like coach

Titans Tell Justin Hunter To Gain Weight Before Training Camp

The Tennessee Titans have their sights set on big things in 2013 after finding good value and addressing almost all of their needs in last month’s draft. Photo Credit: Donn Jones/TitansOnline.com With this being a quarterback-driven league and arguably a make-or-break third year for Jake Locker, the team opted to give its starting signal-caller the tools for success by using their first-round pick (No. 10 overall) on improving his protection with the addition of Alabama OG Chance Warmack. The Titans then traded up to the top of the second round (from No. 40 to No. 34) to select a local product and one of the most lethal receivers in this draft class by the name of Justin Hunter. Right after Tennessee took Kendall Wright with the No. 20 overall pick in last year’s draft, we told you to expect an immediate impact from the versatile and lethal receiver in the Titans’ offense. And Wright did just that with 64 receptions for 626 yards and four scores in 15 games (five starts).
S Pollard part of Titans' new aggressive attitude

New Titans safety Bernard Pollard promises that Tennessee's revamped defense will be aggressive and ready to fight in what he calls ''smack you in the mouth'' football.

And whatever is said in the Titans' building among coaches and players will be staying there too.

The Titans have been busy this offseason trying to fix a defense that gave up a franchise-worst 471 points. They gave Gregg Williams his first job as a senior defensive assistant after serving a yearlong suspension for his role in the New Orleans' bounty scandal, and they also signed veterans like Pollard to add winning experience and nasty attitude to the mix.

Now they're learning the new defense during the team's offseason program, a defense Pollard said Tuesday will have an aggressive mindset from the beginning.

Titans hit first OTAs eyeing position battles all over roster

NASHVILLE, Tenn. By the time training camp opens in late July, the roster of the Tennessee Titans will swell to 90 players. By the time camp ends a month or so later, that roster will be whittled down to 53 survivors.

But with the unprecedented aggressiveness of signing more than a dozen free agents coupled with filling even more immediate needs through the recent draft, the Titans front office and coaching staff served notice that competition will be the name of the game for those who are to join the team for the 2013 season.

I would hope that these guys make their living being competitive, third-year head coach Mike Munchak said. I wouldnt expect anything other than everybody to rise up and compete.

I think that when you get this far, its hard to get to the NFL without having a competitive nature that would make you want to work and battle for a spot on this team.

This week signals the start of official workouts for the Titans called OTAs organized team activities, formerly labeled as minicamps at Ba
