Skateboarding is doomed to retarded websites
Take a quick look at the link....there are 1300 skateboarding related domain names currently up for auction at godaddy.com
99% of them appear to be selected by jerks who are looking to get lucky and sell for a profit. This is nothing new, and it is certainly not unique to skateboarding, but it is depressing none the less because there are so many potential domain names that will never be used. Our sport currently has very few good websites worth viewing and lags behind other sports with equal amounts of participants because corporations are not putting the same money into their online presence. The cybersquatters are basically taking the most common terms people want to type in and holdign them hostage from our sport. The kid who wants to build an awesome website will build it with some crazy name no one will ever type in. The small business who wants to do the same may walk away from the idea because the domain name they want is taken or being held hostage for a ridiculous amount of money. Maybe someone out there can tell me where capitalism and the nuturing of growing cultures can coexist in this world.
