Producing the best soccer it has played in recent memory, the United States men's national team came within a whisker Sunday of pulling off its second staggering international soccer upset in just five days. After shutting out Spain, the world's No. 1-ranked team, 2-0, in midweek, the U.S. was leading Brazil by the same score at halftime in the final of the FIFA Confederations Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa...

  • the score was really 4-2, though we had a few monments of pure genius, our first touches were no were near as well played as the Brazilians. Though lalas and everyone else itterated that we were well matched with the Brazilians, from where I sat we were by far the 2nd best team on the pitch today.
  • Agreed. It was clear Brazil was the better ball club. That does not take away from the pain of knowing that the US could have been the better club at the end of today (and that is all that would have mattered). From beating Spain and owning the 1st half on the scoreboard, the final outcome is still a major letdown. You just knew it was going to get ugly when Brazil scored after a minute on the field in the 2nd half.
  • A good showing. They needed to put more on the board in the first half (kick when they are down). The US was a little out of shape to play the style they were playing, but Brasil felt the pressure and almost completely caved. WC 2010 look out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
