Training Camp Schedule Released, the 2009 Draft Watch List
The Dolphins have opened up 20 practices to the public beginning July 25th and ending August 14th. Seating and parking are free and admission is available for the first 2000 people.I'm introducing the 2009 Draft Watch List. As the season rolls on the list will get bigger as more talent comes to the forefront and the needs of the Dolphins become more apparent. Every week I'll break down the matchups for the players on the watch list. After the weekend the more active members of the NFL Draft and College Football forum can discuss what they saw. The Dolphins attempted to address both lines as well as the Quarterback and possibly the Running Back position this past off season. Hopefully everything will workout and the Dolphins can focus on the Secondary, Receivers, and some Pass Rushers next year. This is the pre season short list. Jenkins, Malcolm Ohio State 6/11984.45Jenkins is a true shutdown corner that will take the best Receiver on any team. He gets an early test from the USC receiving core, he'll also get Derrick Williams of Penn State and Greg Matthews of Michigan as some of his bigger matchups. Maualuga, Rey Southern Cal 6/22604.74Rey fits that Parcells mold of a BIG Linebacker at 260 pounds. He has been described as the hardest hitter in the country and will dominate the opposing teams ground game. He'll get a real nice matchup with Ohio State's Beanie Wells early in the season.Davis, Vontae Illinois 6/12044.42Brother of Vernon Davis, Vontae was the only sophomore that was a Thorpe Semifinalist last year. He is the best Junior Corner and might be the best Corner in the country. His biggest matchup will come late in the season when he faces Brian Robiskie of Ohio State. Crabtree, Michael Texas Tech 6/32084.54Crabtree exploded onto the scene last year with 134 receptions, 1962 yards, and 22 Touchdowns. He is a big receiver with nice acceleration for his size. We are going to have to wait and see if any Big 12 Defense Backs emerge to be able to really give Crabtree a test. Rolle, Myron Florida State 6/22184.52Parcells likes a big hitter in the secondary, and no other player in the country probably personifies that more than Rolle. Probably the best pure Strong Safety in the country, he has a great off the field track record also as he is highly involved in the community and does well academically. His biggest test will come against the Gators late in the season.Cushing, Brian Southern Cal 6/32554.75Cushing plays the Elephant position for the Trojans and is an obvious fit for the 34 defense. He gets an early matchup with Tackle Alex Boone of Ohio State. A big knock on Cushing however is his injury history. Heyward-Bey, Darrius Maryland 6/22054.37Darrius is a big receiver with excellent deep speed. He gets constantly double teamed which prevents him from really breaking out. He will get multiple tests from solid all around secondaries in California, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Florida State.Mays, Taylor Southern Cal 6/32254.52The size of Mays would indicate that he is a Strong Safety, but he is the center fielder for the Trojans. Mays is an incredible athlete who can play either Safety spot. He gets an early test from the Ohio State Receiving core.Download the Free Phinfever Browser ToolbarSupport Phinfever by buying what you need from our advertisers.
