The Falconer from Do The Thrashers Have Large Talons?. Requested I do a little summary on the goaltenders from the Southeast division. I figured I would post it here for all to see.

Auld takes pay cut to try and prove that he is #1

Auld has signed where I expected him to sign: Phoenix. He signed for $600,000, a significant pay cut from last season. Phoenix had huge goaltending problems last season and the only remnant left from last season is Tellqvist. They now have one legitimate career backup [Tellqvist ]...

West vs. East (This season)
30 Wins
24 Losses
4 OTW or SOW
2 OTL or SOL
Winning percentage = 30/54 = 56%
185 GF
163 GA
Pythagorean percentage = 1852/(1852+1632) = 56%
What's interesting is that it has stayed so consistent over the last few years.

I haven't said much (if anything) about Lupul, I was curious whether he would rebound or disappear. Also, I didn't know much about Lupul so it was best I kept my mouth shut. I didn't even realize that Lupul was in fact draft 7th overall.
I decided to create a short list...
Josh Green didn't even say good bye.

It's interesting, not a single article in any media about Josh Green's decision to sign in Austria. However, according to Cory Brolund from the "2007 NHL Free Agents" site, Green has signed in Salzburg, AUS. I never understood why the Vancouver Canucks didn't...

In regards to James Mirtle's blocked shots post I have a list of player's blocked shots with their ice times.
I have also completed a regression of blocked shots vs. ice time
Forwards: 1.2 * EV hours + 7.0 * PK hours = blocked shots
Defense: 3.8 * EV hours + 11.5 * PK hours...

.table1 {font-family: Verdana; font-size:10} Below is a table that shows the odds that a given team will be in a certain position in the NHL. The chart is built using all the point rules (tie breakers) and also with the divisional champion rules (as you can see by the funny gap at...
Ovechkin Deal

There's been a lot of talk about the deal. I'd like to highlight one major point $124M/13 seasons is equivalent to $7.3M/season (in todays dollars) not $9.5M/season, due to escalating costs of salaries (assuming 4% growth). That $7.3M figure is the one the GM of Washington...

Klemm and Smith have signed in the last few days, but there is no news relating to these two players. No trackers have the information including the Free Agency Tracker.
Klemm signed in Los Angeles for $500k and Wyatt Smith signed with the Avalanche for $500k as well.

NHL Changes Data Format

Along with the Jersey changes it appears the NHL wanted to make their reporting of games a little more "user friendly". Hopefully they've managed to make sure all the files are the same, although I suspect they'll still have the French versions.

Mirtle Poll Standings.

James Mirtle posted a nice poll, which asked people to pick the teams that are expected to make the playoffs. I simply created a nice graphic for the predicted standings based on this poll. This graphic was made when there was 330 votes.
What would you do if you were Lowe?

A lot of criticism has flowed since Lowe signed Penner last week. To the surprise of no one, Burke conceded that the contract Lowe signed was a complete ripoff and not worth matching. The real question though was Lowe being stupid based on his current predicament?

Kristian Huselius is Greg Loughanis, The NHL is the Angry Ukranian Judge

The NHL is not doing enough to crack down on diving. The majority of diving calls are actually reversed by the league office. Great vote of confidence to see the NHL de-legitimizing its own officials, and allowing scoring to be even more inflated.
It's sad to see the NHL devolving...
