This weekend offers two of the least exciting games on the Bearcat schedule this entire year. Tomorrow the Bearcats football team plays Connecticut. On Sunday afternoon, my birthday (expecting a shout out during the telecast Tom and Terry), the basketball team takes on the worst opponent they’ll play all year in Eastern Illinois. Some could say that the games are snowflakes, we...
Welcome to episode 9 of the Bearcats BlogCast, the weekly podcast with myself and Chris Bains from Cincy on the Prowl. Just a little note, Chris and I aren’t recording a podcast next week due to the Bearcats playing on Tuesday and the Thanksgiving holiday. If something major comes up, we will try to throw one together. If not, enjoy your Thanksgiving.
On this week’s edition of...
Game two was another victory for the mighty Bearcats. It was a much needed game I believe. The Eagles aren’t the best team in the Ohio Valley, but they are no slouch. They are a team that has won and can compete. They gave the Bearcats all they could handle last night. When you have a young team learning to win, winning is very important. If the guys know how to close now, that...
24 points from Farad Cobb powered the Bearcats over Morehead State tonight, 69-61. Cobb hit 6 three pointers, most in the second half, that helped UC get up on the Eagles. The three ball was flying as the Cats hit 9 of 22, 6 of 14 in the second half. Jermaine Sanders hit a couple when Morehead State was bringing the heat to start the second half.
Octavius Ellis put up 16 points thanks...
Game two of the college basketball season brings hope that the Cincinnati offense isn’t quite as rocky as they were in the season opener. Morehead State brings an interesting challenge. The Eagles were up 11 with 17 minutes to go at UNLV before losing by a point. The Eagles also beat Cincinnati Christian by 8 points while giving up nearly a point per possession defensively. Granted...
Cincinnati plays a certain set of games televised by FSN Ohio. That starts tonight. These are the games where Tom Gelehrter and Terry Nelson call the action. These games fill the void in Bearcats TV coverage for the remainder of the season, except for the Middle Tennessee game on November 28. These games are also going to be available on ESPN3 if you don’t get FSN Ohio in your...
His coin collection is probably cooler than yours. Also, stick around to the end when Tommy G calls country music “Country and Western” in the nerdiest way imaginable.
Come for the office tour, stay for the kind of awkward heaping love of Joe Paterno.
Nearly missed in the ether was the announcement that Bearcats quarterback Gunner Kiel and kicker Andrew Gantz were honored by the AAC as offensive and special teams player of the week. Both players have won this award numerous times. Gantz especially has racked them up lately.
Here’s the full release from the American.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced...
Surprise edition of the Bearcats Blog Cast today. I was fortunate enough to talk to the great Raphielle Johnson of NBC Sports and College Basketball Talk fame. Raphielle has been gracious enough with his time the past few years to preview college basketball with me. Today, we did it via podcast.
Be sure to follow Raphielle on twitter. He is one of the best college basketball folks...
Dog ass ugly would be a good way to describe Friday night’s season opening win by the Bearcats. Any time a defensive performance is so strong, it tends to make games ugly. The Bearcat defense on Friday was out of this world good. St Francis made 12 field goals and 9 free throws. They countered that by having 21 turnovers. The Bearcats themselves turned the ball over 17 times and...

The rumors ended up being true. Wes Rucker of Tennessee’s 247 site says that Cincinnati running back Ralph David Abernathy IV will transfer to Tennessee in January. This was confirmed by Abernathy’s father. The rumors of Ralph David joining his brother Micah sounded like they had a lot of smoke behind them, and they did.
RDA IV was at the Tennessee game today when the Vols hosted...

It was dog ass ugly, but Cincinnati put together a 52-37 victory over St Francis to open the season. The offense was horrendous. The Cats offensive efficiency was 86.1. The main problem were turnovers. The Cats turned the ball over on 28% of their possessions. It really threw a kink into things. The defense was great because St Francis is horrifically bad. Still, UC forced 21 turnovers...
This video aired before the Bearcats season opener against St Francis Friday night. Take a look and relive the moments.
Cincinnati kicks off season 114 at 8 eastern against the Red Flash of St. Francis. The Bearcats should rock and roll against the second worst, by Ken Pom standards, opponent they will play all season. That’s what makes this a good opener. You play the worst teams first, then you kick it into high gear come December. Games like this are practically exhibitions with how much coaches...
Normally I would start off with a little bit of an overview on the game, but how can the opening subject be anything but the absolutely insane decision by the Bearcats brass to run the mother flipping option on 4th and 2? This play was an all around disaster. From burning a timeout because Gunner Kiel didn’t run it originally. From Gunner Kiel running the option period. From Gunner...
Tubs on 4th down call: it was stupid. Gantz bailed me out. #Bearcats
