Rolle To Be Tried At Corner
Ever since Terrell Thomas went down, speculation has been rampant about whether former corner, and current safety, Antrel Rolle would be tried at his old position. Well, we have an answer. According to Rolle, the current plan is to make him the nickel corner back.
“I don’t know what to expect for the rest of the season, but as for right now that’s the plan, to have...

Jets Giants Moved To Monday Night
This game just does not want to be played. After originally being moved from Saturday night to Saturday afternoon, the game will now be played Monday night at 7. Hurricane Irene is screwing everyone up

Jets Giants Moved to 2PM Saturday
With Hurricane Irene coming to rock us like, well, a hurricane, the Saturday night tilt between the Jets and Giants had to be pushed up. Instead of 7, the battle of New York will commence at 2. Although, let’s hope there is a New York. If Irene is Category 4 and hits NYC directly, the damage will cost upwards of $200 billion. Yikes. Hoping everyone stays safe…

Dissecting the losses; who steps up?
As your all aware, the Giants lost CB’s Terrell Thomas, Brian Witherspoon and DT Marvin Austin all to season ending injuries. Let’s take a closer look into each loss and see who has to step up to mitigate some of the damage.
The Loss:
CB Terrell Thomas: He’s clearly the biggest loss of the bunch. Thomas was arguably the Giants #1 corner, and was ready to have a pro-bowl season...

Giants Sign Brian Williams
The Giants have signed a cornerback, and it is Brian Williams. Williams, last of the Falcons, beat out fellow veterans Dre Bly and Lito Sheppard for a spot on the Giants. Williams, a nine year veteran, has started 99 games. He brings plenty of experience to a relatively young secondary, and a depleted secondary. Last season, as a backup for Atlanta, the 5-11, 32 year old Williams had 36 tackles.

Update on CB’s
Just an update on a post Jeremy wrote earlier. Besides Lito Sheppard and Brian Williams working out for the Giants, the Giants also worked out former Detroit Lion CB Dre’ Bly. No word on whether Bly or the other CB’s who were worked out have signed.

Giants Work Out Lito Sheppard, Others
In their quest to find a healthy corner, the Giants brought in 4 healthy bodies today to workout. Only two of the names are known, with the biggest being former Eagle Lito Sheppard. Brian Williams, formerly of the Falcons, was also in. No word, yet, if the Giants signed anyone.

Time for Aaron Ross to Step Up
With Terrell Thomas out for the year, Aaron Ross becomes your number 2 corner. For many Giants fans, this causes distress. The former first round pick has battled injuries and inconsistency in his career. He’s flashed some good plays, and made some awful ones.
In this preseason alone, he’s covered Roy Williams like a glove, but missed tackles like crazy against Carolina...

Austin Tears Pectoral, Out For Season
This is getting ridiculous. Second round pick Marvin Austin has torn his pectoral muscle, will require surgery, and will be out for the season. The Giants lost 3 players for the season from one game. Just crazy. Austin probably wasn’t going to contribute much this year, but this will be 2nd straight year without football. That’s hard to make up, especially at a young age.

Witherspoon Out For Year With Torn ACL
And the news keeps on getting worse. While the entire East Coast felt the effects of an earthquake, an earthquake was dropped on the Giants. After losing Terrell Thomas for the year to a torn ACL, the Giants found out that potential third corner, Brian Witherspoon, will also miss the year with a torn ACL. Witherspoon, who was having a terrific camp and preseason, was slated to be...

Thoughts and Musings
Well that sucked. It was actually a very good win, but one that was overshadowed by injuries.
-I feel awful for Terrell Thomas. Torn ACL. Done for year. Tough break for a good player and good guy. Freak thing to. Bumped knees with JPP, landed wrong. Thomas brought a lot to this defense. For one, he was the leading tackler. He’s a physical corner who can blitz. He had 10 picks...

Giants Beat Up On Bears, But Lose Thomas For Season
The Giants looked much sharper in their 41-13 victory over the Bears, but the win wasn’t enough to make people feel better about losing corner Terrell Thomas for the year with a torn ACL. The Thomas injury is a blow to a position that had little depth to begin with.
The Giants started off the scoring with a 25 yard field goal by Rhys Lloyd, which was quickly matched by a 23...

And now for the awful news. ESPN is reporting that Terrell Thomas has a torn ACL. Things just got bad, folks.

Halftime Thoughts
That’s definitely a much better start than last week. Defense looked sharper, offense looked better. Giants go into the half leading 20-6.
The offense has been up and down, but the running game has been sharp. Jacobs had a touchdown and looked really good. Jacobs looked in midseason form, which is good to see. Bradshaw has done a good job of fighting for extra yardage. ...

Giants To Sign Jimmy Kennedy
The Giants will sign defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy, according to reports. When the deal becomes official is unclear. Kennedy, 31, last played with the Vikings. The former number 12 overall pick in 2003 out of Penn State. He has 8.5 career sacks. Kennedy will provide depth at the defensive tackle position.

Osi To Undergo Knee Surgery; Out 3-4 Weeks
I guess his knee was really a problem. Osi Umenyiora will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, according to reports. He will miss 3-4 weeks.
The timing means that he won’t miss much regular season time, perhaps 1 or 2 games. Jason Pierre-Paul will return as the starter.
I think this decision is the right one. Get the knee healthy, and come back strong and ready to contribute.

Source: Osi Umenyiora Sidelined 3-4 Weeks
11.5 Sacks Last Season
Good thing the Giants drafted Jason Pierre-Paul last year.
Giants sack artist Osi Umenyiora underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee this morning according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger.
The pass-rushing menace is likely to be out 3-4 weeks. Coach Tom Coughlin said, ”Hopefully it’ll take less time than the other range, the other extent....

The 2nd Quarterback
I’ve always felt that being the 2nd quarterback is both the best and worst job. Best because you get to roam the sidelines of a NFL team and not really worry about much and get paid well. Worst, because if QB1 gets injured, it’s your show. It’s both the most important and most inconsequential position on a football team. You may never play, but if you do (and not...

Is Eli In The Same Class As Tom Brady?
Eli Manning doesn’t lack for hubris, that’s for sure. When asked if he was in the same class as Tom Brady, here’s what Eli had to say:
“I consider myself in that class,” Manning said. “Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he’s a great player and what you’ve seen with him is he’s gotten better every year. He started off winning championships...

Giants, Boss agreed to verbal deal; Smith offered long-term deal last year
The Giants and now Oakland Raiders TE Kevin Boss had agreed to a verbal deal before Boss “hit the lottery,” this according to Giants owner John Mara. Mara, who was on ESPN Radio, said the Giants and Boss had agreed to a deal, but Boss struck it large and decided to take the money.

Mara also said that the Giants offered WR Steve Smith a long-term deal...

Giants sign K Rhys Lloyd, Waived/Injured CB Woddny Turenne
The Giants have signed kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd. Lloyd will likely be a replacement kicker for a week or two, until K Lawrence Tynes can make it back from a quad injury. As a corresponding roster move, the Giants waived/injured CB Woddny Turenne. If you recall, the Giants tried to sign Lloyd in 2010, but lost out, as he signed with the Vikings. Lloyd has been in the league since...

Giants Try Out Shayne Graham: No Word On If He Signed
The Giants hosted kicker, and former Giant, Shayne Graham for a tryout today. The 33 year old Graham spent one game in Blue last season as an emergency replacement for Tynes. Tynes, who injured his thigh in the game against Carolina, has not been able to kick the past few days, leaving placekicking duties to Matt Dodge and Steve Weatherford. Graham was let go by the Redskins this...

The Punter
Before you laugh, yes there is a battle for the punter. I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Jeremy, how in the world is Matt Dodge going to keep his job?” And I would say to that you’re probably right. Matt Dodge has a slim chance of keeping his job. But we here at the Gab don’t like to jump to conclusions. We like smart, honest debate...
