David West Sits Out Pacers Practice

Indiana Pacers' forward David West missed practice on Monday due to a strained right calf, as reported Indianapolis Star's Mike Wells.David West did not take part in live practice action because of a strained right calf. The Pacers say he'll be fine for Game 1.— Mike Wells (@MikeWellsNBA) May 20, 2013Although he was held out of practice, West ended up shooting around with his teammates after practice ended. As the Pacers make their first Conference Finals appearance since 2004, they expect that David West will play in Game 1 against the Heat. During the playoffs, West is averaging 15.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, both below his regular season averages. Follow @hoopsinjurynews

Chris Bosh ready to make difference against Pacers

MIAMI Chris Bosh didnt wait long to get pumped over facing the Indiana Pacers in a playoff rematch from last year.

As soon as Indiana won, the Miami Heat big man said Monday. Last time, it was more difficult because (our first) series got pushed out so long (to five games), we didnt know who we were going to play.

This time, Indiana took care of business (against New York) when they were supposed to, and we knew who we were playing right away. As soon as we saw Indiana playing us, we said, All right, the enemy has a face.

The Heat and Pacers will begin this years Eastern Conference finals at the American Airlines Arena on Wednesday night.

Miami rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat Indiana in six games during last years conference semifinals. Bosh missed most of that series after suffering an abdominal strain in Game 1.

Boshs presence this time should be a key factor in Miamis offense. His ability to step out and be a perimeter threat could force Indiana's 7-foot-2 center Roy Hibbert to leave the pai

Lance Stephenson is the wild card for the Pacers vs the Heat

The Indiana Pacers have the odds stacked against them facing the Miami Heat, but the team matches up well against Miami, and things could get very interesting if Lance Stephenson continues his impressive development as a player.
Adrian Wojnarowski has a nice profile of Stephenson, explaining how Larry Bird discovered him with a huge assist from another blast from the past, former Cleveland State coach and basketball guru Kevin Mackey.
Indian has size and they know how to play defense. But they’re young and their perimeter players are inconsistent. So they need several of these guys to step up against Miami, and Stephenson has the kind of talent that can thrive in these settings. But, he’s had to mature a lot these past three years, and now we’ll see if he’s ready for the big stage.
While some might call Stephenson a head case, you could say the same about Lebron James who has had some of the biggest post season meltdowns in NBA history. So let’s see if Stephenson can perform at a hi...

Has LeBron James started crying earlier this year? Usually he waits till after a Heat Pacers game to complain….

You just have to be amused over the comments LeBron James made about the Indiana Pacers playing against the Miami Heat. This year LeBron decided to take a different approach to his whining, He took to the media to say; “We’re not just another team’ to Indiana.” James was referring to all the extras that took place during last season’s play offs. Last year there was plenty of Pushing, shoving, a few extra words. This season I expect the Pacers to be just as physical as they were last time they faced the Heat in the play-offs. The problem is, so does LeBron James. He was made fun of in Indiana and he had a tough time dealing with it. His ego was bruised along with some other parts of his body. The Indiana fans were even making choke signs towards LeBron James. The Heat are going to be in for a real battle this Wednesday night when they take on the Pacers. James might think if he starts to complain early enough he can get the refs to see things his way. This is a guy that was talking...

Frank Vogel Didn’t Refer To Miami As “Just Another Team”

LeBron James created the non-storiest of non-stories Sunday, when he responded to Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel referring to the Miami Heat as “just another team”. Unfortunately for LeBron, that’s not what Vogel said at all. He referred to the Heat as “just the next team” — a less dismissive comment, and one that also happens to be 100% accurate as the Heat are, in fact, the next team the Pacers will be playing:
“It’s exciting, but this is not about getting back at Miami,” Vogel said when asked about facing the Heat. “You’re in the final four, you’re competing for a championship. You’re competing for a championship. And they’re just the next team that’s in our way. And that’s how we’re approaching it.”
Whatever LeBron thinks Vogel was insinuating with those comments, he blew it out of proportion with his response:
“We’re not just another team,” James said. “I don’t understand what he’s saying. But we’re not just another team. That’s not true. He said

LeBron James to Pacers Coach Frank Vogel: “We’re not Just Another Team”

Well it seems the opening salvos has been fired in what is sure to be a highly physical and competitive Eastern Conference Finals between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers. After eliminating the New York Knicks from the playoffs last night, Pacers head coach Frank Vogel made reference to the defending champs as “just the team” in his postgame remarks. Well, according to a story via Michael Wallace of ESPN, James didn’t appreciate the reference or Vogel’s condescending tone. “We’re not just another team,” James said. “I don’t understand what he’s saying. If we’re just another team, you really don’t prepare for just another team. You have to prepare for us.” The Pacers and Heat are familiar foes and have exchanged bitter words in the past. Vogel was fined $15,000 last year during their matchup in the playoffs for referring to them as a flopping team. LeBron says

Heat take umbrage at Frank Vogel's remarks

MIAMI You could say the Miami Heat are looking for bulletin-board material. But if it were tacked up what Frank Vogel really said, it wouldnt be very exciting.

Still, two Heat stars believe Vogel, the Indiana Pacers coach, has dissed them heading into the Eastern Conference finals, which begin Wednesday in Miami.

There is precedent for Vogel taking a shot at the Heat. Before the teams met in what turned out to be very chippy East semifinal last year, he called them floppers.

Its better for us, Miami center Chris Bosh said Sunday about what Vogel apparently now has said, claiming they're firing up the Heat more than last years remarks by Vogel. Its always good when you get some kind of motivation from the other side.

So what in the heck did Vogel say?

Its not about getting back at Miami, Vogel said Saturday after the Pacers eliminated New York about getting another shot at the Heat following last years 4-2 loss. When youre in the Final Four, youre competing for a championship. And theyre just the nex

LeBron to Vogel: Not just next team

Photo Credit: mnginteractive.com/AP With the Eastern Conference Finals set to start Wednesday in Miami, it seems like the war of words has already begun. During Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel’s post-game interview after defeating the New York Knicks in game six to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, Vogel referred to star LeBron James and the Miami Heat as “just the next team” in their way to a championship. Apparently, James took exception to the comment, and addressed it today. Here are some details via Michael Wallace of ESPN.com: “We’re not just another team,” James said. “I don’t understand what he’s saying.
Pacers headed to Eastern Conference Finals. And they’re ready…

Pacers Guard Lance Stephenson(Photo: Spurlock/USA Today)
The Indiana Pacers. The Eastern Conference Finals.
Who would have thought?
We knew they’d be back…some year.
But at the beginning of the 2012-2013 season? After losing their best shooter, Danny Granger, who would have thought it would be this year?
Anyone who watched them in the playoffs. That’s who.
Because the Pacers did what championship teams do. When one player went down…the others stepped up. Guys like D.J. Augustin, Ian Mahinmi, and yes…Lance Stephenson.
The guy who was much maligned, learned every lesson the hard way, and spent most of his first two seasons on the bench…has grown up overnight. He became a team player. And during game six of the Knicks series, he took over…and led his team to victory.
There will be no game seven. The Pacers are headed right to the Eastern Conference Finals. Do not pass go…do not collect $200.
On to Miami. And the Heat. Which is only appropriate…because it was against the Heat, early in ...

NY Daily News – keeping things classy

When you think of New York Newspapers, the NYDN is likely not the first or even second paper on your list. The Times and the Post have fought for that top spot for an awful long time now, so maybe it’s not surprising that sometimes the NYDN feels the need to push the envelope, generate a little controversy, and get some eyeballs to their pages. How else, then, do you explain this particular caption under the photo of New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony being serenaded off the court in the morning online edition of the Daily News, after the team’s season-ending loss to the Pacers in Game Six of the second round of the playoffs last night? (And don’t be surprised if by the time you click that link, the caption is gone.) Now, I don’t exactly have any love lost for either of the fanbases included in this series. The Boston/NY city rivalry is well documented, and any team that eliminates a NY team from playoff contention is fine by me. And even if the caption is pretty much writing ...

Slow Motion Video:The Indiana Pacers advance to the Eastern Conference finals

The Indiana Pacers needed a career-high game from Lance Stephenson to take down the New York Knicks in Game 6.
Stephenson chipped in 25 points on Saturday as the Pacers walked away with a hard fought 106-99 win to advance to the Eastern Conference finals.
Stephenson also secured 10 rebounds while Paul George contributed 23 points to the Pacers’ collection plate.
Roy Hibbert also game up big with a double-double of 21 points, 12 boards and five blocks.
The Pacers now go on to face the top-seeded Miami Heat in the East finals.
Across the court, Carmelo Anthony had a strong outing but stumbled hard down the stretch when New York needed him the most.
Anthony drained 39 points, but only four came in the final quarter for New York.
The Knicks superstar turned the ball over three times at crucial points, which more or less handed the contest to the Pacers.

Roy Hibbert stuffs a Carmello Anthony dunk attempt

Indiana Pacers’ Roy Hibbert came away with the huge block on New York Knicks forward Carmello Anthony during the 4th quarter of Saturday night’s Game 6. Melo appeared to have the clear path to an easy slam after spinning on Paul George. However, the 7’2” Hibbert came over from his help position to stuff Melo, and give the Pacers momentum before the game’s final push, which Indiana took, 106-99. The Pacers will play the Miami Heat for a spot in the NBA Finals.

Referee Ken Mauer threw up an awkward and terrible jump ball during the second quarter of Game 6 between the Knicks and Pacers on Saturday night. Watch as the ball is quickly and unexpectedly released from Mauer’s hands to Amar’e Stoudemire and D.J. Augustin.

Pacers' Hill will play in Game 6

Indiana Pacers guard George Hill has been cleared to play Saturday night against the New York Knicks in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Hill missed Game 5 on Thursday night in New York because of a concussion.

The Pacers released a statement about 1 1/2 hours before the scheduled tipoff saying Hill passed the NBA's return protocol as part of the league's concussion policy.

The Pacers said Hill remained symptom-free after each step, including workouts and the shootaround Saturday.

Hill scored 26 points Tuesday night in Game 4 after a first-quarter collision with Knicks center Tyson Chandler. Two days later, after the team's shootaround, Hill was still complaining of headaches. Team doctors then diagnosed him with a concussion, forcing him to sit out Game 5.

His replacement, D.J. Augustin, played nearly 39 minutes and had no assists as the Pacers lost 85-75, cutting their series lead to 3-2.

Pacers say Hill to undergo more concussion tests

Pacers guard George Hill will have another concussion test before Saturday's home playoff game.

Hill missed Thursday night's game after complaining of headaches. He was diagnosed with a concussion. NBA policy requires players to pass a concussion test before returning to action. Hill did not practice Friday, and coach Frank Vogel said he had not spoken with him. Vogel said Hill was expected to meet with doctors later Friday.

Team spokesman said Hill is still listed as day-to-day and noted that the recovery time depends on the player. Last year, Kobe Bryant was diagnosed with a concussion and did not miss a game.

Without Hill, the Pacers stumbled in an 85-75 loss at New York that allowed the Knicks to pull within 3-2 in the best-of-seven series.

Roy Hibbert on Pacers play in game five: “We played like pussies”

Frustrations are usually at a high after a playoff loss, especially when you play as putrid as the Indiana Pacers did against the Knicks last night in game five of the Eastern Semi-Finals. Pacers center Roy Hibbert clearly thought his team lacked toughness, and held no punches about it.
Hibbert, while apologizing to the women in the room, had this to say about the Pacers performance in game five, courtesy of Fred Kerber of the New York Post:

Let’s be honest, he isn’t wrong either. The Pacers were simply out-hustled, and out-worked by the Knicks last night. Some think that the Pacers may be in some serious trouble if point guard George Hill cannot return to the court because of a concussion suffered in game four.
However, I am not of that opinion, though it will undoubtedly be difficult. With Hill or sans Hill, I see the Pacers going back to Indiana and wrapping this series u

Hill could be out for rest of series

Indiana Pacers point guard George Hill missed last night’s Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks because of a concussion. Prior to the game Hill, who scored 26 points in the Pacers’ Game 4 win, showed concussion-like symptoms and failed to pass the NBA’s concussion tests. Pacers point guard George Hill missed last night’s Game 5 with a concussion and could be out longer. (Photo by Ron Hoskins/NBAE via Getty Images) Back-up D.J. Augustin started at the point in Hill’s absence, going a respectable 3-for-7 from behind the arc and scoring 12 points in Indiana’s 85-75 loss to New York. Twelve points, while four points short of Hill’s playoff average, isn’t bad. Here’s what is bad: Augustin didn’t register a single assist in 39 minutes last night, and moving Augustin to the starting lineup depletes a Pacers’ bench that was already lacking. When Augustin is on the bench, the Pacers have the choice of either moving Lance Stephenson to the point or bringing...

Miller would like job with Pacers

Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller, who will live in infamy with his eight points in nine seconds playoff performance against the Knicks, is now a prominent part of the TNT broadcasting crew. However, it seems that is not Miller’s only aspiration. In an interview with the Indianapolis Star that ranged from subjects of Spike Lee to his feelings about the current Indiana Pacers, Miller says that he would love a front office position if the situation was right, and the only situation he feels is right is back home with the Pacers. Here is a blurb of the interview with Miller: Q: You have the life of luxury. You work one day a week during the regular season. But how much do you think about running a team in the front office? A: All the time. It would have to be the right situation (and), for me, the only situation I know is Indiana. Those competitive juices always flow. During the regular season, not so much because it’s only one day a week. It really picks up come the end of March and April when the playof
