Landon Donovan, currently on an organized soccer sabbatical, was spotted in Middleton, Wis., this week playing pickup soccer at an indoor facility and wearing a University of Wisconsin soccer T-shirt.
This isn't the first time Donovan has visited the Madison area to play some soccer he dropped by in December 2011 but when combined with the shorthanded squad in Denver, his appearance does draw attention. According to Wisconsin Soccer Central, Donovan's connection to the area stems from his older brother Joshua Dilberto, a Madison resident.
The United States' all-time leader in goals and assists took time to sign autographs and pose for pictures afterward, and Wisconsin football strength and conditioning coach Brian Bott tweeted a picture with Donovan on Friday.
Donovan, 31, took an extended leave of absence in November after winning his second consecutive MLS Cup title with the Los Angeles Galaxy. He is expected to return to his team next week and travel to the White House, where the Galaxy will be honored for their championship.
Aside from visiting the Madison area, Donovan was also spotted playing pick-up soccer in Cambodia in February, with a Tweet portraying a shirtless Donovan in the Cambodian fields.
