Season Review: JaQuon Parker

The season review series kicks into the final four players remaining. Today we are going to cover one of the senior leaders of the team, one of the leading scorers on the team, one of the leading rebounders on the team, JaQuon Parker. To catch up on the previous installments of the Season Review series, simply click on the players name and read away.

Titus Rubles - David Nyarsuk - Jermaine Sanders - Shaq Thomas - Justin Jackson

Ge'Lawn Guyn - Jeremiah Davis, Alex Eppensteiner, Kelvin Gaines

For the first time in his college career, JaQuon Parker played in every Cincinnati game, starting 33 of the 34 contests. Parker played a career high 30 minutes a game. He used a career high 21.1% of the Bearcat possessions. He had a career high 21.3% shot percentage. Parker made a career high 127 of 310 field goals, hitting 41%. He was a career best 40-100 from 3. That's 40% if you can't do simple math. Parker set another career standard with a career worst 54.2% outi...

The Four 3 Pointers by Titus Rubles

On Tuesday I wrote a season review about Titus Rubles. In that post, I noted what everyone already know, that Rubles made just 4 three pointers this season. There could easily be a post about the 43 or 44 three point attempts that Titus attempted, but this post is about the 4 that he made. How did such a bad 3 point shooter only make four? Or you could say how could such a decent shooter, around 41% on 2 pointers, be such a terrible 3 point shooter? A lot of that is because of his shooting form. Some of that is because of his range. There is something similar that I noticed about all 4 of these makes that you can't say about all of Rubles' attempts. We'll get to that after the picture show.

Season Review: Titus Rubles

The season review series is rounding towards the end. Only a handful of players are left to review. The next 4 days will have 4 player reviews. After taking a day off for Memorial day, there will be the final player review and a review of Mick Cronin. That will be the end of the reviews. A new series will start in June. Hooray new series. Hooray current series. I can feel the excitement in the air. Before we cover Titus Rubles, let's run through the players previously reviewed if you are new to the site.

David Nyarsuk - Jermaine Sanders - Shaquille Thomas - Justin Jackson

Ge'Lawn Guyn - Jeremiah Davis, Alex Eppensteiner, Kelvin Gaines

Titus Rubles came to Cincinnati from a junior college in Texas. Rubles played in all 34 games, starting 12. His starts came towards the end of the season as 9 of his starts came during conference play. Rubles averaged 22 minutes a game. He used 21.8% of Cincinnati possessions, meaning those possessions ended in a Rubles shot,...

Season Review: David Nyarsuk

This fine May day brings another season review, this time of one of the UC big men, David Nyarsuk. There have been season reviews for a handful of players:

	Jermaine Sanders

	Shaq Thomas

	Justin Jackson

Alex Eppensteiner, Kelvin Gaines, Jeremiah Davis

	Ge'Lawn Guyn

David Nyarsuk came to Cincinnati as the tallest Bearcat ever at 7'1. Unless he has a horrible shriking disease, he will leave Cincinnati as the tallest player ever. David played in 33 of the 34 Cincinnati contests. He even started 2 of them. He played 11 minutes a game. Dave used 13.3% of the Cincinnati possessions. He took shots on 12.3% of them. That means he turned the ball over a lot. And he did. 27% of the UC possessions that ended with Nyarsuk were capped off by him turning the ball over. Dave was pretty solid from the field. He was 39-66, 59%. He attempted only 23 shots during conference play. You would think the big guy who was hitting 6 of 10 shots would get a lot of shots, but that w...

The Many Baskets of Jermaine Sanders

yesterday I wrote a season review about Jermaine Sanders. In the post, I made a claim that Sanders did not have more than a handful of baskets that he created on his own. If no one assisted him, Sanders didn't score was my primary point. Since I couldn't find the assist percentage on made shots at Basketball State before my free page views wore off, I have to manually look at all of Jermaine Sanders' baskets. This sounds like a lot more work than it really it. Sanders only scored 38 baskets. He didn't score a basket in 12 of those games.

Why didn't you do a post like this during the season? That's a good question. The answer is simple. The game to game sample of Sanders made field goals were so small that they didn't really matter. When you add them up for a whole season things get interesting. We will find out how interesting in a few minutes.

This is going to be a pure list of the made baskets by Sanders. The following will look like this.

Season Review: Shaquille Thomas

The season reviews have been coming in alphabetical order from Jeremiah Davis, Alex Eppensteiner, Kelvin Gaines, Ge'Lawn Guyn and Justin Jackson, not to mention the state of the program, but today is a little different. When I said on twitter last night that I was going to be writing a recap today, someone named Cody wanted to read about Shaq Thomas. Since this is a blog for the people written by a person, today's season review is about Shaq Thomas.

Shaquille, don't call him Shaq, Thomas played in 33 of the 34 Cincinnati games this season. He averaged 10.8 minutes per game. Thomas used a pretty modest 18.7% of Cincinnati possessions. His shot percentage was 19.8%, which doesn't seem to add up. Thomas had a lower than you would think offensive rating of 93.6. He was 42-101 from the field, 41.6%. Thomas was 3-8 from 3. He was especially poor from the free throw line. This will be a huge area for his improvement as a sophomore. Thomas was 13-27, 48%. As a resul...

Season Review: Justin Jackson

Happy May, everyone. A man named Andrew Woods emailed me saying "When are you going to continue the season reviews?" The answer is today. I've been suffering some burnout lately and I need a kick in the ass every once in a while from you guys. It's appreciated.

I needed a kick in the ass to get back on the season recaps just like the next player up in the recaps needed a mid-season kick in the ass to start playing well. The next man up is Justin Jackson. If you missed the earlier reviews that I have written about the program, Jeremiah Davis, Alex Eppensteiner and Kelvin Gaines and Ge'Lawn Guyn, click on the links and read those as well.

Before the season started, I wrote a Getting to Know the Bearcats piece in which I predicted Justin Jackson would have an 8 -7 -1.5 block - 1.5 assist - 1.2 steal season. I didn't just expect him to get better, I expected a pretty big jump from him. Except in blocks. My prediction was a little off from that. J...

Season Review: Ge'Lawn Guyn

The season review series kicks off with the first individual player entry, that of Ge'Lawn Guyn. In previous entries I've talked about the program and 3 players who didn't play a lot. You can see those entries at the top of the page or by clicking on the links in this sentence.

Ge'Lawn Guyn came into this season with some people thinking he would have an expanded role since he was a sophomore. Those people would be wrong. Guyn's freshman and sophomore year numbers are nearly identical. He played a little over 10 minutes a game. He used 14.1% of UC possessions, meaning 14% of possessions ended with a Guyn shot, assist or turnover. That was a bit down from last year. Guyn had a small bump in his offensive rating as he improved it from 91 to 95. While it seemed that Guyn shot more, especially during a phase in the middle of the season, his shot percentage was 15.2. That was only up .6% from last year. Guyn was a worse shooter from the field at 37%. Only hi...

Season Review: Jeremiah Davis, Alex Eppensteiner, Kelvin Gaines

Earlier this week, I kicked off the season review with a look at the Cincinnati program. Up next are the players themselves. Last will be a review of Mick Cronin. Since stat sheet lists players in alphabetical order, that's a good way to go through the roster. That works out especially well because the 3 men at the top of the roster played a combined 33 games.

	#0 Jeremiah Davis

It's hard to get a good recap of Jeremiah Davis for this season because he only played in 4 games before injuring his wrist and missing the remainder of the season. Davis will receive a medical redshirt. Davis played nearly 11 minutes a game. He was going to be a key cog off the bench.

Jeremiah Davis was in gunner mode this season. He used 29.3% of UC possessions while he was on the court. He took shots on 29% of his possessions. He was 7-18 from the field, 3-9 from 3 and 5-6 from the foul line. The 5-6 from the foul line set his career high in free throws made. Davis averaged 5.5 po...

Kilpatrick will return to UC for senior season

Happy (whatever holiday is next), Mick Cronin.
Word of Cronin's gift became official Wednesday when the Cincinnati coach announced that Kilpatrick will return to school for his senior season. The Bearcats' leading scorer and best player said it wasn't an easy decision, but that it was the best one.I want to thank my coach and thank my parents for helping me through this process, UC let's do it 1 more time! BEARCATNATION DREAMCHASERS Sean Kilpatrick (@SeanKilpatrick_) April 10, 2013He wants to be the first person in his family to get his college degree, and he has basketball goals, too. He'll enter his final season as Cincinnati's 16th all-time leading scorer and should have the green light to climb the charts. He averaged 17 points per game last season.
Wednesday night the Bearcats held their season-ending banquet, and Cronin announced Kilpatrick -- a two-time pick as second-team All-Big East -- will be a team captain next season.

Cincinnati Crushed by Georgetown in Big East Finale

Cincinnati got off to a horrible start against Georgetown in today's 62-43 Big East tournament loss, and they ended the game with a terrible finish. Duh, they lost by 19 points. The Bearcats went on a run in the middle of the game to erase a 16 point deficit and take a 2 point lead. The lead didn't last long. Just like in the first meeting, Cincinnati recovered from a big hole, took the lead, but didn't have what it took to close out the Hoyas. They are just too good.

There were a few things that really haunted UC in this game. The offense was too reliant on the 3 point shot. They missed a ton early. They made a lot in the middle. Then they didn't get 3 point attempts late. The offense is unsustainable game to game. It's unsustainable segment to segment. What also hurt the offense were the turnovers. UC turned it over 9 times in the first half. They turned it over 5 times during the stretch the Hoyas pulled away. It's not rocket science. This team can&#3...

Members of the Cincinnati Bearcats basketball team had the unfortunate assignment of debuting the atrocious new uniforms created for the team (and others) by adidas during a Big East Tournament game against the Providence Friars on Wednesday. And man oh man, the original photos that were released previously did not do the jerseys sufficient condemnable justice, as seeing them in action, although it appeared to be a nearly impossible task, made them appear much, much worse. After starting off the season 16-3, the Bearcats have been fallen off the beaten path in a big way. At 20-10 (8-9 in conference play) for the season, they’re still likely to make the NCAA Tournament, but their seeding will be very much determined by what type of output they put forth in the Big East Tournament.
As has been the trend all season, Cincinnati will run their offense through sharpshooter Sean Kilpatrick, a 2-guard with the capability of playing the 3 as well.
Globetrotter destroys backboard on dunk

Darnell Wilks didn’t have the best career as a Cincinnati Bearcat where he averaged 3.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in his senior season. He was a great dunker though and even got into the 2011 College Slam Dunk Championship where he was a semi-finalist. That got the attention of the Harlem Globetrotters and they picked him up The post Video: Harlem Globetrotter Darnell Wilks DESTROYS Backboard on Dunk appeared first on No Coast Bias.

Cincinnati plucks guard Kevin Johnson from their backyard

In a matter of days, Cincinnati has put together their expected backcourt of the future. Just days ago, the Bearcats landed Virginia combo guard Troy Caupain. On Monday, Cincinnati snagged a verbal commitment from 6′-3″ guard Kevin Johnson, a prospect from Summit County Day (OH).
Bearcats could get a top-four spot in Big East

At this point of the season for Cincinnati, it's all about adding as many quality wins as possible in an effort to impress the NCAA Tournament selection committee

The Bearcats got a big one Thursday when they knocked off No. 17 Louisville 60-56.

Cincinnati (20-8, 10-5) earned its third consecutive win and fifth in six games. The victory should also boost the Bearcats' lackluster No. 82 standing in the RPI.

Cincinnati moved into a four-way tie for fourth place in the Big East with No. 9 Georgetown and South Florida. The top four teams receive double byes into the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.

Cincinnati has a chance to add another good win to its resume when it visits South Florida on Sunday. The Bulls are 17-11, 10-5 in the Big East, after having their four-game winning snapped at No. 2 Syracuse on Wednesday.

Senior forward Augustus Gilchrist is the only South Florida player scoring in double figures, as he is contributing 10.3 points and 5.0 rebounds a game. The Bulls have seven play

Bearcats sweatshirt has 'Cincinnati' misspelled

Via @dbaybucks
This is an official shirt for the Cincinnati bearcats unfortunately they may have spelled Cincinnati “Cincinnatti”. I’m sure some intern at the t-shirt factory is in a lot of trouble. Come on Bearcats! The least you can do is spell your town right.
Until then, go “Cincinnatti” Bearcats!

Criminal charges for Cincy-Xavier brawl?

This past Saturday’s basketbrawl between the Cincinatti Bearcats and Xavier Musketeers didn’t go without punishment– both internally by both teams and from their respective conferences–but it appears that the punishment may not yet be complete.
According to several sources, prosectors from the Hamilton County District Attorney’s office are reviewing tape from the incident and considering the possibility of filing criminal charges against those involved.
According to Hamilton County district attorney Joe Deters:
“My office will review the matter to determine whether any criminal charges are appropriate. We will have no further comment until a decision is reached.”
This could be an interesting turn of events on the backside of a very embarrasing and regrettable incident for both schools.
On the surface, it’s somewhat difficult to understand what charges could be considered by the office of a District Attorney who is typically responsible for filing and prosecuting offenders on felony c
