Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas again confirmed tonight that star player Gareth Bale is not for sale. The Welsh attacking midfielder didn’t play in Tottenham’s 5-2 defeat against AS Monaco on Saturday, but in the press conference after the match, he reiterated that Bale is staying with the club, but then put his foot in the mouth by saying that “We know that in football anything is possible.” “These rumors of an imminent transfer are not true. The only thing we have communicated with Real Madrid is that he is our player and he is not for sale. “Gareth is a guy I really like. We are talking with Real Madrid because there is respect between the two clubs following the transfer last season of Luka Modric. “We are building a great team for next season. We envisage the future with Gareth. But we know that in football anything is possible. What we’ve communicated so far is that we’re not willing to concede to their interest in the player.” Here’s the video of the press conference (thanks to World Soccer Talk reader Peter for the link): Here are tonight’s world soccer news headlines: Premier League Andre Villas-Boas says Carlo Ancelotti wrong to go public over Gareth Bale offer — Sky Sports Daniel Levy not prepared to talk to Real Madrid until new bid made for Gareth Bale — The Telegraph Inter Milan keen on making Manchester City’s Patrick Vieira their new boss — The Mirror Liverpool’s US owner buys Boston Globe newspaper — The Observer Roberto Martinez targets £6million Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld — The Mirror Chelsea set to make second £40m bid for Wayne Rooney — The Mail Brendan Rodgers suggests Arsenal should pay £100m for Luis Suarez — 101GG Liverpool’s Luis Suarez worth just as much as Gareth Bale, says Brendan Rodgers — Daily Star Sir Alex Ferguson in demand by BBC and ITV for World Cup 2014 — The Mail Marouane Chamakh agrees to 6-month loan deal at Crystal Palace — The Mirror Arsenal’s Running Man comes to Emirates Stadium — YouTube Major League Soccer The MLS All-Star Game: A loss for the All-Stars, but a win for American soccer — The Atlantic Football League Joey Barton: Harry Redknapp wants midfielder to stay at QPR — BBC Sport The Nightly Soccer Report is tomorrow’s news today.
