Tony Parker to undergo MRI

Spurs guard Tony Parker will undergo an MRI on Thursday to examine his calf ahead of Saturday's Game Three in the Western Conference Finals, Jared Greenberg of NBATV report (h/t Project Spurs).

Tony Parker to undergo an MRI tomorrow on calf. Says three days off couldn't have come at a better time @nba. @nbatv @nbaontnt
	— Jared Greenberg (@NBATVJared) May 22, 2013

Parker suffered a calf and ankle injury initially in San Antonio's series with Golden State when Andrew Bogut kicked him in the shin. Parker was able to play through that injury despite the injury swelling to a "baseball" size knot. It is unclear whether Parker has continued playing through the injury and is merely using the three-day break to check up on the injury and make sure no further damage is being done or if he re-aggravated it in Tuesday's Game Two victory.

Parker turned in an impressive performance in Game Two against the Grizzlies, scoring 15 points and recording a playoff ca...

Tony Allen flop leads to flagrant foul on Manu Ginobili

Some people are calling BS on this flagrant foul by Manu Ginobili on Tony Allen.

The San Antonio crowd was chanting "bulls**t" after viewing the replay, and Jason McIntyre of The Big Lead nominated Allen for an Oscar.

While it's clear that Allen embellishes the fall a bit, and starts clutching his head despite the fact that replays show that he never actually hit his head.

Still, in my humble opinion, Ginobili's foul was obviously flagrant. Allen was in the air, and Ginobili grabbed his arm. The risk factor is always elevated when a player leaves his feet, and even a relatively small bump or grab can really send him flying.

What's your take on his play?

In case you haven't seen it, here's the video. You make the call:

All 18 of Tony Parker’s assits from game two

Tony Parker put on a brilliant passing display during game two of the Western Conference Finals against the Spurs on Tuesday night in San Antonio. This video shows all 18 dimes from Parker in just about two and a half minutes.

Parker is averaging 21.6 points and 7.5 assists per game during the post season, and hasn’t seemed to slow down as the Spurs took a 2-0 lead against the visiting Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night. Parker had 15 points, 18 assists and 3 steals as the Spurs pushed their pace and ultimately walked away with a 93-89 overtime victory and take total control of the series. A series many picked Memphis to win.
Parker continues to be one of the association’s premier point guards, although he rarely gets the credit linked to being a top caliber floor general. Parker just keeps on trucking along, as he looks to add a 4th championship ring to his resume.

Tony Allen goes all out to sell flagrant foul

On Tuesday night the Memphis Grizzlies overcame an 18-point second half deficit to force overtime in Game 2 of their Western Conference finals series against the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs came through in the extra period, winning the game 93-89 and taking a 2-0 series lead. The climax of the Grizzlies’ late-game comeback was a four-point possession during the final minute of regulation involving a Manu Ginóbili flagrant foul on Memphis guard Tony Allen, a call that may have been influenced by Allen’s over-the-top reaction. - You’ll notice that Allen’s head never actually struck the floor. So his rolling-around-on-the-floor-while-cradling-his-head act probably wasn’t warranted. Allen’s theatrics aside, the flagrant foul call was correct. How a player lands and whether or not a player is injured has no bearing on whether or not a foul is considered flagrant. Instead of making a play on the ball, Ginóbili grabbed Allen’s arm and pulled him down while he was in the air and vulnerabl...

Quincy Pondexter owned Game 2′s biggest play, but the Memphis Grizzlies dropped the Western Conference Final game to the San Antonio Spurs.
Tim Duncan scored 17 points and Tony Parker had 15 to push the Spurs past Memphis 93-89 in overtime.
Parker had a career-high 18 assists, which put San Antonio up 2-0 as the series moves to Memphis on Saturday.
Besides the loss, the world will be on fire discussing the massive dunk that Quincy Pondexter put on Boris Diaw.

Tony Allen deserves a huge fine for flopping

The San Antonio Spurs escaped last night with an overtime victory in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals against the Memphis Grizzlies, and we say escaped because Tony Allen put on a performance that no doubt influenced the referees to call a flagrant 1 foul on Manu Ginobili with under thirty seconds to go in the fourth quarter with the Spurs leading 85-81. It was a hard foul on a breakaway by Allen, but it certainly wasn’t with malicious intent. But Allen acted as if he was brutally injured, and the refs called it flagrant, giving Allen two shots and the Grizzlies the ball. Allen calmly made the free throws, and then hit the game-tying jumper on the ensuing in bound of the ball. Judge for yourself: His head never hit the floor, but he acted as if it did. The NBA better follow-through on their ‘no-flopping’ rule and hit Allen with a large fine for what he did. The Spurs were able to win it in OT, but it never should have reached that point, and it most likely wouldn’t have, had ...

Parker breaks assist record in low scoring game

via SI.Com

Tony Parker broke his personal playoff assist record and set the record for most assists in a playoff game in his 18 assist performance in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. These achievements are more impressive when you consider that it’s a relatively low-scoring game, and he had 16 assists before the end of the third quarter (they were shut out in the 4th when Memphis made their rally).

Tony Parker’s consistent play has been a catalyst for the Spurs this season. It’s actually a toss-up between him and Tim Duncan for the Spurs valuable player.

Tony Parker had 15 points and a career playoff-high 18 assists, Tim Duncan scored San Antonio's first six points of overtime and the Spurs bounced back after squandering a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 93-89 on Tuesday night.

The Spurs took a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals with Game 3 on Saturday in Memphis.

Duncan opened the extra period with a layup, then made a tiebreaking putback on Parker's missed jumper before making a runner that bounced high of the back iron and rattled in for a 91-87 lead with 1:08 to play.

The Grizzlies had a chance to tie after Jerryd Bayless hit a jumper and Parker missed one of two free throws with 14.6 seconds left, but Bayless' 3-pointer from the left wing was off-target.

Bayless and Mike Conley each had 18 points to lead Memphis.

Duncan had 17 points and nine rebounds, missing most of the second half with foul trouble before coming up with the key baskets in overtime.

Tony Parker played a key role in the Spurs Game 1 win over the Grizzlies. He was also the subject of a death threat.
As KSAT.com reports someone called 911 and made death threats towards Parker with roughly five minutes left in the game between the Spurs and Grizzlies. Security was increased for the remainder of the game and afterwards as the issue is currently being investigated by the Bexar County Sheriff’s office.
Parker was escorted to his home by deputies as a precautionary move.

How Duncan would look like in a Celtics uniform

Hard to imagine it has been 16 years since the San Antonio Spurs won the 1997 NBA Draft Lottery and drafted Tim Duncan out of Wake Forest. Duncan not only changed the future of the Spurs, it also changed the path for the Boston Celtics who had the best odds to get the No. 1 pick in 1997. The Spurs drafted Duncan and the Celtics drafted Chancey Billups and Ron Mercer.

For the Spurs, Duncan has led the franchise to four NBA titles while Boston went on to win one in this decade of the NBA with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

But what if fortunes were flipped? What if Boston won the 1997 NBA Draft and selected Duncan? OrlandoMagic.com showed exactly how TD would look in a Boston uniform had he signed with the guys in green. Needless to say, Duncan in a Boston uniform doesn't look that bad but a black and silver jersey is more his speed.

Check out Celtic Duncan and my advanced apologies to Celtics fans who might still be smarting over not winning the 1997 Draft.

Tim Duncan, Spurs Helping Reject Absurd Cliché That Defense Does Not Matter in NBA

My wife sat down on the couch, glanced at the TV and caught a glimpse of Tim Duncan‘s incredulous mug making it clear that he disagreed with a foul call.
“He still plays?” she asked. “How old is he now, like 50?”
That is patently absurd, of course. Duncan’s not a day over 49. And after he scored just six points in the Spurs’ victory over the Grizzlies in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Sunday, the casual observer might assume Duncan has lost a step.
Duncan’s importance to the machine-like Spurs no longer rests in his point total, however. At his actual age of 37 (and 25 days), Duncan long ago stopped being a dominant scorer. But he is still capable of being one of the top defensive big men in the game, and while his teammates buried Memphis beneath a 3-point barrage, Duncan’s defense was as big a reason as any for San Antonio’s 22-point win.
Zach Randolph, who put Blake Griffin, David Lee and others through the grinder in the first two rounds, was held to just two points ...

Video: Tony Parker shuts down Memphis in Game 1

The San Antonio Spurs made the Memphis Grizzlies look like the overachievers that many pegged them to be on Sunday.
As a whole, they appeared to be lethargic and in-over-their-head as the veteran Spurs group cruised to a 105-83 Game 1 victory in the Western Conference finals.
Tony Parker generated 20 points and dished out nine assists.

NBA prospect refuses to give Spurs his number

With the NBA Draft less than a month away, prospects are willing to do near anything to impress their future employers.

That is everyone except former Ohio State star Deshaun Thomas who refused to give the San Antonio Spurs his phone number.

"I can't go around giving it out to everyone," Thomas told Ohio.com. "Now if they want to draft me, I'd be happy to give it to them."

Thomas said teams asked him plenty of challenging questions at the combine, but he said that the most "interesting" was the fact the Spurs' first question was for his cell phone number and email address.

The Spurs did manage to get Thomas' email address out of him, so at least if the Western Conference's second best team wants to contact him about a contract, they will be right next to the spam mail in the inbox.

Prospect wouldn't give Spurs his phone number

Deshaun Thomas is in the same boat as many other prospects right now. With the NBA Draft looming a little over a month away, the former Ohio State Buckeye is doing everything he can to convince teams to select him. But one thing he isn't doing is giving away his cell phone number freely.According to Ohio.com, Thomas was pretty stingy when asked by the San Antonio Spurs for his digits. In fact, he wasn't willing to give his number out at all. Here's the scoop:Thomas said teams asked him plenty of difficult and interesting questions during his interview process at the combine. But the most interesting, he said, was the fact the Spurs’ first question was for his cell phone number and his e-mail address. He gave them the e-mail, but not the phone number.“I can’t go around giving it out to everyone,” Thomas said Thursday with a laugh. “Now if they want to draft me, I’d be happy to give it to them.”I'm no expert, but I've got to believe this move by Thomas probably did...

Screaming Spurs fan identified?

As thrilling as Game 1 between the Spurs and Warriors was Monday night, it came with a price. As the Spurs began their historic comeback late in the fourth quarter and the game progressed into multiple overtimes, those of us watching the TNT broadcast at home had the tremendous misfortune of being introduced to a distracting shrieking Spurs fan who would not shut up. A sampling: It went was like that for at least 45 minutes. Was somebody being stabbed? Tortured? Giving birth? All were valid possibilities until none turned out to be reported by the news. By the next morning however, the attention shifted to figuring out who this crazy lady—or shrill guy—was. And thanks to yeoman’s work by KENS-TV’s Dillon Collier, we apparently we have our suspect. Clearly shameless 23-year-old dental assistant Val Garcia has stepped forward claiming to be the person who drove America to shoving sharpened pencils into our ears: Woman saying she’s Screaming Spurs Lady is a 23-yr-old dental ...
