PLAYERS: Didier Drogba
No Ghanaian player made the short list for this year’s BBC African Footballer of the Year Award. This means Ghana will be unable to defend its title in the awards voted for by the fans after Andre Ayew won it last year. The annual accolade by the global media firm is handed to the most outstanding African player in and outside the continent. This year’s edition will see competition from the Ivorian duo of Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba, Demba Ba from Senegal, Morocco’s Younes Belhanda and Zambia skipper Christopher Katongo. Toure who is being nominated for the second consecutive time is the overwhelming favourite to win the award this year after losing out to Ayew in the previous edition. The ex Barcelona player has been immense for Manchester City since arriving nearly three seasons ago. He is currently the reigning African Player of the Year and appears to be head above shoulder against his peers to land the prestigious accolade which will be announced December 13.
