The Morning Word: Dbacks Recipe For Success
There has never been a perfectly run ball club in the history of baseball. However, the Diamondbacks, led by GM Josh Byrnes and Assistant Peter Woodfork, have turned the laughing stock of the league in 2004 to an NL favorite in just three years. It started with finding the draftees that would make it to the big leagues fast as well as prosper, to acquiring players through signings or trades that would contribute, but fill as short term blocks for younger players that are developing. This has allowed the Diamondbacks to keep a small, manageable payroll, but also spend money if necessary. The Diamondbacks are currently 23rd in the league when in comes to payroll, between the Orioles and Twins, but had at least eleven more victories than both teams last season. Let's take a look at their recipe for success.
