Are We Headed for an Interstate Matchup?

With the loss last Saturday by the Ohio State Buckeyes, It looms on the horizon that we could see what many fans around the region would love. A bowl game pitting the Buckeyes against the West Virginia Mountaineers.

I for one would love this because I am sick and tired of hearing the WVU fans whine about we should be this and we should be that. Face it guys, just like OSU did, YOU LOST A GAME! And quit crying about the weak schedule strength of the Buckeyes. When I checked the opponents records stood as follows: WVU 62-61 OSU 69-60

Also looking at the schedule Ohio State's last four opponents are 32-12 right now (with all 4 at 8-3) while the Mountaineers are 25-14 (with two at 5-5 or less). So the Bucknuts have had a much tougher time coming down the wire than the Eers'. Much stiffer competition and more pressure on them to win because of all the national criticism from the press.

I noticed the blown call or non-call Saturday on Illinois second play and RB Daniel Dufrene broke off an 80 yard run to be run down by the Buckeyes DB around the 7 yard line. Dufrene dove for the end zone loosing the ball in mid air. The ball landed and rolled into the end zone, where it was recovered by a OSU player. The official on the side placed the ball at the 3 making no indication of a fumble or motioning the play dead. The replay official must have been asleep up there because there was no review and the Illini scored on the next play. Not making excuses but that's 7 points they really didn't score.

Go Buckeyes, Beat Michigan!

Are You Kidding Me? Leave Bonds Alone!

OK, so we all know the talk surrounding Barry Bonds and his Home Run record setting achievements. Almost everyone is wanting to place an asterisk beside his name, legend and even on the record ball. This is getting crazily out of hand. Not only does he deserve some respect on this issue but overall. He has been a great ambassador of baseball to the kids of this and other countries alike. At no time to my knowledge has Barry every tested positive for these uses. According to him, he "never knowingly used" this stuff.

So what he did, knowingly or unknowingly. It would have been before 2005 when baseball banned the HGH. It would have been when the vast majority of players were taking HGH or something else that at the time was not banned by MLB. So until this ban was put in to place there is really no grounds for using an asterisk next to anyones name or record.

Any now what do have? A player in Cleveland that knowing took HGH, prescribed by a doctor, and a lot of other people knew about it too. Paul Byrd, a starting pitcher for the Indians, was named in conjunction with an ongoing investigation. He came out during the playoffs and admitted to the usage. Reportedly he spent nearly $25,000 from 2002-2005 on the drug and syringes. He did also say it was doctor prescribed for a medical condition. How was he punished for this admitted usage? He was rewarded by Cleveland when picked up his club option for 2008 at $7.5 million. Not a bad punishment I's say.

Barry Bonds is rewarded with boos and the possibility of an asterisk? I just don't understand. It's not like Byrd's 37-29 record and 3.85 ERA over 2002-2005 set the world on fire. So the assumption the using HGH makes you that much better is provable here. Barry was well on his way to consistent producing seasons before all this steroid stuff.

We should not go around and tarnish these legends of the game. Sosa (609 HR), McGwire (583 HR) and I would have included Palmeiro on here but guess what? He actually got caught in this when he tested positive this year!

So I say it again, leave Barry Bonds alone! (Until he tests positive or admits to using it after 2005)

Where Else Can You Get Away with This!

Where else but in our wonderful sport that is the NBA can you get away with sexual harassment and not lose your job? Nowhere, our society does not put up with this kind of conduct but the NBA does. Commissioner David Stern should be jumping right in the middle of this but he is not.

If this was the NFL, Isiah Thomas would be suspended right now and possibly for an extended period of time. He just cost the Knicks franchise $11.6 million dollars and they didn't even flench. That just shows the sad state of affairs in the NBA. Thomas should have been relieved of his duties and removed from MSG all together. And I think he not the team should have had to come up with the cash.

According to the AP, the jury found Thomas, MSG and James Dolan (MSG Chairman) guilty of harassing the former Northwestern basketball star. Let see if the court finds you guilty shouldn't your League find you guilty as well? It's time for David Stern to man up and step up to this blemish on the NBA's already tarnished name and get this thing turned around!

Kurt Thomas What a Pick-up?

So the Sonics pick up Kurt Thomas from the Suns after signing PJ Carlesimo as coach...What a great move. They get the veteran leadership top "Tutor" Kevin Durant and Jeff Green? Are you kidding me?

Let's see Kurt Thomas is a scoring and rebounding machine right? Not quite. Over the last 2 years he has averaged 6.4 points per game and 6.6 rebounds. Great mentoring numbers huh..I'm sure that's just the kind of stats they want out of Durant and Green!

And at what price did they get this great product: $8.1 million for one year plus there $8 million cap exception. So in reality $16.1 million.

I think that is a crazy price to pay for a one year tutoring session from someone averaging less that 7 and 7 over the last two years!

Sean Salisbury Knows His Pick's

I picked this video up off another site I am a member of. So next time Sean Salisbury gets on your nerves picking apart a QB read like he was an all-world quarterback. Harken back to this video and realize he can talk the talk because he has experienced it himself!

And he missed the tackle!

PJ Carlesimo - What the Crap?

OK, so the Seattle Supersonics just got two top draft picks and what some consider the best player in the draft, in Kevin Durant. And what do they do to get them started? Hire an old washed up, has been who's last head coaching job included getting beat up by his own player.

Someone who is not even close to a winning record:

  	REGULAR SEASON POST SEASON
YEAR TEAM WINS LOSSES PCT WINS LOSSES PCT
1994-95 Portland 44 38 .537 0 3 .000
1995-96 Portland 44 38 .537 2 3 .400
1996-97 Portland 49 33 .598 1 3 .250
1997-98 Golden State 19 63 .232 0 0 .000
1998-99 Golden State 21 29 .420 0 0 .000
1999-00 Golden State 6 21 .222 0 0 .000
TOTALS 183 222 .452 3 9 .250

P.J. Carlesimo, Sonics savior? I think not. Hopefully these groups of players won't beat him up.

Will the Tank Roll Again?

Well, since Tank Johnson was found to be below the legal level when he was arrested, will the Tank roll again at Soldier Field? I believe that the Bears should have waited a little while before they released him. Everyone deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt until proven guilty.

The Bears defense can really use Johnson up front. With the other 3 guys they have there needs to be some meat in the middle. No Tank wasn't the top run stopper or pass rusher but he was a space eater and that's what the middle needs. Someone to slow down the backs until Urlacher can get to them.

But no, what did Chicago say "No Tanks".. way to go front office.
