With his early strike at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night, Luis Suarez closed the gap at the top of the Barclays Premier League goal-scoring chart — and is now just one behind Robin van Persie.
The Uruguayan found the net against the Gunners in the fifth minute to increase his season tally to 17 in the league and 22 in all competitions. He has now struck 43 times in 84 appearances for the Reds.
Suarez has a significant lead in the shots department compared to any other player in the division, with LFC’s No. 7 trying his luck on 100 occasions — 25 more than his nearest challenger, Demba Ba.
The 26-year-old is also second in the rankings for key passes — 65 during the campaign to date — while teammate Steven Gerrard is currently third for assists with eight in total.
