Remembering That George Karl Was A Major Jerk

On Monday, Ed wrote a nostalgic piece on Shawn Kemp and the Seattle Supersonics taking on Charles Barkley and Phoenix Suns 20 years ago in a Western Conference Finals for the ages. As I’m sure you all know, those 1993 Sonics were coached by none other than current Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl.
George Karl of the Denver Nuggets named NBA’s coach of the year

The NBA announced on May 8 that George Karl of the Denver Nuggets has been named the coach of the year for the 2012/13 season. The 61-year-old Karl, who has been an NBA head coach for 25 years, won his first award after leading his team to 57 wins during the regular season for a franchise record. The Nuggets went 57-25 this season with the league’s fourth-best record. Karl’s all-time record now stands at 1,131-756. He’s also 80-105 in the postseason.
Karl thanked his players, trainers, assistant coaches and everybody else in the Nuggets organization when he was awarded the Red Auerbach Trophy. He said he hopes everybody realizes that the trophy was earned by the entire team and not just one person. He admitted that it’s a trophy he’s proud of and one he’s always wanted to win and it was a very emotional experience when he found out he had.
The Nuggets had a workmanlike team this season without any all stars on the roster. The club also saw several of its top players go down with inj...

Ujiri 'Optimistic' Iguodala Will Return To Nuggets

Andre Iguodala will likely opt out of his player option this offseason and become a free agent, but the Denver Nuggets have been adamant about their desire to re-sign him.
When asked about Iguodala possibly returning to the Nuggets, Masai Ujiri said on Thursday: “I’m very optimistic that things will go well. … We want him back.”
Iguodala averaged 18 points, eight rebounds and 5.3 assists in the Nuggets' six-game series loss to the Golden State Warriors in the first round.

Nuggets rack up another management award

Denver Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri will win the NBA's Executive of the Year, making a coaching and general manager sweep for the organization after George Karl took home the Coach of the Year Award earlier this week.

For the Nuggets, it is a just regular season award for finishing third in the Western Conference and for being perhaps the best team in the league this year without a "superstar." Andre Iguodala was the team's only All Star this year, yet the Nuggets were one of the tougher teams to beat in the league -- particularly at home.

Both Karl and Ujiri put together a team that was difficult to defend because so many guys could beat you. Ty Lawson, Andre iguodala, Danilo Gallinari and others took turns leading the team in scoring and filling their roles.

That of course was in the regular season. The award is a regular season award voted on by the executive's peers, but the shortcomings from this roster became apparent in a six-game loss...

NBA Season Wrap Up: Denver Nuggets

Every NBA fan knows the feeling. 29 teams' fans go through it every year. That moment when your team's season is over is one of the worst feelings of the whole year and the only way to escape the loss is to look forward to the upcoming season, even though it's several months away.

So as teams are eliminated, we will look at their 2012-13 season in review, what went wrong, and what to know moving forward. Now that the second round is in full swing, let's get to know the first round's casualties.

The Denver Nuggets:

Denver won 57 games this season and earned the third seed in the West. The only reason this season could be considered a disappointment is that they got upset by Golden State in the first round. But statistically, this team was right where it wants to be.

Their Offensive Rating was fifth best in the NBA, their pace was second best, they led the NBA in points per game, and their Defense Rating was 11th best in the association. But despi...

Nuggets Confident Of Chances To Re-Sign Iguodala

Andre Iguodala will be a free agent this offseason, making his situation the biggest priority for the Denver Nuggets to resolve.
Iguodala was acquired by the Nuggets last August in a four-team trade.
“Andre was a great fit, we felt,” general manager Masai Ujiri said. “He brings every aspect of the game to the table, be it defending, passing, leadership and scoring sometimes. For us, he grew with the team. I think he saw that. He’s a good priority for us. We’re definitely excited and I think Andre was excited the way he gelled with the team. We’ve had good conversations with him and we’ll continue to have those conversations. We feel confident. We feel confident with where generally everything is.”

Nuggets Aren't Contemplating Parting Ways With George Karl

After a first round exit out of a 57-win Denver Nuggets team, George Karl's future has been discussed, but the organization fully supports the head coach.
"George is under contract for next year. At this point in time, we haven't really given any thought to making any change whatsoever," Nuggets president Josh Kroenke said. "As we do at the end of every season, we'll have internal meetings and George will obviously be a major part of them. We won 57 games and in my mind, he should hands down be the NBA coach of the year.
"We'll all put our heads together and try to figure out what happened (in the playoffs) and why it happened. We were without our second-leading scorer, and some benefit of the doubt should be given to a coach with well over 1,000 wins without one of his leading scorers (Danilo Gallinari) in the playoffs."
Karl's Nuggets set a franchise record in wins this season, but they weren't themselves against the No. 6...

Report: Nuggets Players Were Calling Stephen Curry Soft

The Denver Nuggets were down 3-1 the other night, and tactfully employed their version of the Jordan rules on Warriors point guard Stephen Curry during game 5.
Denver roughed Curry up at every turn of the game. If he drove the lane, came off a screen, anything Curry did resulted in him being bumped, pushed and manhandled by the Nuggets.
The San Jose Mercury is reporting that with the rough play came taunts from Nuggets players that Curry was “soft.”
And where there are on-court taunts and messages sent, including, according to Warriors sources, Nuggets players repeatedly telling Curry that he was a soft player.
I don’t believe Stephen Curry is soft, and I expect him to go off tonight from every part of the building.

Stephen Curry Has Confrontation With Nuggets Fan After Loss to Denver (Video)

Stephen Curry has gotten a lot of attention in the first round of the NBA playoffs for his high-scoring ways. However, after losing to the Denver Nuggets 107-100 in Game 5 on Tuesday, Curry was getting a different kind of attention.
On his way to the locker room, Curry told the San Jose Mercury News that a fan “said something stupid” to him, prompting Curry to tell that fan to “shut up.” From the vantage point of television cameras, Curry started to walk down the tunnel, then came back towards the court, pointing at the fan. A teammate intercepted Curry and a security guard said something to the fan.
Curry, who finished with just 15 points, also complained about the Nuggets’ physical play, saying he thought he was targeted.
“I’m going through the paint minding mind my own business and they’re coming out of nowhere trying to throw elbows,” Curry said. “They’ve got a hit out on me, I don’t know what it is.”
Check out a video of the altercation between Curry and the unidentified fan bel

McGee hides playoff tickets at Marshalls

McGee is a strange guy. I think he saw this in a movie. With that being said, he does get Dollarnaire credit for going to Marshalls. If there are any Nuggets fans in the San Francisco area, you still have time to make it to Marshalls to collect your tickets. RT @javalemcgee34 FOR THE FANS GAMETIME WE NEED ALL THE SUPPORT! #NUGGETS #15TOGO #TURNINGPHONEOFF twitter.com/JaValeMcGee34/… — JaVale McGee (@JaValeMcGee34) April 28, 2013 More likely, a Golden State fan will find the tickets and root against the Nuggets, but it is the thought that counts. You can also pick up a nice polo for $29.99 and some white tees for $9.99. If you prefer to go old school, I am sure there is some ECKO and Roc-a-Wear gear available as well.

McGee, mother land reality show

Are you ready to see Denver Nuggets JaVale McGee on reality TV? Well get ready, the Nuggets big man and his mother, former WNBA player Pamela McGee will be featured on Oprah’s network, OWN, in a new reality show about the relationship between the two titled “Millionaire Mama’s Boy.” You read right. Check the details: Millionaire Mama’s Boy follows the relationship between former WNBA basketball star Pamela McGee and her 25-year-old son, Denver Nuggets center JaVale McGee. The Sony TV series is executive produced by Pete Tartaglia and Amy Palmer Robertson. I am so HERE for this. Let me explain why. 1. How many times have we seen a former WNBA player and their NBA son together on TV? 2. The personalities of JaVale and Pam; he sort of goofy but extremely intelligent, Pam very intense, will be an interesting dynamic to play out on air. 3. There are so many athletes who have dominant mothers in their lives, I’m curious to see if they will showcase how this plays out with his love life a...
