Rhett Bomar’s Big Chance
With Jim Sorgi’s shoulder injury reportedly only sidelining the backup QB for 2-3 weeks, the biggest thing to come from Lance Laury’s hard sack of Sorgi might be the opportunity that it presents for third-string QB Rhett Bomar. With Sorgi and Manning out of Saturday’s action against the Steelers, Bomar figures to get as much as three quarters of work and, of course...

Do The New York Giants Need Another Backup QB?
With franchise QB Eli Manning at the helm, family backup Jim Sorgi was brought in as a Plan-B. If that makes Rhett Bomar Plan-C, who’s Plan-D?
There were questions about the health and strength of Sorgi’s arm when he was signed and through mini-camp, but Peyton’s former clipboard holder seemed to be rounding into shape. A solid, two-touchdown preseason performance...

Chase Blackburn Not Injured THAT Seriously
We can talk ourselves blue in the face about individual and team game performances from Monday night’s preseason opener against the Jets, but the Giants clearly had a successful night when it comes to the only thing that matters in the preseason: injuries.
Coming out of the game, the Giants have to feel good that none of their players needed to be carted off the field. In fact...

Giants Thoughts 8/17
The New York Giants took it to their cross-town rivals the Jets last night in their first game at the new Meadowlands stadium last night 31-16. Giants101’s Hazem Kiswani posted a in depth game analysis last night which can be found below, but I wanted to offer a few other thoughts on the GMen following their first on field action of 2010.
First let me set the scene for you...

Preseason Game 1: Giants vs. Jets – Game Analysis
The Giants walked out with a win in the first game in the New Meadowlands Stadium, beating the crosstown rival New York Jets 31 – 16. The Giants played their starters into the start of the second quarter, while the Jets played their first unit into halftime. The “battle for the bragging rights” in New York went to Big Blue, but head coach Tom Coughlin and his staff...

The New Meadowlands Stadium is ready for its first live football action on Monday night, the first preseason game for each of its tenants – the Giants and Jets. Fans all around the tri-state area are buzzing about the preseason opener, which has drawn some trash talk from both New York teams this past week.

Kiswani 2010 NFL Preseason Power Rankings
Around the office, in bars, and all around the country, NFL fans are debating about which teams will be the powerhouses of the 2010 NFL season, which teams will surprise, and which teams will disappoint. Meanwhile, at training camps all over the country, NFL coaches and players of all 32 teams are giving out reasons to expect improvement over last season, or in the case of the Super...

Perry Fewell Unveiling Innovative New Defensive Fronts
New Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has brought a lot of fresh energy to the Giants defense this off season, as our own Simon GC documented in the previous post, which is something the team clearly lacked under Bill Sheridan last season. However, he has also brought some innovative formations Giants fans are likely to see early and often in 2010, which should help get the...

Is Perry Fewell Auditioning For Something Bigger?
From practice reports, to player interviews, to G101’s own Dan Benton’s observations from some of the early training camp practices, the New York Giants defense looks primed for big things. With a talented, deep, and athletic roster, enthusiastic first-year coordinator Perry Fewell’s attitude has had a clear effect on the guys on his side of the ball, and the fans...

New Leadership Brewing in Giants Camp
As HBO rolls its first episode of Hard Knocks, showing this year’s New York Jets, one of the biggest attributes of this Jets team is the vast amount of leadership beaming from all squads on both sides of the ball. From Bart Scot, to Mark Sanchez, to Tony Richardson, to Jason Taylor…the one area this team is not shy on is leadership.
Switch to the other New (Jersey) York...

Giants Wednesday Morning Practice–Live Updates!
A fine Wednesday morning for football. The Giants are in Albany for another hot day of practice, with temperatures sitting around (a humid) 73-degrees.
According to a Vacchiano tweet, today is the last day of two-a-days with Monday’s preseason opener quickly drawing near.

A Giant Leap in NFL Technology?
A news article snuck its way onto my screen this morning that I thought should be brought to everyone’s attention. While it’s not directly-tied to the New York Giants, it brings-up a hugely important issue as it relates to the NFL overall. So to take a step-back from the craziness of training camp, I present to you the following thought (courtesy of Reuters):
What if...

New York Giants Pre Preseason Roster Prediction
Here we go again, folks. It’s that time of year. A few things have changed since the last roster prediction. Injuries, recoveries and performances have shifted the balance of certain units, and therefore the roster overall. My Prediction:
QB- Eli Manning, Jim Sorgi
The Giants have carried two QB’s the last couple of years, and Rhett Bomar will really have to impress in...

Are Jason Pierre-Paul and Linval Joseph Ready To Go?
When the Giants drafted two freakishly athletic but admittedly raw defensive linemen in the first round, GM Jerry Reese tried to soothe a confused fan base (”another DE?!”) by explaining that the value in both picks were long draws. Sure, they might not jump right onto the field in 2010 and blow everybody away; but with a little patience and coaching the Giants thought...

Giants 101 Fantasy Football League — the Owners
Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to announce the group of six that have been selected to participate in the first ever Giants 101 Fantasy Football League.
First, let me be clear that we are operating on a 12-team league scenario and will be doing a weeknight draft. This is to insure the most people are participating and that we are all able to actively engage in the draft. Each member...

Photos from New York Giants Training Camp
As you read earlier today, I was live and in person at training camp sitting amongst the fans (no, I didn’t see Krow this time). I managed to snap off a handful of pictures in between texts to Simon and figured I’d share them with you.
Before I do however, Justin Tuck’s post-practice attitude and fan appreciation is worth noting.

Giants Training Camp Thoughts 8/6
So we the Giants have been in Albany since last Sunday and some players have already stood out at training camp. Here are some of my observations and thoughts based on reports coming out of Albany this week:
First, and most importantly, the injury to second year receiver Hakeem Nicks’ right knee was not serious. Giants fans worldwide held their breath, but after being examined...

Just How Important is Hakeem Nicks Going To Be?
Another Hakeem Nicks headline? After Tuesday’s injury scare, I’m sure we’d all love to just not think about Hakeem The Dream for a couple days while he rests up safely on the sideline. But now that we are breathing and sleeping again on the heels of the good news that his knee is “A-OK,” it got me thinking about just how damn important Nicks appears...

Hakeem Nicks’ Injury NOT Considered Serious
Short and Sweet: The Hakeem Nicks injury is nothing to worry about.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of the NY Daily News, the Giants are saying that Nicks is “A-OK” after two separate MRI’s and an exam by team doctors.
Vachhiano chimes in that doctors saw “nothing out of the ordinary.”
We’ll all sleep better tonight. Now, back to your normal training...

Giants Interested in Re-Signing Plaxico Burress? Nicks “Fine”
According to Yahoo.com via the New York Post the New York Giants are interested in re-signing Plaxico Burress, who should be released from prison on good behavior within two to three weeks. As we all know, Burress has been in prison stemming from bringing a gun into a New York City night club on November 28, 2008 and shooting himself in the leg.
Once he is released from jail, Burress...
