It was a muggy night in Somerville, MA, and perhaps that was the deciding factor in tonight’s 2-1 victory for the Seattle Reign, who up until now, hadn’t won a match this season. Boston led for much of the second half, attacking Seattle and barraging Hope Solo with shot after shot, but maybe they attacked too much, as fatigue started to set in during the second half. The Reign would capitalize with two goals separated just eight minutes apart, picking up their first three points of the season on the road.
It was the Leroux/Solo show for almost the entirety of the first 45. In fact, if Leroux was going up against any other keeper in the league, the Breaker might have had a 2-3 goal lead going into the second half. Instead, Solo’s veteran presence stopped shot after shot from Leroux, whether by head or by foot. Her best chance came in the 29th minute when the young striker attempted to tap the ball over the head of Solo, but would go just over the bar.
