Carli Lloyd has scored in the eighth minute to give the United States a 1-0 lead in the gold medal game against Japan on Thursday night. Tobin Heath fed the ball from the left side into Alex Morgan in the area. Morgan spun, controlling the ball along the goal line before chipping it toward Abby Wambach. Wambach raised her left foot, but Lloyd rushed in and headed the ball from 6 yards. Japanese goalkeeper Miho Fukumoto had no chance to stop it. The game is a rematch of last year's World Cup final, won by Japan in a penalty shootout. The Americans are trying to win their fourth Olympic title and third straight. Japan is trying to become the first team to win World Cup and Olympic titles in back-to-back years.
