LATEST STORIES FROM FIRST CUTS
Thanks For The Memories, Readers
I feel like I just wrote one of these posts -- probably because I did. Yes, this will be the end of the road for FirstCuts.
This thing was my baby, probably even more so than TSB because I was there from Day 1. The opportunities afforded to me by this blog have been great. I've interviewed so many awesome people like many cast members from "Friday Night Lights" during a set visit...

Review: New 30 for 30 Film, "Jordan Rides The Bus"
After some time away from the 30 for 30 reviews, I'm back with one more on the film that will air August 24, "Jordan Rides The Bus." The film focuses on Michael Jordan's time with the Birmingham Barons and it's directed by Ron Shelton. Shelton is most famous for "Bull Durham."
As a quick refresher, Michael Jordan left basketball just prior to the start of the 1993-94 season....

NBA Elite 11 To Include Free NBA Jam Download
In the NBA simulation game world, NBA 2K11 struck a major blow with the Jordan Challenges. EA Sports' response on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3? They'll give you NBA Jam for free.
If there was ever a season to prove that consumers benefit when more than one company has the license for a sport, this is it. Without even playing either game this season, it's clear that we're getting...

Kevin Garnett Ditches adidas for Chinese Company ANTA
Kevin Garnett is leaving adidas for Chinese sneaker company ANTA, confirming reports from late May. ANTA is Garnett's fourth company, having also worked with Nike, adidas, and AND1.
Other big names like Baron Davis and Jason Kidd have also gone the foreign route, eschewing the traditional deals with Nike, adidas and Reebok. The downside for fans, of course, is the lack of access...

Review: NCAA Football 11
NCAA Football 11 hit consoles in mid-July, so forgive this review for being a little bit delayed. The timing seems right though, as EA just announced a second major patch to the game.
The consensus seems to be that this year's edition is slightly better than previous seasons -- Metacritic has it checking in a few points higher than each of the last few seasons -- but I wouldn...

Terrell Owens Makes Like New Teammate Ochocinco, Has App On the Way
First Terrell Owens joined Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati to play for the Bengals. Now he's teaming up with one of Ocho's other partners, Rock Software, to create his iPhone app. The app will be available on August 8.
If you're familiar with Ochocinco's app, then you'll recognize most of the available features. (Although I am intrigued by a sports app that will also remind me how...

NBA Jam Adds Two More Legends, Boss Battles
ESPN has a piece up this morning talking about the latest revelations regarding NBA Jam, which releases Oct. 5.
While we already knew about a number of legends characters -- James Worthy, Dennis Rodman, Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Detlef Schrempf and Kevin McHale -- the article mentions two more we didn't know. Spud Webb and Manute Bol will both be in the game.
In addition...

Eastbound and Down Returning Sept. 26; Own His Jet Ski
Eastbound and Down, the story of an ex-MLB pitcher trying to make it back despite his constant personal ridiculousness, became quite the cult favorite last season on HBO. Kenny Powers, the aforementioned pitcher, is really the ultimate anti-hero.
One of the iconic scenes from Season 1 of the show was Powers riding around on his jet ski -- The Panty Dropper -- with a topless woman...

New Meadowlands Gets Boost From Smartphone App
I love football season, but here are the things I don't love: loud drunks, hypothermia, expensive parking and private seat licenses. So with that, I've shifted my vantage point from the stadium to the couch, opting for an HD TV experience and my own controlled surroundings rather than the increasingly hostile stadium experience. The fact is, even if those things didn't bother you...

Most of the excitement to this point regarding NBA 2K11 came thanks to all the Michael Jordan Challenge news. Today's news isn't as exciting, but it's news nonetheless. Here's your look at the 2K11 soundtrack.
1. Snoop Dogg - NBA 2K Theme
2. Big Boi - Shutterbug
3. Drake - Over
4. Cassidy - Game Time
5. Ron Artest - Champion

First Look at Terrell Owens as a Bengal in Madden NFL 11
EA Sports just released seven new screen shots of Terrell Owens, the newest member of the Cincinnati Bengals, wearing his stripes. Check out the full gallery on Facebook. One question obviously remains: Will T.O. actually wear No. 81? That would appear to be the current number for the other newly acquired wideout in Cincinnati -- Antonio Bryant.

Nike Boom Brings Motivational Talks to Your Training
There's an interesting app that's been out for roughly a week called Nike Boom that I took a closer look at this afternoon. If you lug around an iPod/iPhone during your workouts and you're looking for some sort of free guidance for your workouts, it isn't a bad place to start.
The greatest strength of the app is taking music from player's library and bringing it into the app,...

Madden NFL 11 Soundtrack Revealed
EA Sports just sent out a news release unveiling the soundtrack for Madden NFL 11. I'll say it: The thing is pretty uninspired. If they're going for a "Best of Jock Jams" feel, the mission accomplished. And maybe EA can't go broad and interesting in its music choices because of the scale of its audience. But yeah, I can't see anyone getting particularly excited about this year's...

NBA Jam to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360?
As of this moment, EA Sports hasn't announced NBA Jam coming to the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, but the screen grab above from the Entertainment Software Rating Board indicates it might not be far off.
EA Sports had yet to return an e-mail seeking comment as of this post. If they give us any further information, this post will be updated.

Tebow/EA Sports Nike Trainer 1.2 Gets Release Date
It's really the perfect storm sneaker for this fine blog: a shoe devoted to a specific athlete and a video game? All we need is a music and TV tie-in and we're set. Oh, and there's even a shirt to go along with it!
Yes, I'm talking about the Nike "Tim Tebow" EA Sports Trainer 1.2, pictured below:
The sneaker above, along with a "Tebow Knows" shirt -- riffing on the old "Bo Knows...

As Ohioans Burn LeBron Gear, Ohio State Will Stick with James' Nike Gear
If you search "LeBron Burn" on YouTube, you'll find more than a few people in Ohio (and presumably across the country) that have decided to divest themselves of their LeBron James apparel by way of open flame. Meanwhile, the Ohio State Buckeyes are making no such move
The Plain Dealer has the details:
In October 2009, Ohio State presented James with a No. 23 Ohio State basketball...

T-Time: The San Euro
WHY YOU NEED IT: Everyone's talking NBA, so we shall, too. There are a couple big names out there, but we'll talk about the biggest: Tony Parker. Yes, the stealthy Spur is honored with this NV Euro tee, which simply takes the Spurs logo and replaces it with a styled "Euro." Parker doesn't get nearly enough t-shirt rep, so it's nice of NV Euro to come through and honor the French...

2K Sports Issues the Jordan Challenge; Play with 10 Versions of Michael Jordan
Much of the excitement about the upcoming crop of NBA games will come from playing with reshuffled rosters across the league, but NBA 2K11 is giving itself a major distinction with a new mode called The Jordan Challenge.
CNBC's Darren Rovell has the particulars:
The mode allows fans to play with 10 different versions of Jordan that are authentic to that moment. [...] Fans can...

EA Sports Active Gets NFL Training Camp Twist
When initially released, EA Sports Active really targeted a female audience, but in November that will change.

First Look at NBA Elite 11 with Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Brandon Jennings
Fans have to be excited about the new controls, but I must admit I'm surprised at how unpolished the graphics look. Still, it does say work in progress, and ultimately I'd take sub-par graphics for a basketball game that doesn't feel like you're playing on ice skates.

T-Time: The LeBron Backlash Tees
WHY YOU NEED IT: LeBron is no longer a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Sad, especially for us Clevelanders. The manner in which he made his decision, however, and the destination that he chose have raised the ire of the NBA community. Naturally, this anger has extended into apparel, because everyone needs something to wear next year when Traitor James and the Heat come to town...
