LATEST STORIES FROM HARD FOR THE YARD
The Atlantic Monthly needs to check itself before it wrecks itself, because my man Forrest Griffin is bad for your health
Maybe when The Atlantic Monthly covers Mixed Martial Arts, it should do so with a writer who isn't best known for a collection of essays titled, Only Love Can Break Your Heart. In a December 2008 profile posted online, the normally smart periodical features former UFC champion, Rampage Jackson. In the story's opening paragraph, David Samuels writes: "Now, in attempting to defend his...

Genghis Con: Frank Shamrock & Kenny Florian
Normally I don't have the attention span for anything longer than 60 seconds. Internet videos are certainly no different, but this Genghis Con production is an exception. Clocking in at 20 minutes, it features the music of David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd along with the razor-sharp elbows of Kenny Florian and the showmanship of MMA legend Frank Shamrock. Excellent work.
Thanks...

Can you guess who this is?
Time's up, sucka. It's "E" from Entourage. Also known as Kevin Connolly. Also known as everyone's least favorite character on the show, except for maybe Vince. Also known as the guy who despite all of his shortcomings and literal shortness, we would all trade places with in a heartbeat. Congratulations, E. You've moved on to sleeping with supermodels. The rest of us still eat milk...

Villanova vs. Texas: The Jay Wright Machine!
It's starting to feel like college basketball season, yo. My favorite teams are Villanova, North Carolina, Syracuse and whichever team is playing Duke. Tonight Villanova and the Jay Wright Machine has its first big game, against Texas at Madison Square Garden. I'm confident that my alma mater is going to take care of business against the Longhorns.
There are rumors floating...

Charlie's incompetence rewarded with Hawaiian vacation
Guess what's more important than the integrity of competition in college football?
Ratings!
An underserving Notre Dame heads to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu to take on Hawaii in the Who-Gives-An-F-What-It's-Called Bowl.
Charlie Weis, please do not visit the beach. Definitely do not take your shirt off.

Jets' Shaun Ellis arrested for weed
Today it was reported that the longest-tenured member of the New York Jets was arrested and charged with "possession of marijuana, speeding and driving without insurance after being pulled over by police last weekend," only a few miles from the team's facilities.
It will be interesting to see if the Commish gets involved and suspends Ellis. Getting caught with drugs usually results...

WEC 37: Miguel Torres easily beats Manny Tapia
Been there, done that.
Miguel Torres defeated contender Manny Tapia, who until tonight was undefeated. Torres retains the bantamweight WEC title. Straight down the pipe with the right hand in the second round.
In the first round Torres tried some crazy axe-kick, which basically is a front flip designed with one thing in mind: the back of the heel coming down on your head, face or...

Frank Shamrock: MMA word association
You've probably already seen the choke-out video.
In this video, I give Frank 40 words in rapid-fire format. He says the first thing that comes to mind. I was a bit surprised about his answer for Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, the guy who got arrested for felony reckless driving after his hit-and-run ended with a high-speed police chase.
I have no idea what he's talking about when...

What the hell is going on with Paulo Filho?!!
Last night was the long-awaited rematch between Paulo Filho and Chael Sonnen, Unfortunately Filho didn't really look like he wanted to be there, despite the fact that he was the undefeated WEC Middleweight Champion. It was disrespectful to himself, his opponent, the sport and its fans.

The emergence of Jake Rosholt
Last night Jake Rosholt made his WEC debut against Nissen Osterneck, winning via strikes in the second round when the referee stopped the fight because Osterneck couldn't improve his position or defend himself.
Rosholt pushed the pace frenetically with his non-stop motor. Frank Mir wondered aloud whether Rosholt would be the second coming of Urijah Faber, heavier but with...
