Titans Sign LT Roos to Extension
The Tennessee Titans have locked up left tackle Michael Roos after offering him a six-year extension worth $43 million.According to Roos' agent, Cameron Foster, the tackle is now the league's third highest paid tackle as his contract includes $15 million in guaranteed money, a $4 million roster bonus and $1.5 in Pro Bowl escalators.Roos has already exceeded all expectations, as reported by Jim Wyatt of USAToday.com: The 6-foot-7, 315-pound Roos, a second-round draft pick by the Titans in 2005 out of Eastern Washington, has started 48 consecutive games. His contract was scheduled to expire after the 2008 season. The Titans and Foster began negotiating last month and hammered out the final details this week."He is a low-key guy and it takes an awful lot to get him excited, but he is smiling," Foster said. "The beauty of this is I didn't have to twist any arms to make the Titans realize his value. They were pretty much fair out of the blocks and this contract makes Michael the third-highest-paid tackle, behind Orlando Pace (St. Louis Rams) and Walter Jones (Seattle Seahawks)."In March, Foster sent Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt a letter saying if Roos wasn't locked up to a long-term deal by training camp, the team should be prepared to lose him next offseason as a free agent. Foster negotiated the extension with Vin Marino, senior director of football administration for the Titans. The Titans also hope to sign right tackle David Stewert to a longer deal. They offered him a one-year deal worth $2.017 million, but has not signed it yet. For more recent news on the Titans reported by the Biz of Football check here.
