David Moyes faces one of the biggest decisions of his time as Manchester United manager when he chooses whether to throw Wayne Rooney to the mercy of his club’s fans at this weekend’s Community Shield at Wembley. Rooney’s stock with supporters has never been lower as the England striker tries to engineer a move to rivals Chelsea. Monday’s news that the 27-year-old will miss Tuesday night’s friendly in Stockholm with a shoulder injury picked up in a behind-closed-doors game on Saturday was greeted with scepticism particularly as the player is expected to submit an official transfer request later this week.
