Reggie Bush: I Came To Detroit To Win Championships

The Detroit Lions haven’t always been the necessary landing spot for top free agents in years past. The Lions seem to be a player or two away now from establishing some sort of post season tradition, and running back Reggie Bush might be the guy to help get them over the hump.
Bush was with his new team for the start of their OTAs, and let it be known that he’s about his business, and he’s in Detroit to win championships according to the Detroit News.
“I came here to work,” Bush said, via the Detroit News. “I didn’t come here to vacation. I came here to win championships, to win football games, and that’s what I look forward to doing.”
Bush also admitted that right now, he’s happier with the Lions than he ever was with the Saints or Dolphins.
“Some guys have been asking me, ‘How was Miami? How was South Beach,’” he said. “I tell them, you know, it’s nice but if the football isn’t right, it doesn’t matter where you are at. If your work isn’t right, you are not going

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz plans to use Reggie Bush as a runner, receiver and return specialist

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has wisely been letting the electric Reggie Bush return punts in organized team activities. Signing a four-year contract with Detroit in March worth roughly $20 million, Schwartz also plans to frequently target the 28-year-old Bush as a receiver and use the former Trojan as a full-time, three-down back. Splitting carries with youngster Lamar Miller in Miami, the 6-foot, 203 pound Bush rushed for 986 yards and six touchdowns as a Dolphin in 2012. Compiling 2,730 yards and 15 scores as a receiver since debuting in 2006, the wannabe Heisman Trophy winner will compensate for … Continue reading →

Matthew Stafford: The Lions are My Team

The key for the Lions this year is really simple in my humble opinion. The team won 10 games and made the playoffs for the first time in 12 years in the 2011 season following 40 Touchdowns and 16 INTs from quarterback Matthew Stafford. But then fell to just 4 win in 2012 after Stafford only managed to throw 20 Touchdowns and 17 INTs. Coincidence? I think not.
The success of the Lions will mainly hinge on the progression of their young signal caller. Not just on the field, as a key component of taking that next step as a quarterback is becoming a leader. Stafford talked with the media Wednesday and had a quick response when asked whether or not he feels this is his team.
Per DetroitLions.com: ”Yeah, absolutely,” Stafford said. “I’m a year older. I’ve been through it that much longer. I think guys on the team understand that and respond to it.”‘
I think a good sign was the fact that Stafford answered so confidently. If you have been following the Lions over the recent years, behavior a

Mikel Leshoure, Louis Delmas didn’t participate in OTA’s

According to the Detroit News, Lions safety Louis Delmas didn’t attend this week’s organized team activities as he continues to work on strengthening his knees.
“We’re in communication with Lou,” coach Jim Schwartz said. “He’s not here right now but there’s nothing he can get out of this because he can’t physically do the stuff we’re doing.”
Running back Mikel LeShoure was an attendance but didn’t participate due to an undisclosed injury.
“He’s battling some stuff,” Schwartz said. “He can do some individual stuff but he’s not ready to do any team work.”

Reggie Bush came to Detroit to win, not vacation

ALLEN PARK, Mich. Reggie Bush has gone from Hollywood to the French Quarter to South Beach to Greenfield Village?

This new job with the Detroit Lions is providing quite a change in scenery and nightlife opportunities for Bush.

He played in college at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, spent the first five years of his NFL career in New Orleans and then played the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

Its going to be a lot different now. Bush goes to practice and works out in Allen Park, where the Lions have their headquarters.

The top landmark? Try that historical museum, Greenfield Village, in nearby Dearborn.
Asked if theres going to be enough excitement around here considering what hes used to, Bush said, I came here to work, I didnt come here to vacation. I came here to win championships and win football games. Thats what I look forward to doing.

Others, even teammates, remain curious about his past stops.

Nate Burleson: A Lion in the Rough

You may not immediately think of the name Nate Burleson when
you think of the Detroit Lions. However, for the past three years he has been an
underrated commodity and a great leader for the team. He has flown under the
radar for the majority of his ten year career, but has managed to rack up over
5000 receiving yards and 38 touchdowns. He turns 32 in August, but the seasoned
veteran still has plenty left in the tank.

Drafted out of the University of Nevada in the 2003 NFL
draft, Burleson instantly showed promise for the Minnesota Vikings. The third round
pick was a constant presence on the field, playing both receiver and on special
teams. In 2004, Burleson really made his mark, netting 1006 receiving yards and
nine touchdowns.

Burleson signed with Seattle in 2006, where he played four
impressive seasons for the Seahawks. He didn’t see much time at receiver, but
made the most of his opportunities as a punt and kick returner, and became one
of the biggest return threats in the NFL. He left Seattle in

2013 Fantasy Football Preview: Detroit Lions

This article is an overall analysis of the Detroit Lions' offense and it's fantasy football value. Let's first evaluate some important and crucial numbers from last season and predict how the Lions will do this season.Vital 2012 Stats:Points Scored: 23.2 point per game (Ranked 17th)Rushing: 100.8 yards per game (Ranked 23rd)Passing: 307.9 yards per game (Ranked 2nd)I won't elaborate on the team's defense/special teams but the Lions didn't have a defensive touchdown and had only one touchdown via punt return. We can assume the Lions offense will only get better due to the acquisition of Reggie Bush. Bush is a versatile running back and will easily average more rushing yards per game this season than the Lions averaged all of last season. His presence will also open up Calvin Johnson, who didn't have as many touchdowns as his fantasy owners would have hoped.Let's take a look at their 2013 schedule and evaluate.2013 Schedule:Week 1 - Sept. 8 - vs. Minneso...

The Detroit Lions wish to destroy the Little Caesar's Bowl (and show its hatred of America) with a bowl game of its own.

The Detroit Lions hate America. This was proven when Nickelback was the halftime show a few Thanksgiving Day games ago. To really nail out the idea home, the team has decided to kill that most American of traditions, The Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl, in order to create a college bowl game of its own at Ford Field.

ESPN reports that the Lions are planning to start up and run its own bowl game at Ford Field starting in 2014. This would replace the beloved Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl, and give a great American company headquartered in Detroit the finger. What a disgusting thing to do to a company that boldly remained in the Motor City while other companies have left it for dead.

The new bowl would reportedly have tie-ins with the Big Ten and ACC, leaving the MAC out in the cold. Again, the Lions hate America by ending the proud tradition of a matchup between a worthy MAC team and team from the Big Ten/Sun Belt if there isn't a bowl eligible B1G team, worthy at-large tea...

Lions WR Johnson confirms he had injured fingers

Calvin Johnson is downplaying whatever was wrong with his fingers last year.

Johnson caught 122 passes for an NFL-record 1,964 yards last season, putting up incredible numbers despite the fact that the rest of the offense was inconsistent. The Lions went 4-12, but after signing Reggie Bush in the offseason, they hope Johnson will have a little more help this year.

Johnson met with reporters Monday. He was coy when asked how badly his fingers were hurt last year, saying he ''had a couple injuries to them'' - but nothing that affected his play much.

Report: Calvin Johnson Didn’t Actually Break His Fingers

It was reported earlier today that Detroit Lions star receiver Calvin Johnson had confirmed that he played with three broken fingers last season. But that turns out not to be true, per ProFootballTalk.com. Photo Credit: Gavin Smith/DetroitLions.com PFT’s story disputes a report from the Detroit News, which includes a Q-and-A with the 6-5, 236-pound wide out that contains no specific quote where Megatron claims to have played with broken fingers. While the team has yet to address the contention—which is really a non-issue at this point—it doesn’t change the fact that Johnson played through the “Madden curse” and injured fingers and regularly battled double teams, yet somehow he still managed to tear up the stats sheet with a career-high 122 catches and 1,964 yards (with five TDs) in 2012. In six seasons, Megatron has appeared in 92 games (87 starts) and collected a whopping 488 receptions for 7,836 yards and 54 scores. Don’t be surprised if the former 2007 first round pick (No. 2 o...

Calvin Johnson talks broken fingers and Titus Young

Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson confirmed Monday that he broke the NFL single-season record with 1,964 receiving yards last year despite playing much of the season with broken fingers.

Trying to straighten them things out, Johnson said of the crooked fingers on his left hand.

Johnson said he wasnt certain exactly when he suffered the injury. It was never reported by the Lions on their mandatory injury updates.

You just think its something thats hurting and you keep playing, Johnson said.

During an interview with reporters Monday morning at the teams headquarters in Allen Park, Mich., Johnson also addressed the off-field troubles of former teammate Titus Young.

Young remains in jail in Riverside, Calif., after being arrested three times in less than a week.

Very tough, Johnson said. Just pray he can get his off-the-field stuff straight so he can move on with his life.

You can never foresee things like this but I wish him the best. Were praying for him.

Calvin Johnson played 2012 with broken fingers

credit: Getty Images Lions receiver Calvin Johnson set a record with 1,964 yards receiving last season. He did so with broken fingers. Johnson confirmed to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News that he had broken fingers in addition to his knee issues last season. What is not know is how many fingers were broken. Rumors in February placed the number as high as three. The news makes Johnson’s 2012 season all the more impressive. Johnson will turn 28 during the 2013 season but is right in his prime years. The Lions should be set on one side of the field for years to come considering Johnson signed an eight-year contract worth $132 million last March.
Detroit Lions battle shaping up at OLB?

After the Detroit Lions set up Stephen Tulloch, DeAndre Levy and Justin Durant as their starting linebackers two seasons ago, I (and a lot of other observers) never thought that the positions would be a question mark so soon. The Lions failed to re-sign Durant this off season and while middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch is playing under a long-term deal and DeAndre Levy has a new deal in hand, the vacancy created by Durant, or should I say the Lions, remains an apparent question mark and gaping hole in the defense...
Free agent safety Charles Woodson ‘open’ to playing for Lions

Free agents safety Charles Woodson is ‘open’ to the possibility to playing in Detroit and the team could have a very good tandem along with Louis Delmas.

However, as Woodson tours teams, the one who stops posturing will win his services.

Oakland and Denver have offers on the table, the New York Giants have interest, Woodson has a market that’s growing, but there is still time to grab the veteran.

He would provide the solid mature leadership of a Super Bowl champion; show how it’s supposed to be done. When asked if would like to play for the Lions, Woodson replied:

"If I make it out of my visit with Oakland, like I just made it out of the visit with Denver, then I'm open," Woodson said, via Angelique S. Chengelis of the Detroit Free Press.

"Here's the thing about the Lions, the Lions have players. What the Lions haven't been able to do is put it together. That winning attitude and to be able to start those winning ways, it has to start somewhere. ...

Lions trust in Matthew Stafford at an all-time high?

Just the other day, Lions reporter Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press was reporting that backup QB Shaun Hill has been walking around with a boot on his left foot. The reason for the boot according to Birkett was due to Hill undergoing minor surgery to repair a minor but nagging injury.
Just talked to #Lions backup QB Shaun Hill. Has a boot on his left foot. Said he underwent a minor surgery to repair a nagging injury.
— Dave Birkett (@davebirkett) May 17, 2013

Despite the surgery, Hill expects to be 100 percent by the start of training camp.
So no problem and no worries correct?
Well you’d think there would be some sense of apprehension for the Lions given Hill is 33 years old which is by most account over the hill in terms of NFL shelf life.
But this doesn’t seem to be the case for the Lions who didn’t really do anything to address the situation.
Beyond Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill the Lions don’t have a legitimate NFL starter. Currently as a third string Detroit has untes...

Bush: Stafford can be a Hall of Famer

The Detroit Lions are making sure to give their young quarterback Matthew Stafford all the weapons he needs to have a successful 2013 season after the signal caller regressed during the 2012 campaign. Stafford, blessed with one of the strongest arms in the NFL today, newest weapon comes in the form of speedster running back [...]

Lions backup quarterback recovering from minor surgery

credit: getty images
Detroit Lions backup quarterback Shaun Hill is recovering from minor surgery on his foot. Hill had the surgery to repair a “nagging injury” on his left foot.
The Lions needed Hill for only one game last season. Hill came off the bench to go 10-of-14 for 172 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to Tennessee.
Hill, 33, is one of the leagues better backup options should something happen to starter Matthew Stafford and should be ready to go by the time training camp rolls around. His contract with the Lions is up at the end of this season.

Detroit Lions’ Schwartz, Mayhew still looking for the pony

Detroit Lions DE Ronnell Lewis tweeted an apology to fans for his part in an incident in Norman, OK last month. Lewis used Twitter to apologize to “everyone” and by that I presume he means fans, coaches, management and his teammates. He claims to have learned from his adventure and seems to commit to the idea that it won’t happen again. Good enough.
With his Tweets, Lewis has inadvertently put himself and the Lions staff in a touchy situation. Should Lewis become embroiled in another event of similar magnitude or greater, it will come down to what the Lions coaching staff and managers have to do about it. Like parents with the other kids watching, the discipline must not only be punitive where Lewis would be concerned, but would also have to send a clear message to everyone else present...
