Missouri and Oklahoma Looks To Be The Class Of The Big 12 In 2008

If Missouri is going to prove that they can win the Big 12 this year, their defense will need to step up and be more physical. Seems that the spring practices were designed to do just that. I think it will be Mizzou and OU in the Big 12 title game in December.

Wouldya: Josh Howard for Shawn Marion?

BLOGGER'S NOTE: Big Ed Sefko came up with 15 deals that might make some sense if/when the Mavs shop Josh Howard. Most would need other players involved to make the salaries work, but don't sweat the small stuff. Just consider whether you'd get rid of J-Ho in return for the player(s) mentioned. We'll focus on a deal per day.

WHY IT WORKS: Miami can sign and trade the oft-disgruntled star and get a player whom Pat Riley drooled over in the past. Mavs would have to throw in extra, substantial pieces.
WHY IT DOESN'T: The Mavericks are old already and Marion, 30, is older than Howard.

Forget for a moment about the other pieces the Mavs would have to include the make the salaries work. Let's just focus on Howard-for-Marion.

Ex-Raiders Star Kenny Stabler Arrested On Third DUI Charge

ROBERTSDALE, Ala. -- Police in Robertsdale say former NFL football star and Crimson Tide broadcaster Kenny Stabler was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police said the Foley, Ala., native was pulled over for a traffic violation on Alabama 59 and charged with DUI.
Stabler, according to authorities, was taken into custody early Sunday at about 1 a.m.
Robertsdale assistant police chief Brian Middleton said Stabler posted $1,000 bond and was released from jail.
Stabler, who played quarterback for the Oakland Raiders from 1970-79, the Houston Oilers from 1980-81 and New Orleans Saints from 1982-84, has two previous DUI charges, stemming from arrests in 2001 and 1995.

Jackson Asserts Himself With Vikings

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Darrell Bevell often likes to say that a quarterback shows the most improvement between his first year of playing and his second.

If the Minnesota Vikings are going to fulfill their expectations of contending for the NFC North title and making a deep run in the playoffs, they need their offensive coordinator to be right about Tarvaris Jackson.

The former second-round draft pick out of Division I-AA Alabama State is entering his third year in the Vikings' offense, and his second as starting quarterback. Bevell said the difference is noticeable.

"I think he's better in every area from this time last year to where he is now," Bevell said Saturday at the team's minicamp. "He's made great improvements, and that's a credit to him and how hard he's wanted to work to get better."

Former Clerk Gets 6-month Term For Stadium Attack Hoax

NEWARK, N.J. -- A former grocery clerk must serve six months in federal prison for making bogus Internet postings warning of terrorist attacks against NFL stadiums, a judge ruled Thursday.

Jake Brahm must also serve six months under house arrest following his prison term and repay $26,750 incurred in extra security costs at two of the stadiums.

U.S. District Judge Jose L. Linares said Brahm, 22, conducted a "sick" hoax.

"People have to know they can't go around posting these things on the Internet," Linares said, adding that it scares the public and can expose weaknesses in security responses.
