We have enjoyed a little minor break from the blog over the past week or so. We are the first Dolphins blog available to the fans as this site has been in existence since the 2000 season, so, sit back and enjoy another season with us.Breaking In Another Rookie Head CoachLost in all the Bill Parcells lovefest is the fact that the Dolphins are breaking in another head coach. The last head coach, Cam Cameron, was hand-picked through a long interview process that the Dolphins carefully handled last year. Well, some would say that it took too long, but we saw how that turned out.This year's head coach, Tony Sparano, was also carefully selected from our vice president, Bill Parcells. I say carefully because Parcells had his key personnel all ready selected before he was named head honcho of the Miami Dolphins. Parcells demands success from himself as much as he does from others. Parcells has to succeed as Vice President of the Dolphins. Will Tony Sparano be successful? I think he has the temperament to be a good head coach in the NFL. Parcells considers Sparano the coach that he was 20 years ago as he has many of the same tough-minded personality traits that made Parcells a success in the NFL. Last week during mini-camp Parcells proudly yelled at his "mini-me" telling Sparano that he reminded him of someone he knew. Well, Sparano knew that Parcells was talking about himself. To be successful as a head coach it is no secret that a head coach has to have the coaching talent around him and the talent on the field. Look no further than the Dallas Cowboys and you will see what I am talking about. The only reason that Wade Phillips won last year was because of all the talent around him. In a few years Parcells will have the talent that he needs on this team to be successful. SI's Dr Z noticed that Parcells draft was a winner as he noticed "the average of the nine chaps selected is 6-3, 274. My kind of draft, boy." Forgive me if I get a little excited about what we could be seeing on the field once these players mature in the NFL in a couple of years. Get ready for some smash-mouthed football. Parcells was on Ray Perkins' staff in New York, but even more than Schottenheimer and Holmgren, he's really crafted himself. Maurice Carthon, who played and coached under Parcells, and Eric Mangini, the new defensive coordinator in New England, are both hot prospects who might expand the Parcells coaching tree within the next several years.Bill Belichick, NE — This is the one every fan knows. Belichick was an assistant for Perkins, too, and Parcells kept him on when he became head coach. Belichick also worked for Parcells with the Patriots and Jets before returning to New England in 2000.Romeo Crennel, CLE — Perkins may not have been an exceptional coach, but he knew how to pick 'em. The 1981-82 Giants had Parcells, Belichick, and Crennel as assistants. Crennel stayed with the Giants until 1992, then went to the Pats when Parcells came out of retirement in 1993. He also followed Parcells to the Jets before joining Belichick's staff in '01.Nick Saban, MIA — Saban is hard to pin down, but the Parcells tree is where he fits best, having spent four years with Belichick in Cleveland. Saban got his NFL start from Jerry Glanville in Houston in the late 1980s.Tom Coughlin, NYG — The Parcells influence is clear in the way he runs his teams.
