Nomo Retires, Holds L.A. Strikeout Mark
Hideo Nomo, who pitched a pair of no-hitters and was the first of a number of Japanese players to the major leagues, announced his retirement July 17th. Known for an unusual delivery and a devastating forkball, the 39-year-old had been released by the Kansas City Royals in late April.
