Asamoah Gyan has been on fire for Al Ain
Asamoah Gyan will lead Ghana into the 2013 AFCON as captain with his fine scoring form for Al Ain in the UAE Pro-League but can he translate his form to help Ghana’s campaign?
The 26-year-old has bagged 18 goals in ten games for Al Ain including a hat-trick and six different braces.
Ghana is one of the hot favourites to lift the prestigious trophy and the former Sunderland striker’s contribution will be very crucial for the campaign.
Though Gyan is raking in goals for Ain, there are questions surrounding the standard of the UAE Pro-League.
Gyan has five Nations Cup goals to his name since making his AFCON bow in the 2008 edition hosted on home soil, two of which are penalties.
When Gyan hit a rich vein of form in the Angola 2010 tournament where he bagged three goals, he was on fire for Stade Rennes in the French Ligue 1.
But the former Udinese striker has announced he is no more taking penalties kick due to string of crucial penalties.
