Chelsea skipper, John Terry, has eased any fears that the Blues fans may have over his fitness by revealing that he is fit and looking forward to the new season. The former England captain struggled to hold down a first team place last year under Rafael Benitez and he was restricted to just 27 appearances last season. In addition to falling out of favour with Benitez, the 32 year old also missed a number of games, including the Europa League final, with an ankle injury but he has been quick to assure the returning Jose Mourinho that this is no longer a problem. “I am fit and well,” Terry said. “I had the injury on my ankle at the end of last season but I came back a week early to get some extra fitness under my belt, and I think that has served me well so far in training,” he added. Despite last season being a personal disappointment for him, as well as his fans who bet on Premier League, Terry is looking forward to the season ahead and, having previously won the Premier League on two occasions under Mourinho, he will be confident of similar success again if some of the Chelsea new boys can fire. With his side currently on a pre-season tour of Asia, he is happy with what he has seen of the 2013-14 squad and the way that the new faces are fitting in at Chelsea. “The new lads have settled in really well and the quality is good, and these trips definitely help that because you are in each other’s pockets all day every day, so it is a great opportunity for them to get to know the other players,” Terry said. Terry may have fallen down the pecking order under Rafael Benitez but he is sure to be central to Jose Mourinho’s plans. If he can stay fit all season, and is given the opportunity to have an influence in the big games, then Terry could have a huge part to play in a Chelsea revival under Mourinho – at least in the eyes of Premier League betting pundits.
