Presti: Thunder not amnestying Perk

The Oklahoma City Thunder are experiencing the NBA equivalent of First World Problems these days, as they could realistically field a team of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka, a smattering of minimum vets, and still make the Western Conference Finals every year (barring injuries, of course). However, one person definitely not helping in any potential deep playoff run is Kendrick Perkins, the seven-foot thorn in the side of OKC fans (and people who just enjoy watching basketball, in general) who just logged the worst playoff performance in the history of everything. There has been lots of chatter since last off-season about what the Thunder should do with their ineffective big man, and, after a 4-1 exit at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies this past week, the “A” word quickly rose to the top of the solution pile again. Alas, according to Darnell Mayberry, Thunder general manager Sam Presti has no such plans to amnesty their much-maligned center: #bbpBox_33579131382178201...

The Thunder are reportedly keeping Kendrick Perkins

Well this is certainly a head scratcher.

It looks like the Oklahoma City Thunder are going to hold onto Kendrick Perkins. According to Thunder beat writer Darnell Mayberry, Thunder GM Sam Presti recently praised Perkins for about 20 minutes and also said they have no plans to amnesty him.

Sam Presti on the amnesty clause: "We just haven't considered using the provision...We think Perk has a lot of value to our team."— Darnell Mayberry (@DarnellMayberry) May 18, 2013

For those who don't know, the amnesty clause was put in under the latest collective bargaining agreement. It's a provision where teams can essentially get out of bad contracts by waiving players and having their contract come off the salary cap. Here's a link that describes the process pretty well.

Perkins has been the prime candidate for the amnesty clause for a while now, even before his historically bad offseason this year. He can't move like he used to after the knee injury and is st...

Thunder Have No Plans To Amnesty Kendrick Perkins

The Oklahoma City Thunder bowed out to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference semi-finals, and now there are several questions the organizations needs to answer.
The biggest question that needs to be answered is what will the Thunder do with center Kendrick Perkins. Thunder GM Sam Presti commented about Perkins and the idea of amnestying him today via Thunderous Intentions.
Sam Presti on the amnesty clause: “We just haven’t considered using the provision…We think Perk has a lot of value to our team.”
— Darnell Mayberry (@DarnellMayberry) May 18, 2013

I agree with Presti, because it makes no sense to give Perkins a ton of money to just go away. Regardless of how bad a playoffs he had, he still holds value.
Now trading Perkins makes sense and is something that OKC will probably consider, but giving him money to walk, is not a Sam Presti thing.

Thunder May Anticipate 6th Man Role For Reggie Jackson

After sporadic playing time as a rookie last season, Reggie Jackson emerged as a critical guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder and averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists in the playoffs.
With Russell Westbrook set to return next season, the Thunder might be anticipating a sixth man role for Jackson.
“If that's the number that's called,” Jackson said, “I'm doing my best to just be ready for whatever situation I'm thrown into next year.”
“I'm excited about his future, about what he was able to do during the minutes that he had," Brooks added.

Kevin Durant: This season was not wasted

Once again Kevin Durant is being compared to another NBA living legend.
After his Oklahoma City Thunder were booted out of the NBA playoffs by the Memphis Grizzlies, Durant spoke with ESPN and rebutted a certain suggestion that was once made by Kobe Bryant.
Bryant at age 32 stated that any year that did not culminate in a NBA championship ‘ was a wasted year of my life.’
Durant being the league’s current whipping boy as a superstar that can’t win the big ones, not only defended himself, he continued to carve out his own lane as a man.

Russell Westbrook, James Harden haunt OKC

Despite fighting to the end in a series of narrow losses to Memphis, the Oklahoma City Thunder's decision to trade James Harden finally came back to haunt them.Last spring, Kevin Durant spent his time leading the Thunder to the NBA Finals with the help of two co-stars. This season, he was left trying to survive the Memphis Grinders with the help of no co-stars. After claiming the No. 1 seed in the West, OKC became the favorites to make it back and challenge the Miami Heat for the title. Then, the cold move that had little to do with basketball and everything to do with finances come back to haunt them. The Thunder gave away their ability to survive a Westbrook injury when the traded away Harden.''We lost the guy (Westbrook) that has the keys to our car.'' That’s the way Kevin Martindescribes it. The Thunder's offense fizzled without Westbrook's scoring punch and ability to create shots for teammates. To make matters worse, they drew the Grizzlies and their league-best defense

Thunder season fades fast after Westbrook injury

A season filled with championship hopes came to a quicker-than-expected conclusion for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

A chance collision with Houston's Patrick Beverley knocked All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook out for the rest of the postseason, and the Thunder never recovered. Kevin Durant tried filling the void almost single-handedly, but even the three-time scoring champion couldn't carry that heavy of a load.

After getting to the NBA Finals a year earlier, Oklahoma City's season ended in the Western Conference semifinals with a five-game loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Durant said Thursday that every great team and player goes through tough times. The goal is still to win an NBA title.

Said Durant: ''I'm not satisfied just being in this league and losing.''

The Memphis Grizzlies eliminated the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games on Wednesday night, but it was the OKC fans that really won. Check out the amazing show of support from the Thunder faithful who stuck around to still chant and cheer on their team well after the final buzzer sounded. They probably also realize that they will have two very motivated 25 year-olds next year in Durant and Westbrook. [FTW] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Tony Allen gets technical for tossing shirt

During the third quarter of tonight's game 5 match-up between the Grizzlies and the Thunder, former Celtic Tony Allen accidentally flung a blue warm-up jersey from the sidelines while OKC's Derek Fisher launched a corner shot. The basket didn't go in, but the officials counted it and penalized Allen with a technical foul. The chain of events was part of a 15-4 Thunder run. However, as I am typing this post, there are about 3 minutes left to the game and the Grizzlies have a 12 point lead, so luckily for TA, his mishap will probably not affect the outcome of the game and Memphis will move on to the Western Conference Finals (unless OKC makes a miracle happen in the next few minutes). h/t: Ball Don't Lie blog

Thunder left wondering 'What if?' this season

Every game has been close. Every game has been decided in the last five minutes.

By all accounts, the Thunder and the Grizzlies are comparable and evenly matched.

It's a 3-1 Memphis and it could be the other way around. Which is fitting, because for the Thunder, it's a "What-If" kind of finish to a season that fairly recently didn't require a question at all.

Game 5 is Wednesday in Oklahoma City, and it could be the final time we hear, "What If Russell Westbrook would have been healthy."

And while that remains the most-compelling and most-topical question facing the Thunder, really there's a series of issues and questions related directly and indirectly to Westbrook that are also worth examining.

And those are the questions that will determine if the Thunder will get more than just one more game before their season ends.

Before the Westbrook injury, the only question was whether the Thunder would have enough to get past San Antonio and figure out a way to solve Miami

Kevin Durant Wears Seattle Supersonics Hat During Oklahoma City Thunder Practice (Photo)

Seattle fans were pretty bummed out when the Supersonics left in 2008, and they are in a bad mood again now that a bid to move the Sacramento Kings up north has run into roadblocks with the NBA.
They may not ever get over the sting of seeing Kevin Durant play in Oklahoma City, where he has blossomed into one of the league’s brightest stars for the Thunder, but at least Durant remembers where he came from. Durant arrived at practice on Monday rocking the green and gold he wore for his first season as a pro. His retro Sonics snapback hat reportedly caused some murmurs as he fiddled with his iPhone.
Check out Durant’s fashion statement in the tweet below.

Rapper: OKC can't use my music

One of the biggest stars in music today is aggravated with a certain NBA playoff team choosing to play his music to pump up their home fans. Seattle based rapper Macklemore was informed by a Twitter follower that the Oklahoma City Thunder was playing his latest hit, "Can't Hold Us", to excite the home fans in the arena. Macklemore's response was less than enthusiastic... RT @coug123: So apparently the OKC blunder are using @macklemore 'Can't hold us' as a song to hype up the crowd in their arena — Macklemore (@macklemore) May 13, 2013 The song is a huge hit, just reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It has over 25 million views on YouTube. It's got a rhythm that would surely make it a crowd favorite in arenas and stadiums around the country - maybe not on the level of Seven Nation Army, but we're dying for some new stadium tracks. And I'm sure Macklemore would love to hear it being played all around the country... just not fo...

Durant: 'I can do a lot more'

Kevin Durant knows the Oklahoma City Thunder are in trouble. With Russell Westbrook out, they are not a championship-level team. They are trailing the Grizzlies 2-1 in their Western Conference semifinals, and Durant is playing his skinny butt off, but he is just one man.

He has chosen not to look at it this way. He has chosen to look at his performance -- he is averaging 34.0 points, 10.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.6 steals in 44.3 minutes since Westbrook went down -- and suggest it could be better.

"I can do a lot more," Durant told The Oklahoman Sunday. "It's always things you can do more. I talk to one of my good friends and he said no matter how good you're playing you always can do more.

"That's how I look at it. I just got to find ways to help them out and put them in great positions and continue to just be a vocal leader, a positive leader on the bench and every single time down the court and we'll be fine."

Now that's obviously nonsense. Unless you ar

Kevin Durant needs Thunderous performance to tie series

via Espn

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been the projected frontrunners for the Western Conference title since the start of the season. They have not disappointed, finishing as the best in the West. They were expected to breeze through their first and second round rivals, but that all changed when Russell Westbrook was lost for the season. The resiliency of the entire Thunder team will be tested, and Kevin Durant’s offensive prowess will be pushed to its limits, and maybe beyond.
per Espn

Kevin Durant has done more of everything for the Oklahoma City Thunder since Russell Westbrook was lost for the rest of the season with a knee injury after Game 2 of the Thunder’s first round series against the Houston Rockets.
He’s shot more, played more, scored more and facilitated more.
But with the Thunder backed up against another wall, trailing the Grizzlies 2-1 heading into Monday night’s Game 4 in Memphis, Durant vowed there was still more to come.
“I can do a lot more. There’s always ...
