Daniel Sturridge is on course to play for Liverpool on Monday - despite pulling out of the England squad. Sturridge withdrew from Roy Hodgson's squad for the World Cup qualifying double-header with Moldova and Ukraine. But he aims to make a quick return for Liverpool's clash with Swansea after responding well to treatment on a thigh injury. Quick Sturridge caused controversy by pulling out of the England squad with Hodgson admitting he could have made a difference in Kiev. The England boss insisted after the 0-0 draw with Ukraine that he would bear no grudges should Sturridge be fit enough to make a quick return for Liverpool. But the striker was forced to defend himself after giving an interview in which he implied that playing for the Reds was more important. He said: "I'm more worried about Liverpool. That's my main ambition - it's not about playing for England. That comes with doing the things you do for your club and if I don't play well here I won't get the opportunity." Sturridge was then bombarded by Twitter trolls who questioned his commitment to the Three Lions. But he hit back saying: "Don't get it twisted... England is the pinnacle. To play for them is a dream come true. Just hoping to recover for Monday. "Some people never understand. If I'm not fit I can't play."
