Major League Soccer announced that Seattle Sounders' Kasey Keller was voted the 2011 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year on Tuesday. The former US international played in every game for the Soundersin 2011, and led the club to the second-best record in the league this season.
"Kasey had a superb season, finishing his career at such a high level is a reflection of his professionalism and high standards," said Sounders coach Sigi Schmid in an earlier news release. "The game will miss him and we are proud that he was a Seattle Sounder."
In a earlier statement, Keller expressed appreciation for the recognition bestowed from his peers and media members.
"It was a great year and I'm proud that I was able to perform at the level in my final year that I hoped to achieve," said Keller in the release. "Anytime you receive an award it's always nice that someone has thought of you in that regard. I have never played the game for the awards but it's nice to be recognized by your peers."
