From Larry Brown Sports:

A first-division soccer match in Argentina was suspended Wednesday after fans threw explosives on the field, creating a dangerous situation for the players.

According to the Associated Press, Belgrano was leading Independiente 1-0 when the game was suspended at the end of the first half because of the explosives. The AP reports that the explosives appeared to be launched from the Independiente fan section (the match was played at Independiente’s home stadium).

Belgrano goalkeeper Juan Carlos Olaveon saw an explosive land less than 10 feet from him. The video above shows him with his hand held to his left ear.

It would be one thing is this is an isolated incident, but this is not the first time explosives have been thrown into a soccer match.

2 Comments:
  • This incident happened when players and referee were ready to start the second half, at that point the first explosive landed near the Belgrano's goal keeper, there were four more, which one of those hit near the Independiente's coach.
The culprit was apprehended, also the other bombs were thrown by some 14 years old, that according to 'argentinian laws' they can not be put in jail because they are 'minors'.There has been a battle between the new president of Independiente and the so called 'barras bravas' (hooligans) that were supported by the previous administration.Mr. Cantero (the new president of Independiente) wants to erradicate those 'barras brava'but the argentinian goverment is not helping because the government is using those 'barras'for their own political'propaganda'.
This is an issue that is more complex than, just an explosive landing on the pitch.
I wish that Mr. Cantero to win this 'war', but he can not do it alone.
By the way I am a fan and member of Independiente since 1947.
    Peace.
