THE GOOD: FIRST FIVE MINUTES.
This is what this Hoosiers team can be. Running the break efficiently, not letting teams get set up on D, pushing the pace, getting controlled buckets in transition with Jeremiah Rivers and Verdell Jones leading the charge. It actually looked slow to me at points, because IU wasn’t trying to do [...]

Indiana Self-Reports Another Phone Call Violation, This One by Tom Crean

Coach Crean owes IU fans an explanation for a report Tuesday night at IndyStar.com that says the basketball program self-reported an extra recruiting call made by Tom Crean and his coaching staff back in October. In the grand scheme of things, the violation was minor, and is relatively routine in the world of college basketball, but because of IU's recent history with illegal phone calls, it's a little bit bigger deal in Bloomington than it might be elsewhere.
Tom Crean Cancels Father/Son Camp to Attend NCAA Hearings

As Indiana prepares for it's NCAA infractions hearing in Seattle on Friday, head basketball coach Tom Crean had to cancel a father/son camp this weekend so that he could make the trip, adding to the difficult start for the first year coach

Indiana University faces sanctions for the recruiting violations alleged against former head coach Kelvin Sampson. Crean and eight other Indiana officials will be in Seattle, but the group will not include IU president Michael McRobbie. He'll be participating via teleconference because he'll be attending an IU Foundation board meeting.

What kind of message does it send that McRobbie will not be in attendance? Indiana basketball is a major part of his university and it stands to take a big hit from the NCAA. It would make sense to defend your school in person and show that you are taking these allegations seriously.

We understand that universities are educational facilities first and not athletic organizations, which makes the IU Foundation a priority under normal circumstances. However, considering McRobbie had a major hand in bringing on these violations, he should take a bigger part in resolving them.

Hopefully Crean will get these issues behind him because he has to dig this program out of a big hole. With all of the off-the-court problems he's facing to begin his tenure, Indiana fans need to exercise patience for a couple of years.

The sources say that Bassett and Ellis were required to run at 6am the day after the two missed an arranged meeting with coach Dakich and never showed.

According to ESPN.com's Andy Katz, Tom Crean has been hired to clean up the mess in Bloomington.

The NCAA is accusing Kelvin Sampson and Indiana of five major violations, which could result in postseason ineligibility or Sampson's dismissal.
Thank You Jesus

This post only has meaning for IU fans, but it's a huge deal for us. The trustees of Indiana University have agreed that IU needs a new basketball arena to replace the old, crappy Assembly Hall. We couldn't be happier about this. IU won four of its five national titles while using Assembly Hall as its home court.

Yes, the building has a lot of history. Yes, IU treasures its basketball tradtions and history. Face it people, the building is a dump, the sightlines are terrible, and honestly, there aren't enough seats. The most ironic thing about Assembly Hall is that, despite the tradtion and history in that building, Assembly Hall isn't even that old. It was built in 1970 and it's hard to believe that anyone approved its setup even then. As loud and supportive as Indiana fan is, the walls along the sides of the court and the ultra-steep stands eliminate more of the homecourt advantage than people think. There's also not a student section. Christ, even Purdue has a student section, and they can't do anything right.
