Let's nix the ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Kevlar, anyone?

The matchups for the ACC/Big Ten challenge were announced on Tax Day this past week. North Carolina will travel to Motown on December 3, 2008, to play the Michigan State Spartans. Ah, there's nothing quite like Detroit in December. The snow. The decorative lights. The hail of bullets…

Can Bill Carmody Save His Job - His Nine Lives

The beneficiary of the low expectation arroyo that is Northwestern basketball, it is increasingly clear that Carmody will be spared the abattoir and granted a ninth life next season. Will there be more timid mews or a long-awaited roar from Evanston?

Hoopraker looks at the week in Big Ten Basketball, from Wisconsin's methodical sweep of Indiana to the trials of Kelvin Sampson and whether Illinois and Bruce Weber can finally start winning some games.

The Purdue Paragon

Outside the State of Indiana, the names and talents of Robbie Hummel and E'Twaun Moore were not particularly well-known at the season's inception. It was the darlings of Major Media, IU's Eric Gordon and Thad Matta's next great recruiting class led by Kosta Koufos and John Diebler, who received the acclaim rather than Matt Painter's Indiana bred freshman four.

Unlike Super Tuesday, there will be a winner between the Gophers and Wildcats

Over the last 24 hours or so, like many of you, I have been closely following the speculation, prognostication, and spin surrounding "Super Tuesday." Instead of adding to the cacophony of pundits and talking heads, as much as I am tempted (Barack won), I think I'll stick to basketball.

(Sad) State of the State (of Illinois)

For some reason, the state of Illinois has never reached the heights and consistency of the college basketball programs in places like Indiana and North Carolina. But while it certainly doesn't have an NCAA Tournament contender every season, the Land of Lincoln normally has at least a couple of teams in the midst of a good run, which should signal a deep tourney run.

One of my favorite blogs is back up

The former Big *1*0* Tailgate website has moved, and I really enjoyed reading a lot of their stuff since frankly I live in the middle of Big 10 country. The website was facing legal challenges from the suits at the Big Ten conference on copyright infringements on their name.

All of this for a measly blog? Why can't thousands of people get the Big Ten Network, and you want to shut down a blog?

Picks to Play: 11/27

Wisconsin (5-0) @ Duke (6-0)
This game will be a serious wake up call for coach Bo Ryan and the Badgers. Wisconsin has yet to play a decent team this season, with their "biggest" victory coming against the awful Georgia Bulldogs. Duke handled both Marquette and Illinois in the Maui Invitational and has the convenience of playing in front of the most crazed fans in the nation in Krzyzewskiville. Expect for Greg Paulus to pick apart the Badger defense and create wide-open looks for sharpshooters Taylor King and Kyle Singler all night..

Can They Schedule Northwestern Every Night?

With the season winding down, and the Illini in need of wins to get an NCAA Tourney berth, they played their best game of the Big Ten season.

The question is, was it Illinois figuring things out, or does Northwestern just suck that bad?

Battle For the Big Ten Cellar

While there appears to a power sturggle at the top of the Big 10 between Ohio State and Wisconsin, there seems to be a battle of similar magnitude at the bottom. Penn State (1-7) and Northwestern (1-8) lead the charge to be last with Minnesota (3-6) catching up. Minnesota may have shot itself in the foot by winning three straight conference games, but looking at the rest of their record, they could be back in it, especially if Penn St. and Northwestern decide to start winning.
