This Ole Fart Thinks: End of Season
Now that the 2011 season is in the books, where do we stand, and where do we go from here?
Let’s start with this undeniable fact. We still do not nearly have enough talent to compete successfully within our own Division. And at that, we are in one of the weakest Divisions in the NFL. The Giants won the division with 9 wins. Any thoughts of the NFC Beast are simply not...

Akh’s Thoughts Post Mortem 2011
It was another dark and stormy season…..
The Post mortem:
Autopsy:
Primary cause of death: This one is pretty obvious: this season was over when a Shanahan decided that Rex Grossman and John Beck, in some sort of combination, would have at least a decent chance to provide some decent QB play. While the passing yards was decent, the 30 turnovers, 42 sacks and 108 QB hits between...

Redskins Fall To Vikings 33-26
The Redskins lost their 10th game this season against the Minnesota Vikings 33-26. The game was tied at 10-10 at the half but the teams traded scores in the busy 2nd half. The Redskins tried to tie the game up late in the 4th quarter but came up short. The Redskins faced both of the Vikings QB’s in Ponder and Webb. Ponder didn’t look too bad for a young QB (hint...

View From Across The Pond
It seems the need for us as a battered fanbase to cling onto anything remotely positive has some both in the media and within the fanbase raising expectations beyond the sensible. As good as it was to beat the awful Giants this week it seems like people are getting carried away big time as a result. The shoulda, woulda, couldas are now voicing there opinions with increasing confidence...

This Ole Fart Thinks: Redskins vs Giants
No Akh this next couple of weeks ?? No problem ! The Old Man steps up his game with an early column
Can you say 7-9? Yup, that is exactly what I see coming down the pike for us. What a strange season that would make it. 3-1 start, 3-1 finish. Major cycling the bowl the remainder of the year. The plain truth, however, is that we played a lot of tough close games and...

Redskins vs Giants - End of Game
The Redskins made a 25 yard field goal to start of the 4th quarter making the score 23-3. As expected the Giants played with a little more urgency by going to a no huddle offense. The Giants moved the ball successfully and got into the redzone, but Manning was intercepted in the endzone by Josh Wilson.
The Redskins did nothing with the turnover and gave the ball back to the Giants...

Redskins vs Giants - 3rd Quarter
The 3rd quarter starts with the Giants getting the ball and it probably looked like they would ride the momentum they ended with in the 2nd quarter. CB De’Angelo Hall put a stop to that by intercepting Eli Manning and returning it twenty six yards. The Redskins could only manage a 44 yard field goal which put them up 20-3.
The Giants responded with a good drive but the...

Redskins vs Giants - 2nd Quarter
End of the first half. Redskins 17, Giants 3
The Redskins completed the last drive they started in the 1st quarter by scoring a touchdown when Grossman found Moss in the endzone. That made the score 10-0 Redskins. The Redskins then created a turnover when Manning’s pass was deflected by London Fletcher and picked off by Atgowe who made a great play on the ball. The...

Redskins vs Giants - 1st Quarter
The first quarter comes to an end with the Redskins leading 3-0 but currently driving in Giants territory. The Redskins came out throwing the ball early in the 1st quarter and they were burned by it. Rex Grossman threw not one but two interceptions. The second INT was just a really bad/dumb read on Grossman’s part throwing deep into double coverage. He had Moss open...

This Ole Fart Thinks: Redskins vs Patriots
Man, this gets harder and harder every week. What else is there left to say ? In fact, almost all the discussion going on now has to do with Offseason and Next Year topics. The only issues remaining for this year is how many more games we will win, how it impacts our draft position, and how the young players perform.
I think we are thoroughly in transition regarding the Offensive...

Akh’s Thoughts Week 14
1-Another week, another game that the skins found the way to lose. I really shouldn’t complain, but at some point the skins, while reviving a crappy roster, really need to find some players who know how to win. Right now, there’s very few players that are leading this team(heaven forbid that the coaches show any leadership), Fletcher maybe..but that’s about it. And that...

This Ole Fart Thinks: Redskins vs Jets
So, as I am driving late last night through Central Rural Washington on the way to my weekend job, I am asking myself, what else can I write that I haven’t already said a dozen times about this this team? Well, there is something clarifying about highway driving late at night for me. I find it a good time to collect my thoughts.
Simply put, this is not an unlucky team;...

Akh’s Thoughts: Week 13
1-While the skins did fight for most of this loss against the Jets, they simply weren’t good enough to survive a generally mediocre game turned in by most of the players. Grossman, to his credit, held of from his usual turnovers for most of the game, but didn’t you just know that bad rex would show up at the most inopportune time? The defense held the jets generally in check...

This Ole Fart Thinks: Redskins vs Seahawks
So is the glass half full or is it half empty ?
I guess it comes down to whether you think the Redskins are harming their chances of getting into the top 5 to draft a QB, or whether the greater good comes from the team integrating the younger players and developing winning habits. Count me in the latter group for certain. Much has been written about where you find QB’s...

Redskins Find a Win, Beat Seahawks 23-17
It’s been a long time but the Washington Redskins found a win today against the Seattle Seahawks 23-17. The Redskins did try to give this game away with two turnovers from Grossman and host of really dumb penalties. However, they found a way to win it in the end.
Helu put in a good performance today. He had 108 yards on the ground and 54 through the air. Maybe Shanahan...

Akh’s Thoughts: Week 10
1-Another week, another embarrassment for the skins. Both sides of the team failed against the Dolphins, but the switch to Grossman(literally at the last minute) just reinforced that neither Beck or Grossman is the answer. On top of this, the offense failed to move the ball and abandoned the run far too early which forced the team to rely on the talents of the Sex Dragon. Miami is...

This Ole Fart Thinks: Skins vs 49ers
So, have we finally hit bottom? This week I think we have and are starting the climb upward. Now, this might not translate into more wins this year, and I could see us losing every game and still feel we have turned the corner. I think we have because, despite lip service otherwise, we are finally in full re-building mode. For the better part of the past 2 years, Shanahan has...

Akh’s Thoughts: Week 9
1-This was another awful loss for the skins, one where every facet of the team failed, including discipline, and they got smacked down by a quality team(albeit one with flaws). Coaches get fired for losses like this, and this is the 4th one in a row for the skins-only they didn’t have the Trent Williams injury to blame for this one(actually, it might have been better if he was...

Akh’s Thoughts: Week 8
1-Simply put: this was one of the most embarrassing losses for this franchise in years. The Bills are a decent team, but not a great team, and they manhandled the skins in just about every phase of the game. I realize that the skins were missing some important pieces due to injury(and others weren’t at 100%), but where’s the heart on this team? Where’s the pride? Where’s...

Akh’s Thoughts: Week 7
1-The Skins were faced with another must win game for the 2nd week in a row, and responded with folding like a lawn chair yet again. They were more competitive in the first half, but Carolina-who coming into the game was considered among the worst teams in the NFL-made great halftime adjustments and were able to dominate the 2nd half. There’s a lot to critique from the game, but...

This Ole Fart Thinks: Redskins vs Eagles
I had two columns written in my head before today. Fortunately the one flaming Shanahan for staying with Rex doesnt have to see the light of day.
So where are we now?
I firmly believe that absent injury or total flame-out we will see Beck for the remainder of this season.. Although Rex would like another chance, I think he has amply shown what he is capable of– both good and...

Akh’s Thoughts: Week 6
1-So what were the Skins doing on their bye week? The Eagles were a desperate team coming off a bad loss, and they appear to have spent just a single week plugging the holes in their ship. The skins had 2 weeks of, and they appear to have spent the time off on some 10 day long bender reading every pundit slobbering over their start. Instead, the skins came out and thoroughly crapped...
