Newcastle have reportedly made a sensational bid to re-sign Andy Carroll on loan from Liverpool , with a view to his permanent signing.
The player's future has been under the spotlight over the summer and Reds manager Brendan Rodgers admitted earlier this week that a loan exit was a possibility for the England forward, with West Ham , AC Milan and the Magpies all linked with his services.
According to reports, Carroll is keen to remain at Anfield and prove himself to Rodgers. It is also claimed he is settled on Merseyside and feels he has built a good relationship with the players and supporters.
However, Sky Sports reported on Sunday evening that Newcastle have shown their hand and made a loan offer for their former striker.
The Magpies sold Carroll to Liverpool on January deadline day in 2011 for £35million - at the time the eighth most expensive deal in football history.
