Can Sid carry the Penguins on his back?

Can Sidney Crosby carry the team like Evgeni Malkin did in 2008 when Sid was out with a high ankle sprain? In those 21 games, the Pens were 11-6-4 and Malkin had 14 goals and 22 assists and his game picked up considerably. I have yet to see this from Crosby playing without Malkin. Do you think he has it in him to take the team on his shoulders as Malkin did in 2008?

Penguins redrawing blueprint for success

Ryan Whitney was Pittsburgh’s second-best puck-moving defenseman behind Sergei Gonchar last season. Rob Scuderi and Hal Gill formed the shutdown pair that saw heavy action in the Stanley Cup final against the likes of Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Marian Hossa, and Johan Franzen.

Minnesota's Sykora is out due to concussion

Minnesota Wild right wing Petr Sykora has a concussion and is out indefinitely.

Sykora took a hit to the head in Saturday's win over the Dallas Stars. In his first season with the Wild, Sykora has already missed six games because of a groin injury. He has two goals and one assist in 10 games.

Also, the team says defenseman Kim Johnsson has been cleared to play again after missing the last seven games because of an unspecified upper body injury.

What's going on with Eric Godard?

Q: What's going on with Eric Godard? I am a little confused on his ice time. He has been known as an enforcer and that's his job, but he hasn't been fighting and has recently played against some of the NHL's heavyweights. I am not saying, and do not think, he should fight every game, but my question is, do you think if that's the case that the fourth line would be better off with Craig Adams, Mike Rupp and Chris Bourque, or even other, more offensive-minded players?

Pens' Malkin, NHL scoring champ, out 2-3 weeks

NHL scoring champion Evgeni Malkin will be lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins for two to three weeks because of a strained right shoulder.

Malkin has been attempting to play through the injury, but coach Dan Bylsma says the team decided to rest the center. The star Russian would miss seven games if he is out two weeks and 10 games if he is out three.

Malkin is tied with Sidney Crosby for the team lead in scoring with 14 points - four goals and 10 assists in 12 games.
