Russell Westbrook, DJ White & Seattle agree to deal

The Seattle SuperSonics and draft picks Russell Westbrook and DJ White have agreed to contracts today as the team begins its move to Oklahoma City for the 2008-09 season. Westbrook, who wasn't even the best player on his team last season (UCLA), somehow vaulted himself up the draft ladder to the 4th position in the draft. DJ White was taken 29th in the draft, even though he was in contention for Big 10 POY. I don't get this draft, but Russell Westbrook really made a career for himself in the NCAA Tournament, and even more specifically the Final Four game versus Memphis.

Should IU block Jordan Crawford from transferring to Kentucky?

Besides Eli Holman, Crawford is the only player that left the program willingly, so Indiana has some decisions to make on his situation. It is not uncommon for a school to place restrictions on a transfer, but there have been cases in which a student athlete has fought the restrictions in the media and the school eventually caved to avoid the bad publicity.

Tom Crean Cancels Father/Son Camp to Attend NCAA Hearings

As Indiana prepares for it's NCAA infractions hearing in Seattle on Friday, head basketball coach Tom Crean had to cancel a father/son camp this weekend so that he could make the trip, adding to the difficult start for the first year coach

Indiana University faces sanctions for the recruiting violations alleged against former head coach Kelvin Sampson. Crean and eight other Indiana officials will be in Seattle, but the group will not include IU president Michael McRobbie. He'll be participating via teleconference because he'll be attending an IU Foundation board meeting.

What kind of message does it send that McRobbie will not be in attendance? Indiana basketball is a major part of his university and it stands to take a big hit from the NCAA. It would make sense to defend your school in person and show that you are taking these allegations seriously.

We understand that universities are educational facilities first and not athletic organizations, which makes the IU Foundation a priority under normal circumstances. However, considering McRobbie had a major hand in bringing on these violations, he should take a bigger part in resolving them.

Hopefully Crean will get these issues behind him because he has to dig this program out of a big hole. With all of the off-the-court problems he's facing to begin his tenure, Indiana fans need to exercise patience for a couple of years.

Ebanks to West Virginia, Riley to Georgetown

One time Indiana signee, Devin Ebanks, committed and signed his letter of intent with West Virginia and Coach Bob Huggins, this morning. He picked West Virginia over Memphis, which was a close second, Rutgers, and Texas. Ebanks is considered one of the top recruits of the 2008 class.

Devin Ebanks requested to be released from his letter of intent after hearing the news that now former head coach Kelvin Sampson had been fired due to breaking NCAA rules, specifically recruiting.

DaShonte Riley, a class of 2009 center recruit from Michigan, committed to Georgetown over Ohio State, Michigan, State, Kansas, and NC State. He is a 6'10 center who many think is a project and has been offered on size and potential.

Due to his "poor play" during AAU, it caused some teams to back off.

Dan Dakich, who was Indiana's interim coach for the last seven games last season, has been rewarded $185,000 from the school for his troubles. That's over $25,000 a game. Dakich took over for former Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson when Sampson was accused of violating NCAA rules.

Four basketball players leaving Indiana

A day after freshman center Eli Holman announced his intent to transfer vehemently enough that coach Tom Crean had to call the police, Indiana has officially announced that three more players will be leaving Indiana University. Sophomore Armon Bassett and junior Jamarcus Ellis have been dismissed by the team. And junior Deandre Thomas will not return. Have fun playing with only eight players and three returning starters next season Coach Crean. Wait, this sounds familiar...Hoosiers the movie that's it!! Maybe this is a good omen Hoosiers fans!

Indiana freshman center throws tantrum, police called

As if Indiana basketball hasn't been through enough already, Indiana freshman center Eli Holman announced to coach Tom Crean on Thursday he wanted to transfer to another school, then proceeded to throw a tantrum that led to Crean calling the police. "His behavior took me, along with the other people in the office, by surprise," Crean said. "We saw him as a danger to himself and wanted to take precautionary measures to help him." It was first reported that Holman threw a potted plant, but later the secretary clarified it was knocked down as he was leaving. Either way, he doesn't like potted plants...

Let's nix the ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Kevlar, anyone?

The matchups for the ACC/Big Ten challenge were announced on Tax Day this past week. North Carolina will travel to Motown on December 3, 2008, to play the Michigan State Spartans. Ah, there's nothing quite like Detroit in December. The snow. The decorative lights. The hail of bullets…
