Sloan Could Rejoin Jazz As Consultant

Jerry Sloan could return to the Utah Jazz as a consultant, two years after he resigned as coach.
"If there’s something out there that’s right for both parties, we would welcome a relationship with Jerry," Jazz president Randy Rigby said. "The Utah Jazz have great love and respect for him."
Sloan wouldn’t want to be seen as getting in the way of Tyrone Corbin.
"When we talked about getting him seats to the games, he was very sensitive about where they were located," Rigby said. "He didn’t want to be too close to the floor. He did not want to portray to Tyrone that he was interfering. That speaks volumes about Jerry Sloan, that he’s sensitive to something like that."

Jerry Sloan considers the Bucks

via USA Today

There are a lot of great coaches who are up for grabs. There are also a lot of teams looking around. Coaching in the NBA is not just about capacity, it’s also about having the right fit. Jerry Sloan has found that right fit in Utah, en route to the longest coaching tenure in the NBA. He will not coach for just any team, as he is known to be strict and high on discipline. His return seems imminent, but could that be with the Milwaukee Bucks?

Per USA Today

In the category of unemployed Hall of Fame coaches, Phil Jackson has been capturing the large majority of the spotlight in recent weeks.
But while it remains to be seen if the former Lakers and Bulls coach will re-enter the NBA anytime soon, another member of this rarest of clubs may be getting closer to making his return: Jerry Sloan.
According to two people with knowledge of the situation, the former Utah Jazz coach who resigned abruptly in Feb. 2011 has already met with the Milwaukee Bucks about their vacant c...

Sloan could return to coaching with Bucks

Since Jerry Sloan abruptly left the Utah Jazz after 23 seasons in February 2011, his name has come up as a possible candidate for a couple of head coaching positions, but Sloan has always withdrawn because it was not the right fit.

The 71-year-old Hall of Famer is carefully choosing the team that could entice him out of retirement, and who can blame him?

Well it is starting to look like the right fit could be with the Milwaukee Bucks. Sloan has interviewed with the team and is reportedly being seriously considered.

The Bucks started this season with Scott Skiles as their head coach. Skiles left the team in what was called a “mutual decision” and was replaced with assistant Jim Boylan. After making the playoffs with a sub-.500 record, the Bucks decided they were not going to keep Boylan around, so the coaching search began.

If Sloan is going to take the job, he is going to have a project on his hands.

The Bucks have a lot of drama in the locker room and some pretty big egos...

Report: Jerry Sloan Under Consideration for Milwaukee Bucks’ Coaching Position

Jerry Sloan has been out of coaching since 2011, when he resigned in the middle of his 23rd season as head coach of the Utah Jazz. At the time of his resignation, he was the longest-tenured head coach in major American pro sports, but despite his name coming up in numerous rumors since then, Sloan so far has not found a job on another team’s bench.
That could soon change. The Milwaukee Bucks reportedly consider Sloan a “serious candidate” for their head coaching gig, making the Bucks the fourth team in the last two years to be connected with the 71-year-old coach. Sloan would replace interim coach Jim Boylan, who took over after Scott Skiles and the team parted ways in January.
Sloan’s 1,221 career coaching wins are the third-most in NBA history. He coached the Jazz to two NBA Finals and six Western Conference Finals, most recently in 2007 with Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer.

Report: Bucks Meet With Jerry Sloan for Head Coaching Position

Per USA Today Sports, the Milwaukee Bucks have met with Jerry Sloan for its head coaching position.
According to two people with knowledge of the situation, the former Utah Jazz coach who resigned abruptly in Feb. 2011 has already met with the Milwaukee Bucks about their vacant coaching position and is being seriously considered. The people spoke to USA TODAY Sports the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the coaching search.
This is far from a sure thing for Sloan, as the Bucks have apparently met with numerous coaching candidates such as Nate McMillan and Houston assistant Kelvin Sampson, since firing interim coach Jim Boylan after the team was swept in the playoffs by the Miami Heat.
Sloan is said to be very eager to get back into coaching.

Jazz Host Myck Kabongo, Nate Wolters For Pre-Draft Workout

The Utah Jazz worked out point guards Myck Kabongo and Nate Wolters on Saturday in preparation for the NBA draft.
None of the Utah’s point guards from last season — Mo Williams, Jamaal Tinsley or Earl Watson — is under contract for next year.
"Utah does need a point guard, and everybody is aware of that," Kabongo said. "[So] I’m excited to come out here. Obviously the history with John Stockton is here. And a lot of [other] great guards have come through. So it’s a pleasure to be here."
Said Wolters: "My agent and I thought this would be a good fit. ... We’re going to a lot of workouts [but] to get one before the combine is nice — just to have one under my belt."

Utah Jazz: Regular Season Review and Awards

Utah Jazz: Regular Season Review and Awards
By Mike Elworth
Record: 43-41: 9th in West
Review: The Utah Jazz failed to make the playoffs on the final day of the season, but based on talent and the way their roster was assembled, they shouldn’t have been close, so it is safe to say they overachieved. They had an incredible frontcourt, with Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap, Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter, but other than Gordon Hayward, they had nothing consistent at point guard and on the perimeter. For that reason they missed out on the playoffs and the fact that they collapsed in the final 20 games. Now Millsap and Jefferson are free agents so their future is in doubt.
MVP: Al Jefferson: 17.8 points, 9.2 rebounds
- Once again Jefferson was their top player, their leading scorer and rebounder and the focus of their offense. He is an elite post scorer and rebounder, but once again has proven that he cannot be the best player on a team with title aspirations. Will he even be in Utah next yea...

Nets targeting Jackson, Sloan?

The Brooklyn Nets reached the postseason for the first time since the 2007 season after suffering through 3-straight seasons of under 25 wins, including a league worst 70 losses just four seasons ago. The season, by most standards, would be considered a success, and it happened with an interim coach in PJ Carlesimo. However, a loss in the first round in seven games to a Chicago Bulls team decimated by injuries was not good enough for Russian billionaire-owner Mikhail Prokhorov. Carlesimo was fired over the weekend, and GM Billy King has been given instructions to shoot high in the coaching search. Those names include legendary coach Phil Jackson, and former long-time Jazz coach Jerry Sloan, according to a report in the NY Post. Jackson has reportedly stated that he is ready to return to coaching, but is in the process of consulting with the Pistons for their head coach opening. Anyone would obviously love to land Jackson, but it often is reported that the only two landing spots in h...

Kevin O'Connor Denies Report He's Stepping Down As Jazz Exec

Kevin O'Connor denied a report on Wednesday that said he will step down in his position within the Utah Jazz's management.
Asked if he was stepping down after 14 years as an executive with the organization, O’Connor said, "Not true, and I have no comment."
Salt Lake City CBS affiliate KUTV Ch. 2 said O’Connor, the team’s executive vice president of basketball operations, would leave the Jazz this summer and hand all of his executive duties over to general manager Dennis Lindsey.
O’Connor sold his Holladay home on April 17, the same day the Jazz’s season ended with an 86-70 loss in Memphis.
The Jazz have missed the playoffs in two of the past three seasons.

Uncertainty surrounds Jazz because of free agents

Soon-to-be free agents Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap, Mo Williams and Randy Foye left the Utah Jazz arena together Thursday afternoon, walking into an uncertain future less than 24 hours after their season came to an abrupt end.

The Jazz missed the playoffs for the second time in three years following Wednesday night's loss in Memphis. Yet unlike years past, an unprecedented two-thirds of the players have expiring contracts.

While most expressed an interest in returning, all acknowledged the team could have an entirely different look next season. As many as nine players could be gone, including starters Jefferson, Millsap, Williams and Foye.

MJ's flu actually food poisoning?

You all know the story by now, but to refresh your memory, the Bulls were in a dogfight in the 1997 NBA Finals with the Utah Jazz. The series was tied 2-2 and the Jazz had all the momentum after winning games 3 and 4. Jordan gets sick the day before the game 5, to the point he can’t walk. Bulls trainers say there is no way he can play the next day. Jordan wills himself out of bed, looks visibly ill, but starts for the Bulls in Game 5. He hits a big 3 point shot late in the game to help seal the victory. He plays 44 minutes and has a stat line of 38 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. It is considered one of the greatest clutch performances of all-time. The Bulls would end up winning the championship in Game 6. It was always assumed Jordan just caught a random stomach virus, but according to his trainer Tim Grover, he was poisoned by someone in Utah. Here is his story. We were in Park City, Utah, up in a hotel. Room service stopped at like nine o’clock. He got hungry and we really couldn

Utah Jazz: Al Jefferson to Sign or Not to Sign

Everyone has been talking all year about whether the Jazz will resign Al Jefferson or not. I have heard reasons why and why not. However, I have not heard what anyone thinks Al Jefferson should do. In the end there are two sides of every contract. So should Al Jefferson sign with the Jazz if he receives an offer from the Jazz? And what is the one reason that should have the Jazz offering Jefferson a new contract?
So, what goes into players decision to sign with a team? Well, I googled that very question I found 3 obvious points: family, possible new teammates, and the coaching staff.
Coaching Staff
When looking at the Utah Jazz coaching staff I sure would love to know what the Jazz players think. Based on the exit interviews from last year, CJ Miles and Raja Bell would say there is a lack of communication of what a player’s role is with this team. Unfortunately with the many rotations Tyrone Corbin has used it is hard for me to argue that point. Also, with a young core of players th...

Jazz gift to season ticket holders: Waffle irons?

Season ticket holders typically receive a gift from the team every year that they renew their seats, and the Utah Jazz have decided to go above and beyond for the 2012-2013 season. According to Utah Jazz Nation, Jazz season ticket holders who attend Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers can stop by the fan relations office and pick up an exclusive waffle iron that is branded with the team’s logo. Does it get any better than this? The only thing I can think of that might be slightly better than a waffle iron is this bobblehead that the Oakland A’s will be giving out this season, but it’s close. If I was a Jazz fan I’d be pumped. Via Reddit NBA The post Utah Jazz giving season ticket holders team-branded waffle irons (Picture) appeared first on Larry Brown Sports.
