Seahawks part ways with QB Josh Portis after DUI arrest

The Seattle Seahawks quickly pulled the trigger on releasing backup quarterback Josh Portis, suggesting that for starters he had little value for the team this summer. Portis was waived by the Seahawks on Tuesday shortly after his recent DUI arrest came to light.

The former undrafted free agent spent nearly two seasons with the Seahawks after initially signing with the team in 2011. While Portis was on the 52-man roster for his entire rookie season, he did not appear in a single game for the Seahawks. Portis spent parts of the 2012 season on the practice squad after being initially released in the final roster cuts earlier in the season only to be cut again by the team last November. However, he was re-signed to a reserve/future contract earlier last month. The deal was reportedly for two-year with a $480,000 base salary in 2013.

Portis was pulled over for speeding by a Washington State trooper on May 05 after he was clocked driving at 80 mph in a 60 mph zone on Interstate ...

Seattle Seahawks Waive QB Josh Portis

Sometimes in the NFL, you can get a pass, but that’s only if you are a star or a player with tremendous upside. Josh Portis has neither of those things. After getting pulled over under suspicion of being drunk while driving, the Seahawks have decided to part ways with the 2011 undrafted free agent out of California (PA).
This move likely solidifies that Brady Quinn is entrenched as the #2 with Jerrod Johnson as the #3.

Pete Carroll: Russell Wilson is “a million miles ahead of where” he was in 2012

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says that quarterback Russell Wilson is a lot further along this year then he was last year.
“He’s threw a couple of balls today, things that we talked about over the offseason that he’d like to take a shot at, and he did it today just to see what would happen with full awareness of why he was doing it,” Carroll said, per the News Tribune. “We were talking about trying to throw the deep ball last year over guys’ outside shoulder; we’re just a million miles ahead of where we were. He’s the kind of player that will affect other guys – he affects everyone around him – and hopefully that will help everyone play better and faster.”
There’s no doubt that Wilson is the Seahawks starter.
“The leadership role is already established, and also just the reps,” Wilson said. “Last year I was splitting a third of the reps all the way through August pretty much, so I think that will give me a bit of a boost and get me ready for the season. I’m excited a

Pete Carroll addresses Seahawks recent issues: ‘Unfortunately if you go wrong, you get popped and that’s how this thing works’

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll talked about the recent rash of incidents that has upset the balance of his team.

The Seahawks were becoming a role model franchise with innovative views on personnel, and the nurturing environment that seemed to mold players into do the right things.

However, lately the up and coming Seahawks have struggles with performance enhancing drug violations, DUI’s, and the mystery of Marshawn Lynch who is the only player missing from offseason training activities.

“Unfortunately if you go wrong, you get popped and that’s how this thing works, and I’m really disappointed that we have to deal with anything like this. But there are going to be other issues too, and we have to deal with them,” Carroll said, via Curtis Crabtree of Profootballtalk.com.

“We have people on staff that are here specifically to work with our individual guys because I really see this as an individual challenge. We try to bring each kid as far along as we possibly can to make...

Seattle waives backup QB Josh Portis

The Seattle Seahawks have waived backup quarterback Josh Portis a day after news surfaced of his arrest for driving under the influence earlier this month.

The Seahawks announced the decision to cut Portis Tuesday morning. Portis was on the field and an active participant during the Seahawks' first OTA workout Monday.

Portis was arrested on investigation of driving under the influence May 5 and faces a court arraignment next week. Portis was pulled over for driving 80 mph in a 60 mph zone on Interstate 90. The arresting officer wrote Portis performed poorly in field sobriety tests and later registered .092 and .078 in breath tests. The legal limit in Washington state is .08.

Portis was in his second stint with the Seahawks. He was re-signed by Seattle in early April after they traded Matt Flynn to Oakland.

Russell Wilson could approach elite status in 2013

It's just about impossible to argue the fact that Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had a phenomenal rookie campaign. He completed 64.1% of his passes for a total of 3,118 yards, 26 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. He finished the season with an outstanding 100.0 quarterback rating, and led his team to the second round of the playoffs.

However, Wilson was even more impressive than one can realize simply by looking at the season statistics. For the first half of the season, Wilson - a third-round pick - was put in a situation where he wasn't asked to do too much. The Seahawks wanted to play it safe with their young quarterback, and not put him in a position in which he was likely to fail, but after Wilson impressed through eight games, head coach Pete Carroll decided to open up the playbook for the rookie sensation.

During the second half of the season, Wilson racked up more than half of his passing yards (1,652), posted a ridiculous touchdown to interception ra...

Seahawks quarterback John Portis arrested for DUI

Seattle Seahawks John Portis who is expected to compete for the backup quarterback job, was arrested on suspicion of DUI earlier this month, and will face a court date after blood tests indicated a level above the legal limit amount, according to Philly.com.

Portis was pulled over for speeding on May 5th, and was tested with a blood alcohol level of .092, higher than Washington's limit of .08.

On the heels of another player PED violation, and the absence of running back Marshawn Lynch, the Seahawks once harmonious image is taking a beating this week.

The 25-year-old had just signed a two-year contract for $480,000 a year in April.

	Philly.com writes:

‘Portis could have expected to fight Johnson -- who also has never played a down in the NFL, with experience as a backup -- for a third-string spot.’

Seattle PI reports Seahawks backup quarterback Josh Portis was arrested by Washington State Patrol for suspicion of drinking while under the influence back on Cinco de Mayo and will be arraigned next week in Redmond Courthouse. The trooper noted there was “a strong odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle” and Portis had “watery bloodshot eyes.”
The trooper also wrote in the incident report a female passenger “stated Portis was a Seahawk player, and he did not have to get out of the car” when the officer asked Portis to get out of the vehicle.

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was the only healthy scratch at Seahawks OTAs.

Coach Pete Carroll didn’t have a reason for his absence, but he indicated the absence could take a while, he expressed hope Lynch could return by the team's final week OTAs.

According to the News Tribune, Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril didn’t participate in today’s organized team activity because of a plantar fascia issue in his foot.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says Avril injured his foot four weeks and was asked if it’s serious.
“Well, it hurts,” joked Carroll. “You could ask him about it. The plantar fascia thing is a real uncomfortable thing. You just have to wait it out.
“It’s something that you can come back from. It’s not a problem. But you just have to wait it out. He’s real anxious to go, and he’s doing very well in his rehab. And he runs some this week for the first time. So it will take another couple weeks at least.”

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Josh Portis was pulled over on May 5 for speeding. It was then that a Washington State Patrol officer noticied “a strong odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle” and that the driver “had watery bloodshoot eyes.”
Portis, 25, later submitted to two breathalyzers and his blood alcohol concentration readings were recorded as 0.092 and 0.078. The legal limit in Washington state is 0.08.
He was expected to compete with Brady Quinn and Jerrod Johnson for the backup job behind Russell Wilson.

Marshawn Lynch was a no-show at the Seahawks OTA’s

According to John Boyle of the Everett Herald, running back Marshawn Lynch was a no-show at today’s organized team activity. Head coach Pete Carroll didn’t have much of an explanation.
RB Marshawn Lynch was not at the #Seahawks OTA Monday. On the absence, Pete Carroll just said that OTAs are voluntary.
— John Boyle (@johnpboyle) May 20, 2013

Either Lynch took the day off, or is working out on his own somewhere else.

Suspensions may get Seahawks fined

The Seattle Seahawks could be facing punishment from the NFL in addition to the recent 4-game suspension of 2nd-year defensive Bruce Irvin due to a violation of the league performance-enhancing drugs policy, according to NFL.com: .@wyche89 reports #Seahawks could face fines by @nfl for multiple players being suspended in a season for violating PED policy after Irvin — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) May 20, 2013 Irvin reportedly tested positive for Adderall, a drug commonly used for individuals with Attention Deficit Disorder. The Seahawks have had more players test positive since 2010 than any other team, which includes cornerback Richard Sherman’s positive test for Adderall from last season which was overturned on appeal. Cornerback Brandon Browner, safety Winston Guy, tackle Allen Barbre and guard John Moffitt are the other violators. Carroll told KJR-FM that the policy needs to be evaluated. It is difficult to ignore that the positive tests, which are more than any other NFL team, coin...

Seahawks quarterback arrested for suspicion of DUI

According to The Seattle Times, Seahawks back up quarterback Josh Portis was arrested for suspicion of DUI back on May 5th and will be arraigned on May 28th.
Portis was pulled over at 9:26 p.m. on May 5 after he was observed driving 80 miles an hour in a 60-mile-an-hour zone exiting the Mount Baker Tunnel on eastbound I-90 in a 2008 Range Rover.

A report from the Washington State Patrol says the officer noticed “a strong odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle” and that the driver “had watery bloodshoot eyes.”

Portis later submitted to two blood tests and registered blood alcohol concentration readings of .092 and .078. The legal limit in the state of Washington is .080. He was charged with a gross misdemeanor.
I can only imagine this will hurt Portis’ chances of making the Seahawks final roster. I’m sure there’s a chance he gets released before training camp.

Seahawks have a PED problem of their own

According to Eric D. Williams of the The Bellingham Herald, six players on the Seattle Seahawks have tested positive for performance enhancing drugs since 2011. The latest one is defensive end Bruce Irvin, who tested positive for Adderall. Other Seahawks players that have failed performance enhancing drug tests are Brandon Browner, Winston Guy, John Moffitt, Allen Barbre and Richard Sherman. Yet Sherman appealed his suspension and it ended up being overturned. I personally believe Sherman wasn’t clean. He’s fortunate that someone supposedly slipped when they handled his sample. Players around the NFL have spoken out anonymously and have made it clear that the majority of players are taking Adderall. This is a widespread issue around the NFL, but the Seahawks have their own issues to work out within their organization. Need NFL Tickets?
The Seahawks took a huge step forward last season. Can they keep enough players active to continue moving forward? NFL Predictions 1.0

The Seahawks surprised a lot of people last season with their play and the play of QB Russell Wilson. There is a great rivalry born with the 49ers and I cannot wait to see them play this season. The Seahawks wont sneak up on anyone this year and they need to be prepared for every opponents best shot.

They need to get this banned substance situation cleared up. Are they being targeted? Is this a conspiracy or coincidence?

Team by team predictions.

What are they putting in the water at Seahawks practices?

The NFL announced today the four game suspension of Seahawks defensive end, Bruce Irvin. This marks the 5thSeahawk player since 2011 that has tested positive for performance enhancing substances, not including Richard Sherman, who successfully appealed his suspension last year.

As a Patriots fan, I have been on the receiving end of the “cheating” talk multiple times. From Spygate to the tuck rule to pumping in crowd noise, people never seem to have qualms about calling the Patriots, “cheaters.” However, it seems to me like these issues with the Seahawks should be deserving of a similar label. I refuse to believe the Barry Bonds “I didn’t know it was steroids” line. These Seahawks players are knowingly putting banned substances in their bodies with the intent of gaining the upper hand on their opponents. How many more Seahawks players need to be found guilty before the NFL steps in and reprimands the team as a whole. It is clear there is an attitude of indifferenc
