Sat, Apr 26: Dolphins Trade Their 4th Round Pick To The Cowboys For 2 Players.

I'll see you all in the Chat Room today for the NFL Draft!Dolphins Trade Their 4th Round Pick To The Cowboys For 2 Players.Parcells traded our 4th round pick to the Cowboys for ILB AKIN AYOLDELE and TE ANTHONY FASANO. Compared to our other 2nd day draft picks in this decade, this is a move in the right direction as they may still be on this team in a few years. Still, I think we expected to draft better in the 4th round than his predecessors. I'm mixed on this as I have seen us take other team's players who did not live up to their potential when drafted and did nothing with us. However, Fasano came out of Notre Dame with some real upside. Parcells knew that it would take some time to develop him. I think he can be a good tight end if given a chance. At Dallas he was used pretty much as a blocker since they had Pro Bowler Jason Witten catching passes. Parcells did this for three reasons. One, DAVID MARTIN was a huge disappointment for us last year. I would think that even Martin would admit that he expected more from himself last year. Secondly, the Dolphins need to upgrade their receiving corps. Fasano came from Notre Dame where he had Charlie Weis utilizing his skills. I am sure that Parcells has talked to Weis about Fasano over the past two years. Third, we get 2 players for one in the 4th round. Ayoldele has started for both the Jaguars and the Cowboys, so the Dolphins also get a potential starting linebacker. Let's not forget that Parcells understands the importance of building through the draft, so, in his mind, this was the best value the Dolphins could have gotten in the 4th round. wrote ...Anthony FasanoSelected by: Dallas CowboysRound: 2Pick (Overall): 21(53)TE | (6'4", 259, 4.71) | NOTRE DAMEScouts Grade: 86Strengths: Has adequate overall size. Is a big target in the passing game. Is quicker than fast. Lacks elite athleticism but is smooth and fluid as a route runner. Knows how to get off the LOS and does an impressive job of settling into soft spots of zone coverage. Has a terrific feel for the passing game. His hands are outstanding. Shows impressive hands when plucking on the run. Is a clutch performer with a knack for coming up big on third down situations. A tough runner after the catch. Shows good upper body strength and adequate lower body strength. Is technically sound and feisty as a blocker. Takes good angles and uses consistent leverage at the POA. Does a good job with hand placement and fights to finish. Is able to reach the second-level as a downfield run blocker and can hit the moving target. Is intelligent, tough and hard working.Weaknesses: Lacks elite top end speed. Will not stretch the field vertically on a consistent basis in the NFL. Not a big threat after the catch. Lacks burst and elusiveness in space. Also lacks ideal leaping ability. Will need to improve his bulk and base in order to match up as an in-line blocker in the NFL. Durability is a mild issue: He missed one game (Navy) with back spasms in 2003, missed one game (Stanford) with a shoulder contusion in 2004 and he was bothered by a thumb injury late in 2005 season. He also has had some fumbling problems, including three fumbles as a junior in 2003.Overall: Fasano started three of the 11 games that he played as a redshirt freshman in 2003. He started nine of the 11 games that he played in as a sophomore in 2004, finishing with 27 catches for 367 yards and four touchdowns. He started every game as a junior in 2005, when he finished with 47 receptions for 576 yards and two touchdowns. Fasano lacks explosive speed, which limits his NFL potential as a seam-stretching receiver. He needs to add some bulk in order to better match up at the next level as an in-line blocker. He also comes with a little bit of baggage in terms of the fumbling and durability issues. However, Fasano possesses the frame to continue to get bigger and he shows the technique and toughness to develop into an efficient all-around blocker. Fasano also has the mobility, quickness, hands and instincts to emerge as a reliable short-to-intermediate weapon in the passing game. Simply put; Fasano is a very good prospect at the tight end position but he's a step down from the elite class. As a result, we feel that Fasano will be a bit of a reach in the first round of the 2006 draft but that he absolutely warrants second round consideration. * Player biographies are provided by Scouts Inc.
