Predicting results and outcomes of games is dangerous business. Sure the intrigue, the speculation, the want to assemble data and come up with the right prediction is something that sports fans thrive on, but find me someone other than a player in the Blackburn Rovers locker room that thought a result was even possible let alone a winning one! Blackburn shocked Man U today 3-2 at Old Trafford spoiling the 70th birthday party of Sir Alex Ferguson. If truth be told, Man U committed suicide with self-inflicted play. Just go over the three goals and you will be reminded: 1.) Yakubu 16th minute-Aerial threat Christopher Samba is marked on a set piece by none other than Dimitar Berbatov. Clearly this is a mental mistake on the part of the players on the field as they get the matchup wrong. How often have we seen strikers come back to defend that are poor at it and somehow wind up marking the most dangerous opponent? Berbatov would pull the big defender down with a tug of the jersey and the big Yak would hit the ensuing penalty kick. 2.) Yakubu 51st minute-slack play around the United penalty area leads to the striker getting his second as he got past a cluster of players to power his shot past a helpless David DeGea in goal for United. Was this savable? 3.) Grant Hanley 80th minute-off a Blackburn corner Man U goalkeeper David DeGea again reminded us that he struggles off his line in the air commanding his box. He lacked confidence and Hanley won the header initially and then headed it a second time in past a cluster of United players including DeGea. Problems in goal with DeGea? You bet! The stunning win may be the result of the year and one has to credit manager Steve Kean, because despite a team that was bottom of the EPL table ahead of the match, it does not look like he has lost his players. Additionally, he had the courage to start a 17-year Nashville born Adam Henley who was blooded. Let's hope U.S. soccer has tabs on this 17-year old as the left back position has been a problem area for the U.S. Predicting games are dangerous but it sure is fun. Twitter: GlennDavisSoc
