Post-Gazette: Steelers decided not to retain Bruce Arians
Just a couple of days after Bruce Arians' retirement, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has learned that Arians was told the team would not be renewing his contract and then decided to retire. Arians had told several members of the staff that he was planning on returning for 2012 and head coach Mike Tomlin wanted him to return as well. It seems, according to the P-G, that people higher...

RIP Joe Paterno
Today is a very sad day in Pennsylvania. Black Shoe Diaries summed up my thoughts and feelings today better than I ever could:
Joe Paterno would always be there for us too, as an unlikely combination of Fred Rogers and fellow Brooklynite Vince Lombardi. His hair would always be dark and his eyeglasses comically thick. He would run out the tunnel for roughly a dozen Saturdays each...

The Worst AFC Championship Ever: A Steeler Fan's Guide
This is probably the worst thing anyone in Steeler Nation could have asked for. Instead of the battle of the loveable underdogs in Texans vs Broncos, we get the Ratbirds and the... Gay...triots. Something. This game is going to suck because no matter who wins, Steeler fans lose.If you decide to even watch the AFC Championship (and we don't blame you if you don't) you...

God is good.. thank u all 4 the love and support just sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers— Derrick Williams (@DWheelz12) January 19, 2012
Wide receiver Derrick Williams, a former star at Penn State, has agreed to a contract with the Steelers. Williams spent 2 seasons with the Detroit Lions, where he was a dissapointment after being a 3rd round pick in 2009. Williams was cut...

Report: Bruce Arians considering retirement, may not coach in 2012
And on the 18th day of January in the year 2011, the heavens opened up to earth and angels sang out in celebration:
The Steelers coaching staff could undergo its first major change in the Mike Tomlin era because offensive coordinator Bruce Arians might not return in 2012, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has learned.
Arians, 57, is in the final year of his contract with the Steelers...

Dan Rooney to return to Steelers in 2012; new throwback uniforms coming too
Steelers' president Art Rooney II had an excellent interview this afternoon and provided tons of insight into the Steelers upcoming offseason and 2012 season. One of the biggest nuggets he revealed was that his father Dan is expected to return stateside after serving one term as the US ambassador to Ireland. Dan Rooney is expected to be back with the Steelers in a capacity to...

Bam's Divisional Weekend Predictions
There aren't many positives to come out of the Steelers dismal loss last weekend at Denver, but one of them is that I can now enjoy the rest of the playoff games without any stress. Every game the Steelers play in January takes at least a year or two off of my life and I'm looking forward to the next two football weekends, where I can just enjoy watching the games. Here&...

Blitzburgh Podcast: Talking Denver loss and recapping the 2011 season
There is so much to discuss this week we decided to do a podcast. The very knowledgable Ian from The Steelers n'at joined us as well.
Topics include the Steelers stunning loss in Denver, Hines Ward's future, Tim Tebow, best and worst moments of 2011 and more

Tebowed. STEELERS LOSE.
And just like that, the season is over. For as much as everyone wants to be an expert, us here included, the playoffs are unpredictable. After all, who expected Tim Tebow to come out and get a triple digit passer rating? Who thought that the loss of Ryan Clark would make the whole defensive backfield fail to cover anyone? Let's face it. The Steelers were outcoached and outplayed...

Maurkice Pouncey Is Apparently a Douchebag
Okay, yeah, the Steelers lost in the playoffs, cool, we'll get to that tomorrow or something. In the meantime, Maurkice Pouncey apparently ignored the game and didn't care about the loss, because he was too busy promoting some stupid T-shirt sale to commemorate his Pro Bowl selection and some iTunes album coming out at some point in the future. When confronted about the clear lack...

Steelers vs Broncos Statistical Preview: January 8, 2012
In case you didn’t hear, the Steelers are the fifth seed in the AFC playoffs, and they are traveling to Denver on Sunday. This means a date with Tim Tebow and the Broncos (but a clandestine date, nothing Tebow’s parents wouldn’t approve of). Will the Steelers be able to shut down Tebow’s mystifying ability to either run for a few yards or throw a pass between two receivers...

2012 NFL Playoffs: Exposing each contender's fatal flaw
I read on Twitter earlier today that 6 teams this season have 12 or more wins - Green Bay, New England, New Orleans, San Francisco, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. That mark ties the NFL record for the most 12+ win teams in a season. All of these teams are excellent and I wouldn't want feel confident if Pittsburgh played any of the other 5. But that doesn't mean there are a bunch...

Steelers Defeat Browns, Claim 5-seed
There's no point in recapping everything that happened in yesterday's game. Here's what you need to know:
The Patriots won. They get the #1 seed.
Baltimore won. They hold on to the #2 seed.
The Steelers were powerless to change their seeding after all and remain in the 5th spot.
The Denver Broncos somehow won the AFC West and will be the 4th seed.
Hines Ward got...

Video: Root Sports broadcasts a Dan Bylsma F-Bomb
This is the most non-Steelers related post you will ever see on here. I was watching the Pens game on Root Sports tonight and part of their "all-access night" included showing Pens head coach Dan Bylsma in the looker room before the game. Awesome right?Only problem was Root didn't edit the clip carefully enough and the mother of all curse words found its way into living...

Five Steelers named to 2012 Pro Bowl roster
The NFL announced Pro Bowl rosters tonight and a few Steelers were honored. Ben Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey, Mike Wallace will represent the Steelers on offense. Troy Polamalu is the lone representative for the defense and, surprisingly, Antonio Brown is the AFC's starting KR. Pouncey and Polamalu are 'starters.' Brown is a little bit of a surprise. A few other Steelers...

Batch Will Start Tomorrow
Looks like the Steelers heard my pleas. Ben Roethlisberger will not play on Saturday, and Charlie Batch will be under center against the St. Louis Rams. The Steelers have likely accepted the fate of a fifth seed, content to play the AFC West champion on wildcard weekend. In the meantime, Ben Roethlisberger can work on getting healthy. By not working at all.

Saturday could be Hines Ward's last game at Heinz Field
There are lots of reasons to shrug your shoulders at Saturday afternoon's contest against the St. Louis Rams. The Steelers are already guaranteed a playoff spot and odds are they will enter the playoffs as the AFC's 5th seed. Plus, the Rams are awful, Roethlisberger likely isn't playing and it is Christmas Eve. But there is one storyline flying a little under the radar...

The Case Against Ben Roethlisberger Starting
Dejan Kovacevic wrote in his column today that the Steelers should play Ben Roethlisberger these final two weeks of the season. Now, Kovacevic is no joke. He knows what he's talking about in every sport and I agree with him close to 100% of the time. This is one of the times I don't.He's right about a few things, of course. There is a case to start Ben despite his high...

Roethlisberger unlikely to play Saturday against Rams
When the Steelers take the field on Christmas Eve, it looks like the will be without their starting QB. Pro Football Talk and Jason LaCanfora are both saying that Ben Roethlisberger will not play this week and his status for Week 17 remains unclear as well. In all likelihood, the Steelers are going to be the 5th seed in the AFC after their blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers...

Power Outage. STEELERS LOSE
POWER OUTAGEOh god, the horror! Decades from now, your children will look to you and say "Do you remember that fateful December eve?" The expression on your face will answer their question. You will relive the experience you wanted so badly to forget. You will tell your children of the uncertainty, and how it gave way into disorder, and how it evolved into chaos. The riots...

Turnovers, penalties and Andy Lee black out Steelers
This was a frustrating game no matter which way you look at it. I think the attitude of a lot of Steelers fans heading into this week was that the 49ers weren't as good as their record. After an ugly 20-3 loss , the same thing will be said about Pittsburgh this week. The Steelers offense actually moved the ball very well against a stout 49ers defense. Ben Roethlisberger threw...

Video: Blown transformer near Candlestick Park delays Monday Night Football
Tonight's game has been delayed by 30-40 minutes after a transformer in the area went out, causing a brief power outage at Candlestick Park. The lights are now back on. Here's video courtesy of Empty Netters. No word if Bane is behind this or not. If Hines Ward lines up to return the opening kickoff, hide yo wife hide yo kids.

Video: Steelers' Hines Ward in Dark Knight Rises Trailer
This is going to be epic. The theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, filmed in Pittsburgh, hit the Internet early this week. It's the first footage we've seen from the filming that took place at Heinz Field starring Hines Ward and many other Steelers. (The full list is Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Willie Colon, Maurkice Pouncey, Mike Wallace, Heath Miller, Aaron...

Preview: Steelers at 49ers, December 19 2011
For this week's preview, I am compelled to make a generic "keys to the game" list, but statistically informed. However, I can't call them "keys" because everyone else does that. So, in honor of the 49ers, I'm calling them "gold nuggets", and there are 49 of them! Just kidding, I wouldn't do that to you, but the square root of 49 is 7...
