Shot charts from Friday's game UND vs USNDT U18

One of the topics that popped up on last night’s game discussion was the shot total. While UND was outshot 2-1 by the USNDT 38-19 at no time did I think that UND was in danger of being beat nor did I think that they were being out played a lot of the shots were from the perimeter. UND did get into penalty trouble and was penalized eight times and gave up three power play goals...

Game time UND vs USDT U-18

This is what caught my attention from the video... “None of the conditioning that we do – do we do it at 80 or 90 percent speed, coach Hakstol said. We do what we can do at 100 percent 100 percent speed.” As it says in the basement at the Ralph - "Speed Kills" and this years UND Hockey team is built for speed. Rowney and Parks out, MacWilliam in; Grimaldi...

College Hockey to fill the void left by the NHL

s/t Fargo Sioux from Sioux Sports.  The NHLPA and the NHL owners have not scheduled any more negotiations and there appears to have been little progress made during the recent CBA talks this past week. As each week goes by, I get the feeling that NHL hockey fans are in for a long winter with no hockey.  No NHL Hockey – no worries – hockey fans have some...

Gone Duck Hunting

Donn aka Sioux7 and I are taking a much needed break before the college hockey season takes center stage. This week we will leave after the UND and Manitoba game to hunt some green head mallards and decompress. Personally, I think that’s a code word for slacking off and do absolutely nothing. Hopefully there isn’t a blizzard while we are up north and let’s hope that...

Seal of the University of North Dakota (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Grand Forks, ND – During the off-season, there have been a few well documented distractions for the UND hockey team but tonight, that focus finally changed to playing hockey. Tonight, it was all about playing hockey as UND took on a very determined and pesky CIS team the University of Manitoba Bison...

Is there an end to the lockout in sight?

Yesterday, I was at home reading through twitter and this story piqued my attention and it got me thinking is one side starting to cave? Take it even further – are both side finally softening and coming to the realization that they can’t get an agreement if there isn’t any negotiating? The Canadian Press --- The NHL and NHL Players’ Association quietly resumed contract...

UND Women’s Hockey the day after

From Sioux Sports this morning on the UND Women’s Hockey team losing a two goal lead and the game against the MSUM Mavericks… @pucknut9 on last night’s loss, “looks like the women have been reading too many headlines as they lose 3-2 to MSU.” Mea Culpa.   Also, another good point from @pucknut9 “hell of a comeback for sure, I mean give credit where credit is due...

College Hockey takes center stage

Originally posted at the Hockey Writers - Combine Obviously, the NHL Lockout has been a major buzz kill for NHL hockey fans so far this fall and there doesn’t seem to be a solution coming anytime soon – nor does either side seem like they have any incentive to reach a deal. For most, the NHL has become the no hockey league where both sides don’t appear to be doing...

DU suspends two players

Low and behold this morning we find out that a little karma has finally swung the other direction. I was under the impression that only certain teams and programs have issues and players that get suspended – it appears that another WCHA program has suspended two players for a total of eight games. Funny, in checking my favorite DU fan blog there is nary a word of these suspensions...
