Don't You Just Hate Those Guys that Show Up to the Party Uninvited?

Two years ago it was Boise State.

Last year App State.

At least once a season a small time school busts onto the scene in a big way. They disrupt the college football landscape. Band wagoners come out of the wood-work and buy up every available jersey and hat they can buy. So who is it going to be this year?

UF Wins Despite Sluggish Second Half

University of Florida football coach Urban Meyer said he looked around the locker room during Saturday's halftime and saw "confused" looks. His team had just dominated Troy on offense, defense and special teams for 30 football minutes, and Meyer could tell by the expressions on some of his younger players' faces that the second half wouldn't go so smoothly.

It didn't.

After a first half just shy of perfect, the fourth-ranked Gators stumbled over their own feet for a quarter and a half before settling and finishing off the Trojans for a 59-31 win. Meyer said he hopes his team - which played 33 freshmen and sophomores Saturday - learned a lesson from the sluggish second half, because when the Southeastern Conference schedule begins with this week's matchup against Tennessee, the 49-7 halftime leads will be few and far between.

"Reality sets in," Meyer said, "when we hit the SEC this week."

From Rout to Doubt

Just when it looked like the young reserves were going to enjoy their first live action — and lots of it — in The Swamp, the Florida starters mysteriously melted down and changed everything.

After a near-flawless first half that saw Tim Tebow and the Gators build a 49-3 lead, Florida went into the tank big time in the second half and turned a comfortable rout into a messy victory that certainly raises concerns heading into next Saturday's Tennessee game.

The Gators picked up a 59-31 victory before 90,244 in The Swamp. But what about all those backups who had to think at the half that the rest of the game would belong to them?

UF's Brandon James' Return Provides Spark

Brandon James fielded the kickoff, shuffled his swift feet forward, and blazed upfield 57 yards. Just that fast, Florida's game-changing kick returner was back.

James' big return came on Troy's first kickoff midway through the first quarter of Florida's 59-31 win over Troy Saturday in The Swamp. It was James' first touch of the 2007 football season. It was also a reminder of Florida what was missing last week against Western Kentucky when James served a one-game suspension.

"He's a very aggressive returner," coach Urban Meyer said. "You talk about that 'it' at certain positions, he's got it. He hits it hard and is a dynamic returner."
